Not popped my head round here for ages. Hope everyone is keeping well. Seems forever, waiting in anticipation but at the same time, dont know how to think or feel about it. Must be great for those DC who are confident they've done well. Save on worrying. We going on our 3 week South East Asia tour tommorow, couldn't come sooner as like majority on here, dd is feeling anxious, nervous, trying not to think about it too much, but back of our mind its hard not to as we keep thinking about plan B, to be honest we are kind of mentally preparing for plan B, gap year, so as it won't be a shock if it came to it. Just hoping and praying that uni will be extra lenient for all of our DC. Good luck everyone, fingers crossed , I won't be back till near results day. Hopefully we wont get food poisoning or eaten alive by mosquitosConfused

Horsemad · 14/07/2015 00:02

Have a great holiday Miffy. We've bought enough anti malarials/DEET/insect repellent to sink a battleship for DS's trip to Sth Africa. Grin He's even got shirts impregnated with mosquito repellent (no idea if they'll work!! Grin )

circular · 17/07/2015 09:31

Gone a bit quiet here. have a great holiday to all those going away.

I know there seems to be various thoughts on here (possibly not this thread) whether it's worth phoning first choice Uni if grades missed. Most recent advice that DDs school has put out is that it IS worth calling.

NiceCardigan · 17/07/2015 13:58

DS has a very long email from Durham explaining exactly what to do if he misses his grades. I think he has to send in his ums scores for each exam.

We are managing to not think about it too much thanks to the Florida sunshine. We might even make it out of the house soon if DD2 ever gets ready.

Horsemad · 17/07/2015 17:43

Still not thinking about Results Day Hmm
DS is now in S Africa, arrived early this morning and then had 5 hr drive to game reserve. Haven't heard from him since he left and don't expect to - never do when he's away - unless he wants something Hmm

Hope everyone remaining calm and steadfast going towards the Results...

Littleham · 17/07/2015 19:26

Hope your son has a fantastic trip Horsemad.

Horsemad
Ds pretty much said (post A level trip) - "I've landed" and then his next text was when he was wondering if we could pick him (and his friends) airport Grin . We worked on the basis that no news was good news.

I know the IB results are out - but is anyone else feeling a bit of a weird limbo feeling before 13th August. DS has been sent suggested reading from university but won't know for another month whether he will actually be going. Don't mean to lower the tone from thiose DCs taking a well earned break. So is DS. Away next week. But a strange time

Littleham · 17/07/2015 21:02

We have noted that dd's Firm choice is not in clearing but her insurance choice does have spaces. Hopefully that is a good sign. No reading lists for either choice yet.

Thanks Littleham. Hocus - it's a 'boy' thing !! Grin
I've just looked, and DS's firm and insurance aren't publishing their Clearing vacancies until 11 and 12 Aug.
Suddenly feeling nervous...

And some unis seem to be omitting courses from their own clearing lists even though they appear on the ucas list Confused Have asked on HE thread why that might be

Decorhate · 18/07/2015 10:25

My dd is currently on hols with friends & only back for a week or so before we go on a family holiday. Get back just before results day so hopefully not too much time to worry about the results.
If she misses her firm & insurance it will have to be a total rethink of her plans as her course won't come up in clearing. And doesn't like resits.

Horsemad · 18/07/2015 12:12

Am I missing something re whether a firm or insurance Uni is in Clearing? Them being in Clearing doesn't indicate if someone has been successful or not does it? The unis over offer, so if one person hasn't been successful then someone else (who has) would get their place... So what does the Uni being in Clearing indicate - apart from vacancies, obviously! Grin

Apologies if I'm being dim here, I just can't see it...

Decorhate · 18/07/2015 13:51

Horsemad, I think if a course is in clearing and someone has an offer for the course but is worried they won't meet the offer, there is perhaps a chance they will accept lower grades as they are not full. Alternatively if it's a subject that someone has offers for elsewhere & they don't get the grades for the offer, it may be somewhere they could get in to do their subject instead

DD keeps having dreams about results day. Dream results have ranged from ABB to CCD. Confused

Meanwhile our summer holiday plans have had to be drastically revised because FIL is very ill in hospital. We don't know if he will pull through.

So now we are at home when we expected to be in Italy. Weird limbo-ish feeling.

Thanks Decorate and Mumslife. I'm trying not to think about Clearing, but it might come down to that...

Muffin - sorry to hear about your FIL.

sassymuffin · 19/07/2015 23:45

mumslife I have taken your lead and started on DDs big bedroom sort out today. It seems an epic task as she discovers lots of forgotten stuff from under the bed and at the back of her wardrobe. She is thankfully being very ruthless and is taking particular pleasure in throwing out all her school work.

The main thing DD hoards is books...under her bed, piled up on her bookshelves, on top of her wardrobe and under her desk. We have currently 5 bin bags to donate to charity Shock
She is keeping all her classics and favorites but has decided to get rid of most of her teen fiction. The dust is horrendous Blush
