Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

Theas ~ you're absolutely right ~ there are those first time 'life events' that really used to worry me with DD1 (and she's like me, quite a nervous person so if she's worried about something, I am too) but those same 'life events' don't bother me with DD2, who (as an added bonus), tends to breeze through things anyway.

So grass is cut, weeding done. What next? Ah, hoovering!

auntpetunia · 19/08/2015 16:23

Well distraction technique today has been hospital with nanny, which took a lot longer than we had expected. 2 hrs with mum asking why she was there and then moaning about being kept waiting. And then I get home to find I'm on the MN list.

Horsemad · 19/08/2015 17:15

thanks bTM for the linky Smile
Thought y'all were a bit quiet on the other one! Grin

Still calm here, in fact it doesn't feel like anything's happening tomorrow Shock DS hasn't mentioned a thing but have only just got home from work so haven't had chance to speak in great depth.

Here, the photographer is usually already at the school and they take pics of various pupils receiving results, not necessarily A* students.

Nobody tells you about the exam stresses when you have that new baby in your arms, do they?! Hmm

hackmum · 19/08/2015 17:27

According to DD, the grade boundary for an A* in AQA biology has gone up 10 whole marks from last year to 83%. She's not happy.

SugarPlumTree · 19/08/2015 17:34

AP have some Wine, that sounds distracting not in a good way.

DD has a friend over and seems quite happy at the moment which I'm enjoying whilst it lasts.

SugarPlumTree · 19/08/2015 17:36

Think if I had 20 cans of cider here Savagebeauty there be considerably less in the morning.

randallflagg1 · 19/08/2015 17:38

Calm here. Well DS is calm. His school went into special measures this year, his target grades and mocks were good but I have ZERO faith in the school. He's got a place at a decent 6th form (all being well) Me and his dad are already having a glass of wine.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/08/2015 17:40

Ah that does seem harsh/ difficult to achieve hackmum
Shame, we wouldn't mind one of them - DD's best and favourite subject

But maybe the exam was a breeze huh? Grin

Helenluvsrob · 19/08/2015 18:16

Testing the shiny new username here. DC 3 making distracting banana bread then we are going to the cinema though I need to work really !

Hackmum I read that as gone up 10%?from 83 and that did seem very hard !

tbtc20 · 19/08/2015 18:28

hack That's what I don't understand. My understanding is that according to the level of the paper, getting 83% is an A*. If it's gone up by 10% over last year it just means last years paper was harder.

Year on year students should be graded equally according to their ability.
I just don't get all the hoo haa about grade boundaries. Can someone explain?

CQ · 19/08/2015 18:43

Gutted. DS was at school today for pre-term sports practice and just called to ask if he can stay with friend who lives v close to school tonight.

So I won't get to be one of the mums in the school car park in the morning Sad

He will call me with the results.

Ripeningapples · 19/08/2015 18:50

We are off out in a bit for pizza. It's poring here which doesn't lift the spirits either.

Good luck. Fingers and toes crossed.

Fairenuff · 19/08/2015 19:07

We are all ready here. Ds is happy for me to go with him, no waiting in the car park, he'll just open the envelope and we'll look at it together. Then I'll go on home and he will go for coffee with friends.

Later he wants to go to a house party which is supposed to finish at 2am Hmm

SheGotAllDaMoves · 19/08/2015 19:40

Feeling anxious here.

Can't drink as have to pick DD from a BBQ later.

I'm taking DD tomorrow morning and DH is taking DS (though I think he can get some Edexcel IGCSEs on line at 6am).

Savagebeauty · 19/08/2015 19:43

sugarplumtree I dont like cider!!
DS getting the bus tomorrow ...then onto register at 6th form. I've said I'd appreciate a text with results Grin

Ripeningapples · 19/08/2015 19:59

Have had a small pinot now. Will buy two of those little bottles from sainos in a min. If I open one at home I'll drink half and a bit, then DH will open another when he gets home.

She's eaten less than half a pizza because she feels sick and her period came this pm I wish she'd just get in the big bed tonight like when she was little about 11

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/08/2015 20:04

We def have wine here - with our cheesy pasta Wine
Also def feeling nervous - but anyone else admit to the tiniest bit of excitement/anticipation in the mix somewhere too?!
One sleep to go
Best of luck to us them all Smile

OddBoots · 19/08/2015 20:07

We are distracting ourselves with Bake Off. DS seems to have gained a number of female friends this summer, he is WhatsApping with them about it.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/08/2015 20:10

Ooh Bake Off - that would be perfect
I'll see if I can wrestle the remote off DH !

HSMMaCM · 19/08/2015 20:27

DD has gone for a run. I'm drinking wine. She wants to be at school at 1045 tomorrow.

tobee · 19/08/2015 20:33

Horsemad, I said to ds just now (mid discussion of result getting worries) "this isn't what I had children for!" Fortunately he seemed to find it funny.

Ha! Now turns out dh has to use car to take older dd to airport for early flight as no public transport will be up and running, so ds and I will go into school by bus! I'm not allowed to go inside with him so I'll probably end up skulking about nearby looking like a loony, especially if it's raining at 8.30a.m. I bet it all ends up being very complicated at school's results h.q working out points and 6th form options etc.

On stupid fast day so I can't have a stiff drink.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/08/2015 20:48

I'm hoping we can go in slightly earlier HSM - think school is open from 9 and DD has been in at 9 all this week at nearby college doing NCS programme. So, in theory, it should be possible!
And the sooner she knows surely logically the less time I'll be waiting - even though plans apparently include mooching around park for a couple of hours with friends before calling DParents for a lift home - oh and maybe telling them what we got!

Oh, what a lovely post mouse
Good luck to your DS for tomorrow
You probably won't know me as I only found MN about ten yrs ago I think!

IrianofWay · 19/08/2015 21:25

DD worked so bloody hard that if she doesn't do well someone is going to suffer!!!

Could somebody remind me who is the current education secretary please .....

Wink

Actually forget the Wink as I am not sure I am joking. I swear she is suffering from PTSD.
