Drama seems to have been another subject where past papers were relied on too heavily.
Some of the questions were completely different than expected
(they'd been taught that they would be asked a 4 mark question on props, a 10 mark question on costume, a 16 mark question on acting etc all relating to their set play) so a lot of dcs were completely thrown to have a 10 mark question about lighting and sound!
DD thinks she managed ok, but it certainly took her by surprise.
Who else had dc doing WJEC drama? I'd be interested to hear their experience and opinions.

It was my afternoon off today so I took dd out for lunch after the exam which was lovely - we don't very often have time together just us 2.

No exams tomorrow, so a full day of maths revision ready for Thursday.

navylily · 24/05/2016 17:22

DS wasn't very happy with Edexcel geography today. Some question about ocean management that he didn't think they'd learned. Cross that he spent so much time learning stuff that didn't come up.

maxtrue · 24/05/2016 18:02

DD (AQA ) Geography said she got the last case study wrong - only 8 marks! Shock

Can I please ask those that handed in course work for Geography did their dc have a chance to correct and improve on the original mark. DD's teacher ran out of time so we are annoyed she didn't get a chance to improve.
Grasping at straws as she wants to do Geography at A level and could possibly not reach a B...

eatingtomuchchocolate · 24/05/2016 18:14

My Ds did all his GCSE aqa geography coursework in school. He had additional lessons at lunchtime and after school to get it completed.

That sounds tough maxtrue DS's school definitely gave them all back coursework with "general advice"and a chance to improve. Though that's Edexcel. I'm not sure if they vary. DS got a D initially, though i think pushed it up to a B. Is your DD staying on for sixth form or going elsewhere? Might just be worth letting the sixth form know there's been particular problems with the teaching.

eatingtomuchchocolate · 24/05/2016 18:42

My Ds also happy with aqa geography A. He had lots of time at the end to check his answers and add detail that he thinks might pick up the odd extra mark. He said all his friends equally happy.

It

eatingtomuchchocolate · 24/05/2016 18:43

Posted to quick.

It's horrible if the come home not feeling great about an exam. We had this last week it was awful

BlueGazebo · 24/05/2016 18:46

DS did the WJEC drama and said exactly the same thing - they had changed the exam format and it wasn't like anything they had done previously. Just asked him about the 10 mark sound and lighting and he said he hadn't noticed it was 10 marks!

NorbertDentressangle · 24/05/2016 18:51

maxtrue - I just asked DD about the AQA geography and yes, apparently students did get given coursework back to improve it if it wasn't up to their expected grade

littledrummergirl · 24/05/2016 19:09

Ds1 was not happy with the geography exam today. He knew the 8 pointer but said he blagged his way through the 10 pointer.
He was much happier when we discussed grade boundaries. There's always the next paper.

Physics tomorrow.

NicknameUsed · 24/05/2016 19:23

DD has mixed feelings about AQA GCSE Geography A. Some of the questions were more about application rather than straight facts. Some of the girls were in tears at the end. Her best subject is geography and she was aiming for an A*, but feels that she won't get that now.

She doesn't know what she got for controlled assessment either.

228agreenend · 24/05/2016 19:45

Ds was reasonably happy with geog (aqa?). The questions were generally okay, bit one was worded differently but he thinks he answered it okay. Ds was amused that the case studies I tested him on last night didn't come up.

Noticed this evening I have a few more grey hairs,

EllenJanethickerknickers · 24/05/2016 19:50

DS2 was quite happy with his AQA Geography A foundation paper today. Mind you, every paper has been 'fine' so far! Hmm

Maths on Thursday, but DS1 has an A level maths exam tomorrow so no rest from the stress here.

HesMyLobster · 24/05/2016 20:04

Blue thankyou, very relieved it's not just dd's school. Although obviously feel for your ds too.
Hopefully grade boundaries etc will reflect the general confusion.

Dd's favourite answer.... 'Describe this picture of an avalanche' 'It's a load of snow moving really fast down a mountain!!!!!!!'
It's better than when she started quoting Stalin's 5 year plan in Biology 😆

dowhatnow · 24/05/2016 21:12

Physics and business tomorrow. She's finding it difficult to get motivated and is very grumpy. I've promised chocolate for tomorrow night.

FantasyAndHope · 24/05/2016 21:13

DD has rang in tears. Room mate is getting on her nerves DD has prep 6:30-8:00 and then continues to revise up until about 9:00 or 9:15 but her room Mate is revising right until 10:30 and DD likes to chill and said room mate isn't happy about her 'chilling' thinks DD should be working harder but DD is getting a lot of migraines and feeling ill. I've told her she's working fine and to ignore room mate

marmiteloversunite · 24/05/2016 21:23

That's tough Fantasy! Can't school find her roommate somewhere else to study ? Poor girl it's probably stressing her out. Only 3 more days till half term!!

NicknameUsed · 24/05/2016 21:24

DD is shattered and crashed out earlier when she should have been revising. I am getting rather annoyed at the school's no study leave policy as DD says she gets very little revision done at school as there are too many distractions. I will keep her off school tomorrow morning so she can catch up with some sleep and revise at home, and she can go in at lunchtime.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 24/05/2016 21:29

Talking through DD's physics revision tonight confirmed a) I need some choccy as consolation & b) I now realise why I dropped it after O Level! Rather her than me tomorrow! 🤔

FantasyAndHope · 24/05/2016 21:30

marmite
All rooms are taken due to those living in nearby villages wanting to board to prevent any accidents of not arriving at school on time for exams
To add to it she's not sleeping room mate is a sleep walker so DD isn't sleeping much she's exhausted

EllenJanethickerknickers · 24/05/2016 21:41

Is she home for half term, Fantasy?
