Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
UhtredRagnorsson · 09/06/2016 12:50

DS said maths was 'good' and he 'knew the stuff'. I'm not sure how to take that.

UhtredRagnorsson · 09/06/2016 12:51

3 exams tomorrow. 2 x biology and music

ExitPursuedByBear · 09/06/2016 12:53

DD normally hates maths but she came home with a big smile on her face saying it was a good paper and she feels it might have pulled her grade up.

Phew - no more maths EVAAAAAAAR

Head down for two Biology papers tomorrow, then only 4 more days of exams - YAY

catslife · 09/06/2016 12:59

dd definitely didn't find the Edexcel paper easy either. I think she preferred the non-calc paper. In the mocks she did much better in one than the other. I think she only needs a C for her A level choices though. There are Maths resits in November if needed.
The good news is that dd only has 2 GCSE subjects left Additional Science and DT (Product Design). OCR A Biology tomorrow.

NicknameUsed · 09/06/2016 13:02

"All will be well Knitting. And of course they can take it again. Silly school trying to scare."

You can't retake GCSEs in 6th form at DD's school. Her 6th form only does A levels. If you need to retake English or maths you have to go to the 6th form college in town

hewl · 09/06/2016 14:32

dd thought maths was really hard, she didn't get any of the questions her friends did, everyone else thought it was fine and she's had a huge meltdown about how actually all her exams have been terrible and she's just been pretending they've been ok Sad

BitOutOfPractice · 09/06/2016 14:34

DD only has two subjects left now (4 exams: 1 x History and 3 x Science)

Oh hewl - tell her my DD found it hard too Thanks

derektheladyhamster · 09/06/2016 15:12

Ds found it harder than the last one. Fingers crossed, he needs an A*.

hewl · 09/06/2016 15:32

dd still really upset
I'm now really tired and grumpy Sad

think its taking its toll on all of us

maxtrue · 09/06/2016 15:37

No more Maths ever again was our tune of the day Grin

Twas much better than the first paper which she needs as she reckons 42/100 for that one so hopeful this one brings her up to a C (she wants a B)

Announced she no longer wants to do Biology A level so thats a challenge/change/argument for another day!

So to the lovely ex couch bums further up the page I haven't officially started the c25k yet as walked my mates dog the last 3 days for well over an hour each time. Also my old sports bras are far too small so going to wear 2 bras if that will work - dont want to brag or anything but my boobs are flippen huge Grin and are so heavy so any bouncing is not only going to damage me but passers by too!!

One question on the download/app - I used the one where you can pick the voice - going for Michael Johnson as have secret crush on him - the app suggest downloading it while at home but couldn't work out how? Will head over to the exercise thread too for inspiration and advice!

Hoping every one is feeling a little happier as we creep slowly towards the light at the end of this dreadful tunnel. Biology tomorrow.....

Tulips1 · 09/06/2016 15:40

Bit late to this didn't realise it was here.

Hewl - they have been going now for nearly 4 weeks if you count the half term. The stress is going to take its toll and we always remember the questions we couldn't do rather than the ones we could.

How many more exams does your DD have? My DS has 4 to go - he is looking shattered.

maxtrue · 09/06/2016 15:40

AAaahhhh hewl - I know exactly that feeling please have a nice evening together and try not to worry too much.....

I swing from crying (in secret) to be disgustingly happy, def think this is the most stressful I have been over school for years probably for ever xx

Bloody awful

hewl · 09/06/2016 15:42

I have bought her an enormous bar of chocolate

she threw all her maths stuff out of the window

(i have secretly retrieved it and packed it away for the inevitable retake!!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2016 15:43

oh hewl, thats hard. It sounds like a bit of getting away from it might be needed this weekend? My standard response at this point is to break out icrecream all round. Its difficult with maths and english - so much pressure to pass. But she's done it now, fingers crossed she gets what she needed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2016 15:43

x-post! chocolate does well too!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2016 15:46

two biology and music tomorrow. Tried to help dd with her biology this afternoon.
Shes dreading music. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow night, but I reckon a chinese takeway might help soothe?

flatmouse · 09/06/2016 16:00

DS reported it was "positive alright". Went straight into science revision sessions then chippy for lunch. Rang in panic as wifi not working at home. As i started to trouble-shoot he complained about neighbouring house alarms going off. Well that'll be a power cut then! Not heard back whether it's fixed or not. He was supposed to be reviewing the mark scheme (online) of the practise Chemistry 1 paper he did yesterday. Oh well!

ExitPursuedByBear · 09/06/2016 16:10

DD has two Biology tomorrow then one history, 2 chemistry, one food and two physics next week.

Poor Lamb

Icouldbeknitting · 09/06/2016 16:11

Hewl that's so hard for a parent to have to listen to. Here we can go straight from "ok" to "catastrophe" with apparently nothing in between.

I thought you'd all like to know that DS thought Edexcel maths today was easier than the first paper and he thinks he's done well. I am sitting here listening to the sound of paper being shovelled into the waste bin - I suspect that's maths being recycled.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 09/06/2016 16:30

I invigilated but didn't get to look at a paper as there weren't any spare ones. Better not to know, sometimes.

DS2 says it was 'alright,' he couldn't answer one 2 mark question as he had a mental block, but as he'd finished the rest of it and checked it he left early! Hmm I'm not happy Angry but they are allowed to leave after an hour after the official start time, so what can you do? He's autistic and trying to persuade him that leaving early isn't a great idea isn't getting very far.

On a happier note, he managed to catch the public bus home on his own and got off at the right stop and walked the last 15 mins home safely!

228agreenend · 09/06/2016 16:30

Waiting for ds to get home to hear how maths and english were. Ds wants to do maths at ta-level, so hoping for a good result.

Ds is another monosyllabic person, and you can only tell whether it was actually good,or not from the tone in the voice. It's amazing how much you can deduce from a single syllable!

chocolateworshipper · 09/06/2016 16:34

I absolutely cannot wait for this stress to be over. Biology tomorrow, then General Studies, Chemistry and Physics next week. One more General Studies exam the following week, but there really isn't anything you can revise for that paper, so we really are within spitting distance of the finish line. I think this is going to be even more stressful with DD2 as there won't be any controlled assessments "in the bank" when going into the exams! Hewl - I do hope all will be well x

NorbertDentressangle · 09/06/2016 16:48

Similar for us chocolate, a science heavy week next week with physics and chemistry (and biology tomorrow) and then a single General Studies exam the following Monday.

As for todays EdExcel Maths DD said "it went really well" - she thinks she's heading for a good grade but hates Maths so has no intentions of studying it at A level.

FantasyAndHope · 09/06/2016 17:06

Biology tomorrow
Next week is a heavy week for DD history unit2 Germany, Religious studies chemistry and physics and geography paper3

ExitPursuedByBear · 09/06/2016 17:11

I do feel a little guilty having often railed against coursework etc being part of the exam process as I am now very grateful that DD has already banked some good marks in several subjects.
