DS2 Drama, as opposed to a drama this morning. No news on it though. Geography this afternoon, AQA I think, sustainable decision making. Both A level choices so hopefully have gone / will go well. That will be 7 down, so just about a third of the way through.

boys3 · 24/05/2016 12:16

Lunch almost as DS2 school - on the basis that afternoon exams start at 13:15

DD's school offers IGCSE maths to the brighter students in set one as it is considered harder than GCSE and a better preparation for A level.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2016 12:43

what a worry for them mysillydog. poor kids!

DD is worried she messed up yesterday's English Lit. She didn't read the question correctly and her answer was the complete opposite of what was asked!
Can't blame the teaching for that, but she has had some issues this year. Her original teacher is off long term sick and and wasn't great when she was there ,she threw a pair of scissors at one girl. DD has had a variety of teachers for the last few months. Apparently nobody can access the class results for their speaking, controlled assessment etc.
Stress levels were not helped by DD finding a squished banana in the bottom of her school bag this morning!

NicknameUsed · 24/05/2016 12:54

It seems like a lot of schools have problems recruiting good English teachers these days. It has been a problem at DD's school. In the last few years every new (and excellent IMO) head of English has lasted less than two years.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/05/2016 13:45

I'm sorry about my 12:01 post. Wrong thread Blush

Yes, English is the one subject that's caused most grief here too. And DD has to get an A to study it at A level. I told the HoE yesterday that if DD doesn't get the A she is perfectly capable of (and has worked hard for) then I will be blaming the teaching. She didn't like that. But I've had enough of being fobbed off. They have 3 days (!!!) to redeem themselves. Today has been an excellent start

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2016 14:14

Bit late for them BOOP!

More bomb threats today reported in the news. Think there is some copycat stuff going on as there was a concentrated bunch in Scotland.

waiting for reports from Geography....

Waiting to see how geography is going too, another hour of writing, 3 hours is a very long exam! Think DD is going to be brain dead tonight, and still got to get ready for Physics tomorrow. Shock

ExitPursuedByABear · 24/05/2016 15:31

DD was happier than expected with her DT exam. And she smashed Latin apparently Grin Hmm

FantasyAndHope · 24/05/2016 15:33

Anyone else's DC's AQA IGCSE Geography?

Maladicta · 24/05/2016 15:34

Dd not very happy - says she made some silly mistakes but found the questions hard (AQA)

littledrummergirl · 24/05/2016 15:48

Ds1 did aqa geography A unit 1. I have no idea what he thought of it as he hasn't let me knowHmm

flatmouse · 24/05/2016 15:56

DS dud AQA Geog B unit1. Says he thinks he's done quite well. I hope so - in his mocks he got all his case studies muddled up!

eatingtomuchchocolate · 24/05/2016 16:03

Ds has aqa geography A. He has said the case studies were great!

needastrongone · 24/05/2016 16:08

Exit Did your DD do AQA Electronics?

Sorry about your daughter not find her exam so easy Maladicta

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/05/2016 16:16

The geog exam I saw bits of didn't seem too bad.

swingofthings · 24/05/2016 16:17

Apparently nobody can access the class results for their speaking, controlled assessment etc.
DD was told by the HoE that they wouldn't get these results until the overall results in August. DD had a meltdown on the day which is totally unlike her as she is very confident and most emotionally stable. She said she didn't feel well, under pressure (as teacher had told her that she she would cruise through this one) and her period were just about to start so when suddenly her mind went blank, she became overwhelmed with it all. The teacher was great and she was able to calm down and finish it. We hope she did ok. At least the exam went well.

She did her Eng Lit Last year and did very well on the exam (got two As, one almost A*), but she got a C on her controlled assessment resulting in being two points away from a final A. The HoE later acknowledged that the school had failed supporting her appropriately (she has always been an A start pupil) and that there had been issues with the teacher (she taught the top set class, her first year teaching and the class did significantly worse than the middle set class with another teacher). They suggested she started all over again this year as there was absolutely nothing that could be done about that CA grade, but DD decided to put it behind her and focus on the others, which I agreed with.

raspberryrippleicecream · 24/05/2016 16:18

English a problem at DDs school too! They usually have results way higher than national average but they've been messed about this year.

Exam free day today for us

ExitPursuedByADonkey · 24/05/2016 16:23

Oh I don't know. It was Design & Technology Systems & Control. Not sure of the exam board.

boys3 · 24/05/2016 16:59

v positive on the AQA GCSE Geog this afternoon. Seemingly coasts rather than rivers coming up was a "result". Very positive on AQA Drama this morning as well. So all in all a good week so far. Physics tomorrow might cast a slight shadow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2016 17:00

dd was pretty happy with both geography and systems.

NorbertDentressangle · 24/05/2016 17:05

DD had AQA Textiles this morning and said it was the best exam so far and then this afternoon it was Geography (also AQA) and thankfully, despite the panic over losing her case study notes, she said it was OK.

When she didn't text during the day and only replied with a monosyllabi reply when I asked how she was getting home I expected the worst and thought it had been a bad day!

We will be a third of our way through after tomorrows Physics exam. It seems to be going on forever.
