Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

Ds has bought one folder and some poly pockets. We are going tomorrow to get the rest of it but he doesn't need much. Mostly just paper, couple more folders and a memory stick.

HSMMaCM · 29/08/2015 19:49

DD has some A4 lined paper and nothing else. I'm sure she'll expect me to produce everything at a moments notice, but she's got a job now and can sort it out herself.

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2015 19:54

Dingit, result! On the bread I mean - it sounds like there won't be a problem with the sixthform or they would be getting onto it earlier.

On DDs History homework there was a ticklist of things they should have done, including exact details about buying x files, dividers, etc (OCD, much?!) Hope she hasn't lost it. I guess some pens and lined file paper is the minimum, and we have that at home.

LynetteScavo · 29/08/2015 22:02

Stationary? Well, DS seems to have several fully equiped clear pencil cases left over from his GCSE exams (I may have over purchased!) before that he only had one pen, and borrowed everything else from the person he was sitting next to.

I remember having a lever arch file for each subject in 6th form...do they still do that? I think DS is planning on typing everything with two fingers and printing it off. Hmm

Horsemad · 29/08/2015 22:13

Lynette a file for every subject is good. My DS1 was using one file for every subject (he is a (disorganised) numpty!)

I finally got through to him it was much better to have a separate file for each subject! Hmm

JugglingFromHereToThere · 30/08/2015 09:45

Ooh yes, stationary especially for DD going into sixth form - that's something to think about for the last week of summer hols. I need some kind of project it's been a long summer hasn't it?! Possibly could get some bits for DS too (going into Y9)

Auntpetunia2015 · 30/08/2015 11:07

Even Mr dyspraxic dyslexic and disorganised DS has purchased 4 ring files, 2 pads of lined paper 2 reams of A4 and a whole load of plastic wallets to go in the folders!!! He has loads of pens etc on his desk and hes planning on using the Mexican scout rucksack he traded at the jamboree. Am v v impressed with how organised he is, for now.

Meeting arranged for him, senco, head of 6th form and 6th form admin for Friday to see what support or equipment he needs, surprisingly he doesn't want me there!!

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2015 12:29

That's way more organised than my DD, AuntP! And great that he feels confident going to that meeting on his own.

Here I am enjoying the calm with DH as they are both away. Not particularly looking forward to trying to pick the girls up from Reading tomorrow, but as I am staying at a friends nearby tonight, at least I won't be getting up early!

HSMMaCM · 30/08/2015 13:01

DD is coming home from the festival at 1am tonight. I'll be asleep

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2015 15:34

DD has just text to say can I pick them up at 9 as they will stay up all night...

JugglingFromHereToThere · 30/08/2015 17:11

Probably not as exciting as staying over at a festival but DD seemed mildly excited about getting some stationary sorted for the start of sixth form, when I picked her up from volunteering just now Grin
I rather like a nice new folder too Smile

Eve · 30/08/2015 17:16

I think reading is going well... DS was thrilled to see catfish & Mumford & sons.

Pick him up tomorrow at 10am

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2015 17:34

Might see you there! DD text earlier to say could I pick them up at 9 as they are planning to stay up all night and pack up at 7/8Shock

SugarPlumTree · 30/08/2015 18:08

Sounds like they are having a good time!

I'm in complete denial about them starting next week and hadn't even thought of stationery.

SugarPlumTree · 30/08/2015 18:28

Seems DD had thought about stationery and bought folders on Japan.

Apparently tomorrow she's dying her hair blue in readiness for school.

With the whole non uniform thing I may have overlooked the fact i have a younger child who does require uniform and has grown like a weed this holiday.

Horsemad · 30/08/2015 18:37

Ha ha SPT, I was so absorbed in DS1's Uni prep that I also forgot about poor DS2 and had to go all out on one day to kit him out with uniform!

randallflagg1 · 30/08/2015 18:44

Enrollment on Tuesday here for my DS, who since results day has turned from a monosyllabic nocturnal misery guts into a happy, chatty young man!!

We're going out clothes shopping tomorrow - would anyone like to buy a kidney?

MossAgate · 30/08/2015 23:26

Well. DD has a tidy room now, new stationery and has greatly perfected her ancient Egyptian Goddess eyeliner technique.

TheWoollybacksWife · 30/08/2015 23:43

DD2 has enrolled and done two taster days at her new school. She got all her first choice courses. Term starts on Wednesday and at least two wardrobes full of clothes some new outfits have been purchased along with stationery, a memory stick, a bag and a padlock for her locker. I need to take her to town tomorrow or Tuesday to buy a waterproof coat as she will be walking to and from school and then she's done although she is taking photography ALevel so will most likely need some sort of fancy camera gizmo soon Luddite

I daren't tell her about all your DCs at Reading- she will be Envy. It wasn't on her radar until one of her friends told her about a ticket that a neighbour was selling as they couldn't go. Then she wanted to go - but by the time she got back to her friend the ticket was already sold, so she has already started saving for next year Grin

CQ · 31/08/2015 07:42

Relieved to report that PFB son got back at 6a.m. this morning from Reading Festival. Tired and smelly but in one piece. He had to call my mobile as he couldn't get in as someone had unreasonably left a key inside the lock. He was so tired and emotional! We weren't expecting him until 8 but it started raining again so they called his friends mum who agreed to come at 5 in the morning and get them. Which is probably the best way to avoid the carnage that will be Reading today. Rain, mud, traffic, train strike. Good luck getting all your DC's home folks Confused.

Horsemad · 31/08/2015 08:15

Did you have to hose him down before you let him in CQ?! Grin

CQ · 31/08/2015 08:23

He left all his stinky bags/wellies on the back doorstep. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts which were the only dry clothes he had left. Freezing cold and almost sobbing with fatigue. Suspect fetid clothes all over the bathroom floor now as he's had a quick hot shower and fallen into bed.
I'm not going near the stinky bag - he can deal with that delight when he wakes up!

The joys of parenthood Grin

Moss what's your secret ? DD has the eyeliner sorted but the tidy room she promises would happen after exams has not happened.

Wooly DD is supposed to have a 35mm film camera for Photography, no mention of a posh one (but she saved for 3 years and has one anyway, can recommend a Canon).

Apparently DD will be dying her hair blue today. Where she's going to get the dye I have no idea, FIL was not expected to make through the night (again but he can't go much longer like this). I took up cleaning the kitchen yesterday as a distraction and DD was so worried about this abnormal she had a quiet word with DH

getoffthattabletnow · 31/08/2015 08:43

No stationary bought here and no holiday homework either. She has a suggested reading list though.Fermatts Theorem started ( sp?) - its a massive thick book and she's still reading it several weeks later.

Her sixth form wardrobe has been perfected however.A level choices have been decided/then not.Does she do 3 or 4 - the fourth being further Maths. She also has to do a lot of work experience for Vet. Med./Medicine.Apparently its far better to do 3 and get A/A*'s than do 4 and get a B in any of them. That means instant disqualification from applying.

In really lovely news we've been informed she is winning the Latin cup and a achievement award on speech day.On the other hand one of her 'friends' is having a big barbecue and has invited everyone but her.All other friends are rather puzzled by the exclusion.Shes upset but i've said its a reflection on her friend not the fact that dd's dislikeable. If someone had done this to dd2 she would just shrug it off and hate the person forever more. But dd1 is more of a sensitive soul.Dh has just said she needs to pick her friends better ( which really doesn't help.
