Only another week to go for DD, but I know some of you have two weeks.

Ds has a sign on his door which read 'Do not wake. Need sleep' Grin

He has physics this afternoon so I'll ring him from work to make sure he's up.

Good luck today with dance and physics.

canny1234 · 12/06/2015 08:49

Last exam for us today and dd is still in bed.I feel a bit bad as we ( kids minus dh and dd) are all off to a big wedding today and I feel dd will be on anticlimax mode ( and dh will be useless).Especially as her friends still haven't finished.I've told dh to give her some money for sale shopping for prospective business dress in the sixth form and take her out for dinner after driving us to the airport.Whether he will do as he's told is another matter Hmm.

Dancing ds's here as well. One of mine has also done Ballet since the age of 6 though he is very sporty.Teaches them so many things and is really good exercise. He is starting to exhibit slightly teenage selfconsciousness now whereas his twin sister has suddenly become very graceful ( he used to be the better dancer and she was a bit rigid).Funny the effect that hormones have.

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2015 08:50

DD got up to go in for physics revision before the exam - not her best subjectGrin I wish it was her last.

Ashbeeee · 12/06/2015 08:57

Hello everyone. A day in bed for us today (or rather for her, I have work to do). maths yesterday was good and she was smiling at home when I got in. One more history next week 'that will be easy coz it's only 3 pages of the text book' Hmm

We are all ready for Prom (ridiculous Americanism, but any excuse for a party, right?). All the girls are coming here to get ready - and mums coming along too. It will be chaotic. My sister is coming over to do make up and nails. Only 1 controversy so far, DD Boyf is coming to collect her,and so is DD friend's girlfriend (she's bi) and girlfriend wanted to get ready here as well, because she's a girl. But ruling by DD and mates is she can't join them because a) she's not one of their (very strongly defined) group of mates clique or coven? and that she's a partner so can't come because DDs boyf isn't getting ready at ours either. God, hope there won't be tears. I'm staying out of the politics and will have wine on hand.

Have a good day everyone.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/06/2015 09:00

Sounds of life from DD at 8:32 so she's coming round. No pre exam revision sessions but we did have a short conversation about refraction after she'd balanced my reading glasses on the dog's nose.

dingit · 12/06/2015 09:02

Ashbee, the prom thing sounds very complicated! Dd was going with a friend ( boy), who is now not going, so at the moment she's going alone Hmm
What history paper is your dd doing? Mines Germany, which is her worst part, and she's already stressing over it.

Littleham · 12/06/2015 09:43

Welcome ByTheSea and anyone else who may be lurking out there (feel free to post). Great that those who have missed lots of school have coped with the exams.

I like the dormant description Errol. They have been a bit like volcanoes for the past few weeks haven't they? My dd has moved from extinct to dormant to active and for a nasty time yesterday I thought she might be extinct again. She is partially revising now.

I don't envy you with your complicated prom Ashbeeee! Smile I've lucked out as my dd is going to another girls house for a pre prom party and them for a sleepover elsewhere afterwards.

Good luck to all the dancers & Physicists today.

tbtc · 12/06/2015 09:51

Not a great morning in the tbtc household.
Lost my temper with DS who I just wanted to chat to but he was sitting at his laptop with his earphones on watching bloody youtube. Drives me NUTS when I am unable to ask him little questions about the day.

Have apologised and it's fine, but not my greatest Mum moment considering he's got an exam (physics) this afternoon.

Am all stressed about upcoming work travel and SO much to do (with work and home) before I go.

In lovely news though, DS got a letter from one his 6th forms saying he's been selected to join the high achievers for support to apply to Oxbridge.
Am I allowed to say that on this thread or is is regarded as showing off and not the done thing on a support thread? Well, I am proud and I don't have a Mum or Dad to share these things with.

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 09:51

I now have a sleep-deprived image of my DS trying to explain velocity through the medium of interpretive dance.

GloriaSmud · 12/06/2015 09:56

Errol Grin at the dog taking part in revision.
tbtc Massive congratulations to you and your Son. That's wonderful news!

Last one for us today. Not a lot of revision's been done for the last few exams ~ I think DD's all 'revisioned out' now. She's decided that she wants a meal of Aldi pizza and mahoosive slices of takeaway Cake (from a local restaurant) to celebrate tonight.

switchitoff · 12/06/2015 10:15

DS' last exam today (Physics) and was definitely feeling AWOL yesterday; not sure any revision was done at all. The plan is for him to go to the Lido to celebrate with his friends afterwards, but given that the weather forecast is for torrential rain and thunderstorms from about 3pm I'm not sure how that will work out. Hmm

Congratulations to all the DCs who have made it through this stressful time despite adversities. Flowers

Oddboots I have another DC with many of the same issues as your DS. Lovely to hear that dance has been so beneficial for him! I have always struggled to get mine to join in with anything physical, but in the last year they have started Parcours lessons (also known as Free-Running) and it's been the best thing. Basically a gym with padded walls, highly-sprung floors and huge pits full of foam for the DCs to throw themselves around/ do somersaults etc without hurting themselves! I strongly recommend it if it's offered in your area. As you say, anything which builds their core strength has to be a good thing.

Am off to a friend's birthday lunch now. Is it too early for Wine?? Grin

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 11:05

Ah, the kraken awakes... DS in shower.

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 11:09

I'm surprised the Daily Mail hasn't got a hold of this thread actually and characterised us all as a bunch of over-indulgent, middle class, wine-swilling, over-involved, obsessive fusspots.

There, I've done their headline writing for them Smile

I hope they print my theory about Michael Gove being a North Korean infiltrator.

tbtc · 12/06/2015 11:18

line I resent that comment Wink. I haven't had a glass of wine for ages!

dingit · 12/06/2015 11:22

It's Friday tbtc, Wine needs to be done, cheers Smile

JugglingFromHereToThere · 12/06/2015 11:24

Just physics left this afternoon for dd - she's just been telling me all about waves and we've been trying to find out which sort light and sound waves are - I think I was some help because I remembered they were different to each other - think she's got it sorted now
Have been tidying kitchen in hope of making house more presentable for family celebrations this evening - DGP's are coming up for an art show at school followed by a meal out. Wish me luck with all of that too! dd is looking forward to it so that makes it all worthwhile. Hopefully it will be a nice summer evening for all.
Good luck to all other physicists. I have the Hawking film I've been looking forward to seeing - perhaps that would make a suitable extra end of exam celebration. Also World Gin Day tomorrow - I have a nice bottle of Hampstead gin, some tonic, lemonade, and lemons and limes all from LIDL
Envy That's a smiley lime honest but you can be jealous if you like!

dingit · 12/06/2015 11:38

Dd has just come home from school ( biology intervention) in a foul mood. She has to go in tomorrow for 20mins on a topic she thinks she's confident on. I've told her just to email her teacher. She's made lunch (!), and has taken it to her room to start revising straight away. Going to school has just added to the pressure and stress IMO!

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 11:40

Ha! Wine to all of you, and good luck Smile

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 11:41

dingit, what is a biology intervention??

LotusLight · 12/06/2015 11:42

I don't drink and don't even know their exam boards or which is an IGcse and which a GCSE in most cases.

dingit · 12/06/2015 11:44

Just a revision session Linerunner! ( think her academy are just trying to sound posh, - they are not ) Smile

poppym12 · 12/06/2015 11:55

Physics exam at 1.30.

He's still in bed. Awake but monosyllabic.

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 12:01

Lotus I knew nothing about the exam boards till this thread. But that wouldn't stop the Daily Mail. They seem to have a 'thing' about MNetters.

Anyway I really hope I haven't offended anyone. My post was meant to be just a light satire of the Mail. Although obviously I do personally drink like a fish. Smile

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 12:05

dingit, my DS's school have 'revision breakfasts'! Or as DS dourly puts it, 'A cold croissant and an hour of stuff we already know.'

I'm grateful to the teachers, though. They really have made massive efforts to get these kids in on time, fed, and vaguely alert.

Littleham · 12/06/2015 12:10

I would dearly love to see the North Korean / Gove theory in the Daily Mail.
