DS1's school have a prom at the end of June (in the local football stadium, which is near the school). He's refusing to even consider going. I'm not sure it'll work anyway as there are only about 5 girls in his year (and plenty on boys). I think the kids would have preferred a videogaming party to anything involving dancing.

HesMyLobster · 27/05/2016 19:39

DD was very happy with the AQA poetry paper - said the poems were exactly the ones she'd have chosen so happy girl here and a nice ending to the week.

Thesaurus 5 girls?! What percentage of the cohort is that? Seems so bizarre compared to my dd's school which has 600 in the year!

HesMyLobster · 27/05/2016 19:42

Knitting there's no leavers anything here either - no prom, no hoodie, not even an assembly. It's ok for DD and the others who are staying there for 6th form, but for those going on to other things it's a bit sad.

BlueGazebo · 27/05/2016 19:44

DS not going to prom either but he would definitely go if it was a gaming party. I am a bit disappointed that he doesn't want to go but looking back, I wouldn't have gone either - too much of a rebel.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 27/05/2016 19:44

It's about 5% of the cohort. He goes to a STEM specialist school, and girls are a bit thin on the ground.

Icouldbeknitting · 27/05/2016 19:55

Lobster I'm assuming that prom is the place for goodbyes except that DS and his group aren't going. I keep asking if they intend to organised an alternative jolly but obviously they are a bit busy at the moment. Their track record for organising themselves into a group is not good and a half term week isn't long enough to co-ordinate calendars to get them all to the cinema.

HesMyLobster · 27/05/2016 20:08

I'm still hoping DD might organise something. I've offered her a gathering here to celebrate end of exams, but she's just not really into the party thing. I should be grateful really I suppose!

228agreenend · 27/05/2016 20:14

Ds happily tidied his room this evening, mainly because he was throwing his old notes away!

YeOldeTrout · 27/05/2016 20:15

I am pleased to report that DS has taken exams seriously enough to cram for at least 1 hour each night before exams. He reckons & it's probably true that he will get Bs & As. Even managed to write 4 pages in the English Lit exam (that was his U mark in mocks). He's in some special programme for underachievers to go revise during the study leave period (1st 2 weeks of June). He's going to get very grumpy & bored during those 2 weeks, but hopefully will get excellent triple science grades by doing that (sadly no other exams in the special period).

DS has some mega-booze party lined up on prom night (late June). I am insisting either I talk to the host parents over phone beforehand or I will go in to talk to them when I drop DS off with tent & lager. His choice!! With difficulty I managed to wrestle the name of the host kid out of DS (forgotten right now... Blush).

YeOldeTrout · 27/05/2016 20:15

... oh yeah, my yr9 also doing GCSE this yr is planning a bonfire of her subject notes ASA exam period has finished.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/05/2016 20:22

As soon as he'd done his last iGCSE Chemistry paper, DS1 burnt his Chemistry exercise books while DH & I were still at work.

What went well: he did it outside on the patio.
Even better if: he had taken the vinyl covers off first.

We now have a film of melted plastic on part of the patio. Weirdly, it's blue, even though the exercise books were yellow.

boys3 · 27/05/2016 20:31

its Wine Wine Wine here this evening. AQA Engl Lit poetry seems to have gone pretty well, however I'm glad half term has arrived. A day off from revising after the past two weeks, then hopefully DS2 back to it tomorrow. Hope all the DCs have a chance to recharge batteries over the next week, before returning to the fray.

boys3 · 27/05/2016 20:32

that's Wine Wine Wine for DH and I - not DS2 just for clarity :)

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/05/2016 21:08

I'm feeling quite relieved that we've got to half term. DS1 is more than half-way through the exams and gets a week without exams before a five-exam week starts.

raspberryrippleicecream · 27/05/2016 21:35

DD is on study leave now. They have a Leavers Day in June, fancy dress, fairground ride, pizza and a farewell assembly. Sadly she will still have a Physics and a Further Maths afterwards. She isn't going to Prom, but is wearing her Leavers' Hoody

NorbertDentressangle · 27/05/2016 22:09

Second re: the changing colour of the melted vinyl book covers - this could be the basis of one of next years AQA off-the-wall chemistry questions Wink

Here's to half-term everyone - I think we all deserve a Wine

I'm enjoying a nice white Burgundy.

littledrummergirl · 27/05/2016 22:34

There is clearly something wrong in my house. Ds1 and 2 have shared a small bottle of cider whilst I am alcohol free. Confused
Ds1 is now washing up. ShockGrinGrin
I think I might crack open the wine tomorrow. It's good to have a break in the middle of exams, I think we need it.

ExitPursuedByADonkey · 27/05/2016 22:38

Go on. Spoil yourself. Hic

hewl · 27/05/2016 22:39

I feel, not for the first time, that my natural caution has rained on my dcs parade. I said to dd that I felt uncomfortable with any books being burnt and she's agreed with me and refused an invitation to a book burning party. We are both desperately worthy and probably No Fun.
