Saturday job will be great -earning her own money Smile

Horsemad · 25/08/2015 20:17

Can't believe how quickly the new term is coming round. Where did the summer go? Shock
No holiday homework here, so it will be down to earth with a BIG bump after a couple of months just chillin' Smile

HSMMaCM · 25/08/2015 21:47

Ding it - DD is loving her job. She's made friends, that all hate the boss and she can make cappuccino and occasionally gets free chips. What more could she ask for Grin

Good luck to all DCs going to Reading today! Been raining cats and dogs here, they will need to take inflatable canoes/arks. I drove through a flood that was up to the door sills on my car, very scary! DS was eventually persuaded to take wellies and a raincoat although I am sure both will either be nicked or come back unworn. Lots of black bin bags smuggled into his bag by me. I'm glad DH is picking them up - five days of mud, rain and no showers, I think he will have to drive home with the windows open.

bigTillyMint · 27/08/2015 08:16

DH dropped DD (off to Reading!) to her friends before 6 this morning looking forward to 4 strop-free days hope they have a lovely time! They seemed to have packed everything bar the kitchen sink - no idea how they will carry it to the camping ground. And I am picking the four of them up on Monday

She got the homework finished and the enrolment morning went a lot better than she was imagining it would, so I think she is fairly likely to be going to the sixth form which was her first choice. We also did a very quick shop for some clothes for sixth form, so fingers crossed she's about to make the next step!

dingit · 27/08/2015 08:34

Hsmmacm, that sounds a great Saturday job. Dd is working in rthe local bakery. She gets to choose any cake on breaks, and a sandwich and cake at lunch. It's a good thing I don't have a job there, they would be having to widening the door way. Ds is hoping she brings home left overs. Smile

HSMMaCM · 27/08/2015 09:16

Picking DD up from work at 12 and then off to Reading Festival. Her friend is already here, having a lie in while she works. They're not camping this year.

bigTillyMint · 27/08/2015 10:40

dingit, that sounds like my kinda job! My mate from school used to work in the local bakers and got unsold stuff at the end of the day on Saturdays. She was very popular in her house!

HSM, if they're not camping, where are they staying?

HSMMaCM · 27/08/2015 11:13

Staying at home, so they can have a shower, straighten their hair etc Grin

bigTillyMint · 27/08/2015 14:37

Ah, lucky you live near enough!

bebumba · 27/08/2015 17:19

Just got back from our holiday. Ds really pleased with GCSE results and is looking forward to 6th form.
I have spent the afternoon washing his clothes and am now ironing them ready for him to head off to Reading tomorrow.

Eve · 27/08/2015 23:22

Mine went of to reading this morning as well.

IrianofWay · 28/08/2015 13:45

Feeling very (unjustifiably) annoyed this morning. Local rag published the various schools' results. Most of them posted the details for the top students. Our school stated they as all their students worked hard they would not publish specific results and leave the student to celebrate privately with their friends and family

I want to boast.....

spudmasher · 28/08/2015 20:36

DD annoyed she is not at Reading with every other teen in the nation......so she's decided she's off to Notting Hill carnival instead......Shock

Ripeningapples · 28/08/2015 22:37

Mine is too quiet and shy to even contemplate Reading or Carnival. Her brother has done all that before her. Just hoping and praying she'll be happier at 6th form than she was at her secondary school.

One week to go and I'm off work now until she starts so hoping to have a few nice days out and a bit of mother and daughter chill time.

I do worry about her.

bigTillyMint · 28/08/2015 22:55

Apples, big sympathy. My DD is strangely confident in some situations (like bungy jumping, and festivals with friends) but not in others - like doing a presentation in class - due to bullying in Y9/10. I am hopeful that she can overcome this and grow back her "school" confidence at sixth form, and your DD and others tooFlowers

Savagebeauty · 29/08/2015 10:22

DS has spent the last 3 days doing homework and enjoying it. Lots to do in history but a great syllabus...Cold War and Tudors. Right up my street.
He starts a new part time job at a well known clothing/ food store next week, so that's Xmas dinner sorted Grin

mummytime · 29/08/2015 10:57

Just popping in to say, we registered at Sixth Form college yesterday - a complicated business (DD choose yet a different A'level whilst there). But we came out thinking how friendly and pleasant everyone had been.

DD was also told by everyone what good GCSE grades she'd got, maybe she'll start believing it soon. She has quite a bit of homework to get done in the next week. Induction is Thursday but timetabled lessons don't start until the Monday.

HSMMaCM · 29/08/2015 12:24

DD has decided to stay the night at Reading festival tonight, as she had such a great time yesterday.

She's reading The Inportance of Being Ernest for her drama course next week. She can do that in a week right?

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2015 16:01

Savage, I think DDs History will be the Cold War and The Wars of the Roses-Tudors too.

HSM, can you get last minute tickets? DD has been economical with texts but is having a good time. I think they're due some rain later...

SugarPlumTree · 29/08/2015 16:25

Hope they're all having a good time at Reading.

Can tell it is nearly back to school time by the state of the kitchen table. .

HSMMaCM · 29/08/2015 16:38

Btm I don't know. She bought her weekend ticket ages ago, but I was being a bit pfb and didn't want her to stay over. She came home last night, but wanted to stay for some late night stuff like the silent disco and other random stuff, so I reasoned that if she was staying for half the night, she may as well stay for the whole night. Her friend has her older brother there with 2 tents, so they have backup if they need it.

LynetteScavo · 29/08/2015 16:56

DS1 doesn't want to do the holiday maths homework because "It's just GCSE stuff".

In good old DS1 style he will do it the night before the start of term.

My suggestion that he attended a festival this summer or next was greeted with horror. Obviously not his thing!

He's now bored and has started to interact with DS2 and DD...I think he'll actually enjoy the start of term. Grin I'm sending him to enroll at school on the train as the school bus doesn't start until the 8th, and I have to work. It's a 2 hour trip each way, so that should keep him busy.

I had no idea how anxious I was about his GCSE results. I've been so relaxed since the 20th.....not sure I can go through that again next year, and the year after, and then again with 2 more DC! Shock

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2015 18:36

Ah, if she already had a weekend ticket, then she's fine to stay!

So, what stationery has everyone's DC bought in preparation? DD has bought none yet and will have to do a quick sweep when she is back from Reading...

dingit · 29/08/2015 18:51

We have some smart clothes now and pukka pads. Dd has a shed load of homework to finish. Started her Saturday job today and came home with two carrier bags of bread and cakes, as well as her first pay packet.
Bit worried about 6th form, was asked to email acceptance of place to admissions by 24th, but got an automatic return email saying emails wouldn't be read until 1st September. Maybe ringing up to check on Tuesday. Also they have no emergency health/ contact details.
