The Lonely Wait for City (boys) result

Anyone want to hold hands while waiting for City offer/rejection ? Feels like everyone else is sorted (bar Westminster - not sure when they are out) and we are the last to hear! How did you all feel the interview went ? My DS was not too happy coming out so if that is a good indication then I should not be holding out too much hope. Did anyone feel it went well ? Any scholarship hopes ? What is it about City that you liked above the others ?

Yes, and he told them.

originalmavis · 14/02/2016 13:26

Actually be told one that he didn't want to go there as he'd rather day at his prep.

Mandzi34 · 14/02/2016 13:54

Oh really! What did they say?

originalmavis · 14/02/2016 14:03

'Ohhhhhhhh kaaaaaaayyyyy' and went on with the next question. I suppose the interviewersust be used to it!

Mandzi34 · 14/02/2016 17:50

Yes and would show he certainly wasn't prepped for the interview!

originalmavis · 14/02/2016 18:33

Oh yes, you just can't tutor that kind of response!

Mandzi34 · 14/02/2016 19:47

:)

It will be interesting to see how many boys who had a bad interview experience will get offers on Friday. I assume that those who were being considered for scholarships were told this before their interview ? A small part of me thinks that a rejection will be a good thing as it makes it easy to go with LU. No one likes a rejection though.

We weren't told about scholarship before hand.

sdavlistentomother · 15/02/2016 14:56

And you got one? Well done! Did you take it up?

He did - it was 13+ (sat last year) so we have to make the final decision my September. They consider everyone who applies and tell you in the letter. I missed it in all the excitement and DS pointed it out.

sdavlistentomother · 15/02/2016 15:27

Did you try for Westminster? With a scholarship from City l'm guessing you did. Amazing achievement.

Wait list, feh. Got StP offer. I do wonder how sometimes (the trying pre-teens has struck).

Mandzi34 · 15/02/2016 17:04

They told you in the offer letter about the scholarship originalmavis? Amazing achievement for your boy!

originalmavis · 15/02/2016 18:29

When they send the place offer letter they say if there's a scholarship offered too. It did catch me by surprise - he's a bought one but I didn't really think he was scholarship, and didn't really think he was prepared for the exams. The suppose he will continue to surprise!

The scholarship selection process is done behind the scenes, so all the boys go through the same process. I don't know what basis they give academic ones. Obviously the choir ones are for fantastic choristers.

Mandzi34 · 15/02/2016 20:11

Well it's always a good surprise! :) and helps with the fees I guess. He must have been one of the very top performers so quite incredible.

contraryMe · 15/02/2016 20:21

What's the chance of getting off a Westminster wait list l wonder? Just in case we get put on one. Does anyone refuse Westminster? There is the Saturday school l suppose which must be a pain for families with children who want to go away for weekends. Must be hard to resist though.

Mandzi34 · 15/02/2016 20:25

I'd be surprised if Westminster had much of a waiting list!

Hopeless432 · 16/02/2016 10:46

When do Westminster results come out?

BirdyArms · 16/02/2016 16:23

My DS came out of the city interview very chirpy, as did his friend from the same primary who came out from the same interviewer immediately before him. Now I'm feeling worried that he has completely missed the point!

Don't think he had a passage or a poem but was asked a LOT of questions (worried this means his replied were too brief!). He was asked to talk about a picture, was asked a moral dilemma questions, some current affairs and then a lot of more factual questions, what his parents did, which schools he'd applied to, why he likes city, what he does out of school etc.

This is our only independent school, he has a place at a state grammar but it's a long commute from home so I am really hoping he gets CLS (and wishing we'd applied to some more independents).

Hopeless432 · 16/02/2016 16:44

A lot depends on the interviewer. How a school could judge a child's performance in an interview is beyond me. Teachers are so different one from another - children will react differently to different personalities. The only objective analysis must surely be the exam?

anotherdayanother · 19/02/2016 12:29

Did you get results?

LookatmeMum · 19/02/2016 15:06

Wait listed for City. Don't think they ever go to Waitlist though? I think they over offer. Letter says to contact them if we have another offer which we have to accept before 7th and we do - an equally good popular school (maybe better depending on your view point). Don't know what to do now. How could they offer us something before they know who has accepted at City ? Confused. Thought l'd get time to have another look round but sounds like l'd have to campaign to get in. Hard when l'm not sure at all. Tempted to go with the firm offer for confidence etc

Mandzi34 · 19/02/2016 16:51

Same waitlisted for City. We also have an offer from an equally good coed which is what DS wants but keen to understand if City do ever go to the wait list?

Nowlknow · 19/02/2016 17:03

what does your Waitlist letter say? They may require you to reject your current offer and ask for an immediate acceptance for City. They will know what offer you have (schools talk to each other) so you will need to be very clear that you don't want the offer and that you prefer City. Surely they must have gone to wait list in past?
