I am really sure we will get one of our six. But I just don't know which one. And I am now really worried I put them down in the wrong order. Our first choice had a stabbing incident after applications closed.

We only chose one, didn't bother UTI g other choices down and he got in, but we don't live in a city, we live on the outskirts of a small town and the secondary school headmaster was practically begging for children to go there.

Baby- first choice ex grammar school (in catchment by the skin of our teeth - think half a road away), 2-5 were grammar schools & we got 6th choice which is actually not that far (a good deal further than 1st choice) but bus routes make it awkward so will either be one bus and a long walk or 2 buses.

DS score for 11+ was very good but maybe a strong academic year? Tbh the reason we put grammars lower (I wanted them 1-4) was because DS wouldn't be able to join after school clubs as he would have to get the mini bus back.

Sounds a nightmare simpson!

I was wondering how it could be

Something to say for the comp system then!

Ladymuck · 01/03/2016 17:59

Around 5,000 in London didn't get any of their 6 choices.

Example of state school which gives scholarships:

It boils down to partial selectivity in certain aptitude categories.

We got none of our 6. I didn't expect this at all. DS is currently in a prep and even though he has an indie offer I can't except due to finances. In our 6 were catchment schools and church schools. I'm devastated and don't know where to go from here. I'm still in the office as I don't want to face DS I want to remain positive but don't know if I can.

Ladymuck · 01/03/2016 18:08

Sorry to hear that. Did you get allocated a school? Or nothing?

If it's about 5000 with no offer at all, that's about 6% of applicants.

That'll be across London, so I bet some boroughs have bigger shortfalls than others.

Ladymuck · 01/03/2016 18:12

I don't think that it is no offer - just not one of the 6 choices. I know Croydon has made allocations.

6th choice, not what we wanted but we really had nothing else to fall back on. So disappointed after 2 years of 11plus, open days and banding tests. Why did we even bother?

Sorry, got a bit ahead of myself there!

Any word on how many of the 5000 no offer at all?

Got first choice, woohoo. Lucky as faith school and we are practising, real mixed bag from DS' classmates, all have a place but not high preference ones

They're saying approx 5,000 in London did not get any of their 6 (and within that number will be those who got no offer today at all).

Number receiving first preference in London is pretty much the same (69%)

Ladymuck · 01/03/2016 18:35

The press release doesn't say - it is a bit thin on detail. Same proportion as last year (6%) not getting one of their 6 places.

RJsMa · 01/03/2016 18:42

Thanks again Tiggytape! Who do I ask about refusal criteria? the schools (as I request waiting list position) or council. All the schools we put are not council run.

I'll be emailing all schools for waiting list position tonight and follow up with a call. Is it worthwhile to sell DS in the email at all. i.e. tons of sports and drama achievements and excellent school reports. Or is it still a numbers/criteria game?

there are no siblings so it will be a distance and religious criteria fail. Also as DS was in a prep and not in any feeder schools to the church ones on our list he would have lost out there too even though church schools are relatively near and we go to church weekly and are active members.

The school given allocated is very near to us but so so poor academically so in any appeal we would loose the distance argument.

So with no siblings and distance not a factor what else could I grasp onto.

We've been at it for ever 11+, tutors, assessments, scholarship assessments I really thought it was over. Sad

congrats everyone with positive news Smile
