I am really sure we will get one of our six. But I just don't know which one. And I am now really worried I put them down in the wrong order. Our first choice had a stabbing incident after applications closed.

My neice got 2nd choice. She is 12th on the waiting list at 1st choice school, which is Catholic. They are not Catholics but older sister got straight in 2 years. Anyone with experience of waiting lists - does 12th sound hopeful - or not.....

Maggie3socks · 01/03/2016 19:02

I'm in London and still haven't had the email but the result was online - and thankfully was what we wanted.

Good luck to those of you who are appealing your place, I'm shocked by some of the posts on here about children failing to get anything at all.

1st choice here. West London totally oversubscribed academy with places offered on distance within bands. DD says she fluffed the banding test so maybe that did her a favour! Very relieved. Good luck everyone else!

IceCreamTuesday · 01/03/2016 19:16

Thanks Tiggy. It takes 165 a year. Lots of good schools, it's in a big city, however it is the only Catholic girls-only school for miles around, so I think people who apply there really want the place.

forkhandles4candles · 01/03/2016 20:34

2nd choice, in London. Think it is good. Will stay on waiting list for number 1

Mandzi34 · 01/03/2016 20:44

We got third choice. Who and how soon can we call to find out where we are on the waiting list for second choice?

SolidGoldBrass · 01/03/2016 20:45

Whew, first choice! Had been sweating a bit over it because DS didn't get through the entrance exams for the next borough (which had two nice grammars) or the independent (probably couldn't have afforded to send him though grandparents had been muttering about putting money aside for school fees since he was a toddler). I let him sit the entrance exam for the nice local high that allots 20% of places on academic ability and he obviously performed OK as he has a place - we are not that close to this school and the one closest to us is a church school and an absolute horror.

sadandblue1 · 01/03/2016 20:47

Nice problem to have.... Spare a thought for those who didn't get ANY of their choices

bibbitybobbityyhat · 01/03/2016 20:47

How very mundane (I believe the saying is).

sadandblue1 · 01/03/2016 20:51

Feeling very sad for my son who didn't get any of our realistic London choices....
Realise it's the beginning and not the end but not much consolation.
Listed 5 choices and given a local we didn't choose...v frustrating.

byroniks · 01/03/2016 20:52

Got the 3rd choice. Does that put us automatically on the waiting list for 2nd and 1st choices?

Mandzi34 · 01/03/2016 20:56

sadandblue1 - my friend had the same. It's rough.

clam · 01/03/2016 21:07

Re: St Clement Danes in Herts, would the expanded catchment have anything to do with the new school they're opening? There's been info on the school newsletters about it, but confess I didn't take a great deal of notice as dd is about to leave.

sadandblue1 · 01/03/2016 21:07

Thanks Mandzi, it really is. I hope you're friend is ok.

sunnydayinmay · 01/03/2016 21:18

Clam - I have half read the local news reports, but haven't paid much attention either! They did add an extra form (as did Ricky), and I think it had to be in accordance with the admissions rules, so local children.

The catchment was the talk of the primary playground today. Think it went to the Uxbridge Road, which is a lot further than previous years. Apparently low sibling year too.

user1456259671 · 01/03/2016 21:51

Does that put us automatically on the waiting list for 2nd and 1st choices?
I know in the Bromerly borough you are automatically put on the waiting list.

In London (Richmond) DD got 4th choice of out-of-borough girls only school. I will find out tomorrow how far we were from getting 1st choice furthest-distance offer (also girls-only), as frankly we expected to be in with a good chance. Neighbour with DS got nothing, i.e. none of 6 carefully considered school choices and no allocation i.e. the borough cannot offer any place for her son Shock

cece · 01/03/2016 23:03

Last year we were 19th on the waiting list for our first preference school. We got an offer during the second round of offers in April. Good luck.

You can never tell with waiting lists. We were 5th on offer day but then all the late applications were added. We didn't get a place until January four months after starting at the allocated school.

AmazingDisgrace · 02/03/2016 10:17

EmpressOfWorry Wow, I'm gebuinely shocked that your neighbour didn't get any placement. I thought there was at least one school that has been undersubscribed in recent years... TA?

AmazingDisgrace · 02/03/2016 10:17

I can spell....

cuckoooo · 02/03/2016 10:28

DS was actually very happy to get into the 4th choice as it turns out half of his class is going there as well. He then admitted he never liked the selective school when he did the tour.

Now DS and DH want to do a tour of the school they refused to go and see previously. Is it normal to ask for a tour of the allocated school in the next week? Or do schools not care anymore?
