Nickname I have just started just taking DD out of school when she's got lessons in subjects she's finished. She was just not getting anything done so I rang the HOY and said that's what I'd be doing. She's having a lie in tomorrow.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 24/05/2016 22:10

At least your DD can get some proper sleep, Fantasy. DS is going to a music thingy at the NEC on Sunday. One day off won't hurt. Smile

EllenJanethickerknickers · 24/05/2016 22:13

That's DS1, not DS2. Getting my threads mixed up. Blush

TheSecondOfHerName · 24/05/2016 23:07

DS1 seems to be doing OK at the moment.

DD (Y7) on the other hand is overwhelmed, exhausted and in tears every other day, which is unlike her. She is trying to revise for end of year exams, has been given hours of product design homework and lost her blazer yesterday, which had her annual bus pass in it and the only key to her locker. The locker that her phone is locked in. Sad

navylily · 24/05/2016 23:23

I've a younger dd roo secondwith end of year exams, who's getting overshadowed by GCSE/Alevel exams of her siblings. She was most grumpy at my today when asked DSD how her GCSE geography went before remembering to ask about DD's French oral. It's hard on her as and feels her life and own exams are important, but the older ones keep telling her they're not and I find it it's hard not to be more focused on those with public exams as they really do matter more.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/05/2016 23:37

Agree about revision not being that productive at school. Have collected ds a couple of times and he has been revising at home.
Good luck to everyone today.
Ds has iGCSE physics this morning followed by CI and C2 AS maths this afternoon -known in our house as the day of death! No exams on Thursday though which is something to look forward to.

BlueGazebo · 25/05/2016 06:15

HesMyLobster Re WJEC Drama again.... A look of horror came over DS when I told him about the sound and lighting 10 marker. He reeled off exactly how many marks they had been taught they needed for each question and he appears to have stuck to that without reading the new mark scheme at all. This is no surprise as he has dyslexia - he even gets a prompt to refocus him in an exam. I know he also got a simple km question on his Geog paper wrong. He really wanted to do well in the Drama and wants to do it for A Level.

Maths tomorrow will be the big one. I know he CAN do it but also know he is more than capable of missing off units of measurement at the end of questions, missing decimal places, misreading graphs and taking away upside down. He cannot stay on where he is now unless he gets the C.

2gorgeousboys · 25/05/2016 06:59

Good luck to everyone today! After a no exam day yesterday, DS1 has got Science today. He seemed quite calm yesterday and I'm just off to wake him now so we shall see what this morning brings!

They finish for study leave on Friday so they are having a leavers assembly on Friday and then there is a party at someone's house Friday afternoon/evening. I think he's ready for a little bit of down time.

NicknameUsed · 25/05/2016 07:09

A question for those of you who are taking their children out of school where they won't allow study leave - what are you telling the school?

I fabricated a doctor's appointment on Monday and was thinking of fabricating a headache this morning. Should I just say that revising at school isn't working? The problem is that they might say no, and then I can't make up any excuses.

I admit that it goes against everything I believe in because I don't agree with lying to school, but it simply isn't in DD's best interests that she goes into school tired (8.20 am start), wastes a morning trying to revise unsuccessfully and then goes into the exam more tired and stressed than she needs to be.

Nickname, I'd probably fudge it with something like, 'exhausted and headachey and I dont want to risk this turning into a migraine, given there's an exam later'.

NicknameUsed · 25/05/2016 07:29

Thank you Liney. Will do that for today anyway.

ExitPursuedByADonkey · 25/05/2016 07:31

Physics this pm then Maths and Latin tomorrow. Day off on Friday then half term. Dd is hoping to do some riding but with still loads of exams to come.

NicknameUsed · 25/05/2016 07:34

Physics today, day off tomorrow (DD already has maths), English lit poetry on Friday. DD hates poetry, as do I.

Friday marks the halfway point for DD.

ShanghaiDiva · 25/05/2016 07:42

DS's school don't seem to mind. The students are off timetable due to exams and can go to see teachers for revision help or revise in the library. Sometimes ds stays at home and this is more productive as there are fewer distractions.
I agree with Liney and fudge the issue. I am sure the school is aware of what is happening and knows which students are better off working at home, but for some students it's probably more effective for their revision if they are at school.

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 07:43

Physics today for OH's DS.

Maths AS for my DS.

We are expecting to need Wine later.

littledrummergirl · 25/05/2016 07:43

Snap exit. Ds1 needs to be in school for 1pm so I have left him in bed. Dd is on an inset day so just ds2 and I downstairs this morning, it feels a bit odd.
I'll be glad when next week arrives.
Good luck for today.

FantasyAndHope · 25/05/2016 07:48

Physics paper1 today then after than all science paper1s are done with only paper2's to do
Maths tomorrow then Friday is an inspector calls

ShanghaiDiva · 25/05/2016 07:56

Fantasty - inspector calls here on Friday too - also All my Sons.
DS will need to do some serious revision tomorrow, don't think he's looked at the texts or his notes for weeks.

FantasyAndHope · 25/05/2016 08:02

shang
DD is too bothered about it, she knows the plot and story and social messages so she's fine for it

Maladicta · 25/05/2016 08:03

AQA IGCSE French reading and writing this morning - dd not worried as it's her strongest subject.

Physics this afternoon could be a different matter! She was a bit fed up with Tassomai last weekend - it was really slow due to a server update. She missed a few planned sessions and hasn't had chance to catch up. She was at 80% so is hoping it'll be enough.

We've been ok with the younger siblings as one's away on a trip and did his yr9 exams at the end of April, the yr7 is utterly preoccupied with playing cricket and doesn't have exams until the end of June.

We're now on the treadmill - every two years two of them will have GCSEs and A-Levels....

ShanghaiDiva · 25/05/2016 08:05

This is just an FYI for anyone with children looking at taking A level in science and maths. There is a website
www.physicsandmathstutor.com/author/gorkem-cavli/
where you can select past papers and also select questions by topic and it will find all the relevant questions for you from past papers on the site and you can print them out as a pack. It is excellent for revising a specific problem area.
DS printed at pack on integration questions yesterday and each page shows the exam paper it was taken from. Then you can just look up the mark scheme on the same web site and check the answer. This part is a bit time consuming as you may need to check 7 different mark schemes for questions from 7 different years - this is normally my job!
I know that last thing we want to think about now is A levels, but thought I would mention it while still fresh in my mind.
It's a great site - and free too.

needastrongone · 25/05/2016 08:06

Mal I've got exams, in the form of GCSE, AS and A Levels consecutively for the next 4 years Smile

Business Fast Track this morning, Physics this afternoon.
