Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 17/06/2016 16:26

AQA Physics here. Paper 2 was hard but paper 3 was ok.

Exact words from DD too.

She finds physics the most difficult of the sciences - she likes the formulas and calculations bits because she's quite "Mathsy" but she really struggles to get her head around some of the theories and rules.
The papers were both better than she expected.

She's feeling a little bit sad that she had to come home to continue revision when most of her friends finished today and were going into town to celebrate.

Nearly there now though - Further maths on Monday, History and Graphics on Tuesday then another Further Maths on Friday then that's it!

7 more sleeps!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/06/2016 16:49

That's it! No more GCSEs ever! (So long as he passes English Grin )

Until 2018 when it's DS3's turn, poor Guinea pig boy for the 9-1 GCSEs.

See you all on results day...

"She finds physics the most difficult of the sciences - she likes the formulas and calculations bits because she's quite "Mathsy" but she really struggles to get her head around some of the theories and rules."

That is exactly what DD says. She says that physics is too theoretical and doesn't explain the how and the why the way biology does or geography (which is probably why she is hoping to take them at A level).

She has learned physics by memorising what she needs to know without really understanding it. It doesn't help that she didn't have a very good physics teacher. Her class was quite disruptive and the teacher couldn't control the class so there wasn't much learning going on.

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/06/2016 18:02

EllenJanethickerknickers I'll see you back here in 2018, when DS2 does his GCSEs. He has additional needs, and I may need extra wine.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/06/2016 18:12

I'll be here with Wine , TheSecond. DS3 is merely quirky, it's GCSE boy who has an EHCP! Grin

derektheladyhamster · 17/06/2016 18:18

igcse edexcel physics was fine, he doesn't want to take it to A level so no pressure. Just further maths next week which he is still really cross about having to take!
Not long to go....

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 17/06/2016 19:48

Hopefully I won't have to suffer GCSEs until 2025 when DS2 is in Y11 (although by then who knows if there will even be GCSEs).

DS1 will be studying for further maths next week and then his plans misty involve playing video games. I'd suggest he tries to get a job but it's not practical because he'll spend most of the summer at his dad's (in another city a couple of hours away).

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/06/2016 19:56

DS1 went around town today armed with copies of his CV and covering letters, many of which were individually addressed to specific shops. Most managers at least accepted the CV, or gave advice about how to apply online. Except Shakeaway, who didn't even let him introduce himself, let alone leave his CV, despite the poster in the window advertising vacancies. Hmm

BlueGazebo · 17/06/2016 20:07

DS had his last exam today. He only did the AQA P2 but his friends said that it was harder than P3. No more nagging to revise!

derektheladyhamster · 17/06/2016 20:07

Real problems with ds and his attitude to further maths. He is adamant he cant do them. He attempted 2 in the past paper! When we sit down with the books and work back from the answers or look in the cgp book he can do them. But he insists he hasn't learnt it (which is possible, as he's been concentrating on maths re take rather than f maths)
Exam is on Monday 😭

ExitPursuedByBear · 17/06/2016 20:28

DD was telling me tonight that she can remember being in Y7 and seeing the Y11s taking their GCSEs and thinking that maybe the world would have ended or there would be some massive disruption in world events and she would never have to take them. But hey, here she is on the other side of them and it wasn't so bad.

And breathe.

See you all on the 25th August.

TheDrsDocMartens · 17/06/2016 21:08

I'll be joining you in 2018 for GCSEs with quirky kids. Dd2 doesn't tend to do nerves but does do anxiety over new situations.

littledrummergirl · 17/06/2016 21:27

Finished here now as well! Hooray. Ds1 is currently at his prom, hopefully that goes better than expected. Physics was ok this morning, he said he didn't mess up so is pretty happy.

I'll be back here on Friday with Wine to celebrate everyone finishing and I'm pretty sure I'll be around for the 2018 exams. Ds2 is a whole new ball game, and ds1 will be sitting Alevels.
I will need a bigger glass of Wine or a [bottle] even.

Now the long wait begins. Keeping him from thinking he's done terribly and getting down is the next challenge.

I think I'll maybe stick around a bit longer.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/06/2016 21:28

2018 will be a levels! Shock

A reasonable amount of fm is 'just' harder gcse stuff. If they are good with algebra and functions that will take them a long way. Matrices at this level can be got through with out too much understanding if they can just mimic the methods each time.
It's not easy, but there is hope for an a/a* student.

NicknameUsed · 17/06/2016 21:32

Don't remind me about A levels OYBK

228agreenend · 17/06/2016 21:42

Anyone else got dt a week on momday?

OP posts:
EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/06/2016 21:46

DS2 will be going to college to do a level 3 BTEC. (Cross fingers) No exams thank goodness! DS1 is currently in the midst of A levels and DS2 would never cope with the workload.

I'll be here on the GCSE thread with DS3, though.

HesMyLobster · 17/06/2016 22:00

I'll be back in 2018 with dd2 too!

And we can have a reunion for A levels Smile

Final week of exams + results day to get through first though, I'm so glad you're all here Wine

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/06/2016 22:03

I might be called TheThirdOfHerName or even TheFourthOfHerName by then, especially if we get hacked again.

raspberryrippleicecream · 17/06/2016 22:31

Envy at those who finished today. DD still has 4 to go and my A level DS1 5.

DD said OCR B Biology 2 could have been worse. She's another who likes the Maths bit of Physics, but cannot understand DS1 hoping to study theoretical physics at uni in the slightest.

This my 4th year running of exam stress. Five more to go!

NicknameUsed · 17/06/2016 23:38

Does anyone's DC feel guilty at not having any more revision to do? DD says she feels she should be doing something instead of procrastinating.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/06/2016 00:11

will let you know in a week nickname Grin dd has been ordering games for her release into the wild.

ExitPursuedByBear · 18/06/2016 00:26

DD's boyfriend has DT a week on Monday. Poor thing. It seems such a long gap until then.

I have just discussed what time my slightly squiffy dd should get up tomorrow. Yes it seems strange leaving revision out of the equation.

But bloody marvellous.

swingofthings · 18/06/2016 08:11

Real problems with ds and his attitude to further maths.
DD explained that they are not supposed to go through the whole curriculum, so lots/most, they won't have cover, however, to get an A/A*, you only have to score very low.

She too freaked out at her mock test, felt she'd only responded to about 25% but got an A*.

MajesticWhine · 18/06/2016 08:20

DD finished yesterday. We ate pizza and drank prosecco cocktails. Great feeling.
