Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

DD got back from reading at 3:30 this morning (thanks DH). She has work at 10. She has purple hair and a plentiful supply of clothes and makeup for sixth form. Courses and stationery still to be organised. She is off to work today with massive blisters on her feet.

TheWoollybacksWife · 31/08/2015 11:25

Eek - sounds like I've got a year to persuade her not to go to Reading Grin She can be grumpy enough in normal teenage mode never mind lack of sleep/cold/wet/sore Grin Grin I hope your DC recover quickly and that any laundry is done by your DC in true MN fashion Grin

SPT I would love it if she does need a film camera for her course. I asked DH/DD2 if she would be learning how to develop photos as part of her course and they both looked at me as if I had fallen out of the sky. This then prompted my long and rambling reminiscing about sending your photos off to Truprint for a two week turnaround and buying film and flash units at Boots. When did our teenage modern technology become history?

getoff that is brilliant news about the prizes, you must be very proud. My DD1 sounds like your DD2, she would shrug a non-invitation off. My DD2 would be filled with angst though and there would be much texting and tweeting.

TheWoollybacksWife · 31/08/2015 11:27

Far too many smileys there for a wet bank holiday morning. Sorry.

MossAgate · 31/08/2015 12:41

Cleaning of room happened rapidly after the iPod was kidnapped for a while. Amazing how clean her room has been since. Smile

SoupDragon · 31/08/2015 13:05

I changed the WiFi password once and refused to give it to teen DSs until they'd cleared their respective Pits of Doom. :)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 31/08/2015 13:12

SugarPlum Sorry to hear of your worries with FIL illness Sad

GetOff Sorry to hear about non-invitation for DD. That's crap and very bad form! Hope the well-deserved school prizes and solidarity of other friends will lift her spirits

Glad we dodged the festivals for another year!

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2015 15:00

SugarPlum, sorry to hear that you are on the Roller coaster with DFIL.

Well done Getoff's DD. Mine would be beside herself to be left out - it's a horrid thing to do to someone.

Shock at all the DC getting home so early from Reading - I picked DD and her mates up after 9 (after waiting in a different carpark from them) - muddy, wet, tired but very happy. They had the best timeSmile They all fell asleep in the car!

SugarPlumTree · 31/08/2015 16:51

I am so off my game, vanishing iPods and changed wifi passwords make perfect sense! She does seem to have tidied as a Snapchat showing her floor came through earlier.

Thanks for the sympathy on the FIL front and apologies for moaning yet again. He went into hospital just before DS broke up so it's been 6 weeks of waiting for the phone call and however much we try to be business as normal it is getting a bit hard on the nerves as there's the whole jumping on a plane to funeral th g to come. Poor DH.

Wooly DD did some darkroom stuff as part of the GCSE but lost her film camera very early on and definitely did not bond with the whole experience - something along the lines of why would she want to faff around doing that (it's likevscience apparently and she doesn't do science) when she has a digital camera !

Getoff sorry to hear that, you'd hope they would be past things like that now. Good to hear about solidarity of her other friends .

Good to hear of all these exhausted but happy Reading DC's Smile

Kez100 · 31/08/2015 18:28

Some schools have darkroom facilities and others not. Even some degree courses don't anymore but most see the importance of having at least a small darkroom. It's very useful for understanding exposures and to have an appreciation of photographic history. Understanding your place in art history is important, I think.

spudmasher · 01/09/2015 19:48

DD starts college at 8.30 tomorrow! That's going to be a shock to her system!

Savagebeauty · 01/09/2015 19:49

DS back at 10. Spent 5 days doing homework but has enjoyed it.
He has just done the hoovering.

SugarPlumTree · 01/09/2015 20:21

DD has just logged on and has seen her new timetable which she sounds pleased with. Apparently she's going to be asleep by 10pm in readiness for her 8.25am start.

She had a shot at dying her hair turquoise today but nothing happened when she did a test bit so her friend volunteered to do it and made a good job.

No need for her to take lunch tomorrow as School are doing a BBQ and have an ice cream van going in.

TheCheeseAlarm · 01/09/2015 20:31

DS1 started 6th form today. He love, love, loved it. I haven't seen him so animated for years. He even enjoyed the enforced game of rounders.

He was on time too which is a bit of a miracle for him.

Long may it continue.

I hope things go smoothly for everyone else.

getoffthattabletnow · 01/09/2015 20:34

Good luck to your dd tomorrow Sugarplum.I can't believe its the end of the holidays.I'm sure the turquoise hair will look pretty. My two dd's have ombre - d their hair Red for the holidays. It looks fairly subtle but is fading quickly.

Many thanks for all the kind words regarding dd's exclusion.I have relayed some of the comments to her as she claims i don't 'understand' her situation. They've really helped.
SugarPlumTree · 01/09/2015 20:43

Thank you Getoff I'm glad the thread has been able to help a bit. I've got used to DD not having brown hair now after her post Japan green hair, it seems quite normal now !

TheCheeseAlarm that is a result then !! Fingers crossed we have lots posts like that the next few days.

Bit of a sad day here as FIL passed away earlier but everyone bearing up well in circumstances.

HSMMaCM · 01/09/2015 20:52

DD starts back Thursday. She has allegedly been doing homework today whilst lying in her bed. She will spend most of Thursday discussing her A level choices I think. Still not firmed up.

HSMMaCM · 01/09/2015 20:53

Flowers SPT and family.

SugarPlumTree · 01/09/2015 21:51

You're all very lovely, thank you Smile

SIL was asking after DD on phone earlier and DH said she would love to work in film. SIL reminded him about their Dad's cousin who was an animator. Looked her up and she has done a lot of work before she retired working with some well known people which was a nice bit of family history for DH and DD plus a great role model for DD.
