This time last year I was on the threads asking if it's possible to up your AS grades from Cs to As. (The consensus was almost impossible unless you sacrifice your health and social life.)

It is possible across the board! With a very healthy social life and a job added in.

Well bloody done my amazing ds Grin

Littleham · 13/08/2015 10:55

Good luck Horsemad. Results day is tough. Hope today goes well for your ds.

Good luck cooroo.

Best of luck for the re-mark Decorhate.

A*,A & B here. I'm surprised you couldn't hear the scream! Her headteacher brought her out to me in the car park (her car has broken down so I had to take her) and she ran up to me crying but luckily tears of happiness. Our only thought now is 'could she have aimed higher for her choice of uni' but hey ho she got an unconditional to a uni that she loved.

Off to celebrate with a cup of tea Grin and to read the thread.

Fairenuff · 13/08/2015 11:03

Well dd exceeded her offer so also bagged herself a scholarship which will help financially.

Congrats to all those with offers and best of luck to those looking for a place through clearing. It's a ridiculous system that people should be in limbo right now, they really need to change it. So frustrating but hopefully everyone who wants one will get a place soon.

Horsemad · 13/08/2015 11:05

Thanks Littleham, his Chem mock was U so at least having the tutor got his grade upto a B. (I'm trying to look for positives here!)

DD got AAAA and an A for her EPQ she missed her firm offer by two marks off an A but Cambridge have now made her offer unconditional so she can still go!!!
Well done for everyone who has an offer and good luck to anyone who is in clearing.

Good news here - DS has got into Warwick for maths! So pleased and excited for him! Just wish I hadn't woken up at 4a.m. with nerves!

Sending good vibes everyone's way (and Flowers and Cake )

What a morning!
On track, DS had offer from his insurance, but no decision from his firm (Southampton).
Into school to get grades, found he had got ABC, but only 5 points off his B (in Chemistry ) being an A, and one point off his C(Physics) being a B.
His original offer was A*AB, but his course is in clearing asking for AAC.
So rang Southampton's clearing hotline & was told that 'they didn't have his grades, but school should ring in with them'!. Seemed very odd, but went back to school, got VI form head to ring the Uni.
Found out that in fact they had his grades, but they weren't good enough for his course. Like Horsemad's DS, was offered a place to do Chemistry instead. DS then explained how close he was to getting the higher grades, and was told to email his UMS marks in, and they would be passed on to the admissions tutor to reconsider.
So now we wait.
DS really want a decision soon, so that if he is not going to Soton he can start sorting out accommodation etc at his insurance choice.

Decorhate · 13/08/2015 12:25

Anyone know why universities don't get given the UMS marks directly? Surely it would help with their decision making?

AmazingDisgrace · 13/08/2015 12:46

DD got BBB (story of her life, missed the A in Philosophy by 1 mark!) and is in at her Firm -QMUL to study Geography. Phew!!

Congratulations to those who got what they needed and wanted. Commiserations to those who've not got the results they needed.

cathyandclaire · 13/08/2015 12:49

Well done to everyone.
Sad news here, DD got AAA but missed her Cambridge offer. She is devastated, her English Lit was pretty close to an A* so getting a remark but the paper she thought she did best in she got a D for (drama) luckily her AS and other marks upped it to an A but she cannot understand it at all.
She's not been rejected by Cambridge yet, just waiting on that and the remark but worried that if it all drags on she's struggle to get accommodation in Bristol.

circular · 13/08/2015 13:15

Hi all
Congrats to all those DC that made their offers, some brilliant results, Hope those going through clearing get sorted soon.
DD got her firm despite missing offer by 3 grades. Saw on the freshers page that some got into her course missing more. Quite astonishing for a Uk top 20 Uni, both overall and in her subject. Doesn't think that is any reflection on her course.

Waitingaround · 13/08/2015 13:19

Ds has just been rejected from Durham. So will go to York (I think)

ItsJustPaint · 13/08/2015 13:25

Agree with circular, my dd still got her firm despite dropping 2 grades.

Nottingham so a good option IMO.

Sorry some of you are still in limbo. Tis awful...

AtiaoftheJulii · 13/08/2015 13:34

cathy will have fingers crossed for a pleasant outcome of the remark x But I also (re)read yesterday on Bristol's site that they will guarantee accommodation for first years as long as they apply by 31 August - and I'm sure that all will be decided long before then x

voilets · 13/08/2015 13:38

lovely to read all these messages.

We have first choice here and he reached grades required too. Haven't slept, been crying - feels so momentous!

He took a gap year for many reasons but grades last year were good but not high enough for his chosen course - this year he has exceeded expectations.

so any that don't have luck through clearing - a gap year: bit of work, travel and a retake can do wonders. Our DS is so much more mature and ready.

Been there slightly disappointed ( last year) and today feel elated. Our DC just have to keep going!

cathyandclaire · 13/08/2015 14:00

Atia you have bought a tear to my eye with that bit of lovely news.
Thanks so much.

Horsemad · 13/08/2015 14:08

seimum, what was your DS applying for originally at Soton?

seimum · 13/08/2015 14:28

Horsemad - It was Electrical & electronic engineering - so why they think he might now want to do Chemistry, I don't know.
DS Chemistry teacher said that applications for Chemistry courses were low, they must just be desperate
