Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
littledrummergirl · 15/06/2016 21:09

Ds1 said chemistry was ok.He couldn't remember colours though (? ) and thinks he dropped 4 marks by misreading a question. Hmm
Only physics to go know. Grin

needastrongone · 15/06/2016 21:09

DS is an exam based kid. He's better at exams than coursework, he feels little pressure. DD, next year, will be more stressed and more shattered I feel sure. 'Tis funny, I have one who has an inherent belief in his own intelligence, but finds social situations awkward, and one who would chat to a room full of strangers but lacks confidence academically Smile

NicknameUsed · 15/06/2016 21:12

And DD finds social situations awkward and has little confidence in her own ability.

The 2 As and 1 A* she already has still doesn't give her confidence.

needastrongone · 15/06/2016 21:16

Oh poor kid. This exam period must have been bloody tough for her. Perhaps a fantastic set of results will help her feel confident in her own ability? I am sure she well get them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/06/2016 21:16

hesmylobster, I think so - you need to sign up for the videos at the bottom. There is a fair bit of good stuff on there.

NicknameUsed · 15/06/2016 21:21

Thank you need. I hope so. She puts a lot of pressure on herself and, although she was slow to get started on revision, she has done loads. She deserves to do well. I have been giving her the odd treat to keep her going and to incentivise her.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/06/2016 21:24

dd did 11 subjects and 1 last year. It didn't seem too much with triple science and double maths. Would have been much harder had they been disparate subjects.

Is anyone else Shock about how much there is to clear out after 5 years of schooling? I had no idea her desk could hold that much crap

EllenJanethickerknickers · 15/06/2016 21:34

Looking forward to a bonfire!

FantasyAndHope · 15/06/2016 21:36

DD doesn't mind exams she's better suited to them then coursework in coursework she waffles and isn't concise.
But she will be glad to have all this ending and thankyou to catslife

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/06/2016 00:21

DD said Physics 1 was the worst yet. Oh dear.

Five to go, and six for DS1 A levels

TheDrsDocMartens · 16/06/2016 07:01

Dd1 did 11, 3 science, maths , 2 English, 2 languages, short course RS, history and Law.
Dd2 will do 10 in same time period.
I did 9.

derektheladyhamster · 16/06/2016 07:13

Ds feels the same about further maths, they've only been doing it since January, I shall look at those videos, they'll be useful over the weekend.
Theoretically it should be an easy exam today. But of course this will depend on whether ds studied at all for it. Food tech, the only exam with coursework 60% - he got an A* in that

thesockgap · 16/06/2016 07:16

At DS's school the compulsory subjects are Maths, English Lang, English Lit, IT, one MFL and either Dual Science or all three sciences individually (this would have been a nightmare for me in my day as I was the least scientifically minded teenager alive! We had to pick at least one science so I just did Biology as the lesser of three evils).
They then had to choose either 4 more if they did all sciences, or 5 more if they did Dual.
It didn't leave him with much serious choice- so he ended up with Geography, History, Latin and Business Studies.

thesockgap · 16/06/2016 07:17

Forgot to add, at one point he was doing 14 subjects (!!!) as he was taking Computing and Ancient Greek as extra, after school subjects - sensibly he dropped Greek last year and Computing earlier this year as the workload was far too heavy for him.

ShanghaiDiva · 16/06/2016 07:47

EllenJanethickerknickers
he took iGCSE maths in year 10 and he's the youngest in his year, so not 16 yet.
He is at an international school, but we follow the British curriculum. He took some other exams early too - iGCSE German when he was 11- and has 4 iGCSEs and AS German already.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 16/06/2016 08:14

Ah, clever boy, then. Smile I was just being nosy!

BitOutOfPractice · 16/06/2016 09:01

I thought the fashion for doing a gazillions GCSEs had passed somewhat. I must admit it seems utterly pointless to me.

hewl · 16/06/2016 09:03

dds private school say no more than 10 and that unis only look at your best 8.

She's done 9 (took art last year with an A)

NicknameUsed · 16/06/2016 09:12

"I thought the fashion for doing a gazillions GCSEs had passed somewhat. I must admit it seems utterly pointless to me."

I agree. I know that universities would rather see 9 or 10 A than a gazillion GCSEs ranging from a C upwards. I understand that most of the private schools round here do fewer GCSEs, but with the expectation of more A.

ShanghaiDiva · 16/06/2016 09:52

Ds's school they take 9 - and from next year it will be 8.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/06/2016 10:00

We have a crisis! Shock Tassomai has crashed and dd has completed 97% of the physics course (in 4 days!) She wants to do that last 3% dammit.

Icouldbeknitting · 16/06/2016 10:18

It's working now, she can bash on with that other 3%.

HesMyLobster · 16/06/2016 12:22

Good Luck for Food Tech and any other exams today - a day of physics revision for DD, I expect most dcs will be doing the same?

HesMyLobster · 16/06/2016 12:28

At dd's school the majority do 9, DD has triple science and further maths as "extras" so 11. (No space in the curriculum for them - they have been completed in before/after school sessions) I don't think she could possibly have coped with any more than that.

She wishes she hadn't taken triple science as has no plans to pursue science subjects any further and it would have been 3 fewer exams to revise for.

ExitPursuedByBear · 16/06/2016 12:29

Dd not overly impressed with Food. Hoping her coursework will stand her in good stead.

Nearly done. Head down for physics.
