Only another week to go for DD, but I know some of you have two weeks.

Sugarplum I think that's a very sensible suggestion. However, before we start stock piling we need to be sure that we are only filling the wine cellar with the very best so bottoms up Wine

Fairenuff · 11/06/2015 20:54

Biology, history paper 3, chemistry physics ( in that order)

dingit snap! Ds has got exactly the same next week, with a day off on Thursday. He is going to be crawling in next Friday at this rate but at least the end is in sight.

I reckon we can keep the thread going through prom and maybe rejuvenate it nearer results time if anyone wants to post results or just come and chew over next steps.

LineRunner · 11/06/2015 21:06

bebumba you and me till the bitter end next Friday Wine

HSMMaCM · 11/06/2015 21:07

DD has spent the entire day in bed revising. It's about time she started to revise, with her final GCSE tomorrow Grin.

Just got her 16th birthday surprise to organise now.

Can I ask a really boring triple science question. I know that at the end they have separate gcses in each science. How do they award the grade. Is it done on all 3 parts, ie core, additional, further additional?

spudmasher · 11/06/2015 21:44

All the best to those who still have a week to go! EPIC!
Sugar, that sounds like a nasty incident. Hope it's all forgotten now.

We finish tomorrow. Printer finally gave up the will to live so DD only got some physics past papers when u got in from work at 7pm having naughtily printed them there. She's now beavering away on them

I'm incredibly proud of her. She's only done three days a week of school since year 7 and she's worked on and off throughout that time, earning herself a nice nest egg for the future. She's got herself a scholarship at an amazing college on a level 6 diploma which she can convert to a degree so she'll have no student loans once she starts her working life.

So maybe she'll only get Cs and the odd B......and she may fail a couple.....but I'm so proud I could pop.

auntpetunia · 11/06/2015 21:48

Ds has just said if you do core you get 1 science gcse, if you do additional your get 2 GCSES, if you do additional your get biology, physics, and chemistry GCSES. Does that make sense

LineRunner · 11/06/2015 21:53

Spud, that sounds amazing. Good for your DD. And you Smile

TheWoollybacksWife · 11/06/2015 21:54

Spud that is amazing. You should be proud of her - it's a fantastic achievement.

I dread to think what DD1's student debt looks like Sad. When I finished uni my overdraft was £400 and my dad was mortified - he'd never had any debt before. This was nearly 3 decades ago though Grin

spudmasher · 11/06/2015 21:56

Woolly, student loan came out in my final year and mine was about £400 too!
I still find it shocking that it's not free anymore.

TeenAndTween · 11/06/2015 21:57

dingit further to Petunia's reply.

How she said it is normal, but they could get GCSEs in Core, Additional and Further, but that seems to be much much less usual.

dingit · 11/06/2015 22:00

Teen, dds just told me (in that voice they use like you're a toddler), she gets gcses as core, additional and further.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/06/2015 22:02

Spud, that does sound amazing. There's so much more than just the academics (thinking too of Sunny's equestrian daughter - I think they've ridden happily off into the sunset now! Grin)

FM mon/Fri here too.

AuntP's DS is right about the sciences. I'm sure they must all have to be the same board for the single/double award, but if they do all 3 they can be different boards. DD's school did the Edexcel igcse chemistry(I think) but AQA for the other two. Some of them found the chemistry tough and were allowed to drop it.

Trufflethewuffle · 11/06/2015 22:05

DS2 finishes with Physics tomorrow.

DS1 finished ASs last Friday so there will be a few tense weeks in August chez Wuffle.

I must be a glutton for punishment as DS3 is currently year 10 so I'll be going through it all again next year. DD is currently year 8 so I really will be going through the wringer for the next few years.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/06/2015 22:08

Maybe how the sciences show up (c/a/f or biol/chem/physics) depends whether they do all the exams in the same year - so they could get core/additional by doing U1/2 in yr10 and have 2 gcses bagged, then get the additional the next year. But if you do all 3 x 3 at once you can get the separate gradings for each subject?

spudmasher · 11/06/2015 22:10

Wow, truffle! You'll be a pro! You should start a blog.....

Sidge · 11/06/2015 22:38

Don't go yet!

I'm with dingit, LineRunner and Fairenuff (apologies if I've missed anyone) with physics tomorrow, then biology, history, chemistry and physics next week.

So last exam the morning of the 19th, then her Prom that night, then I'm going to get drunk with DP Saturday whilst my girls are at their dad's for the weekend! I think I deserve it!

auntpetunia · 11/06/2015 22:48

sidge me!

TheCheeseAlarm · 11/06/2015 22:57

DS1 will still be going strong next week. B3, C3, P3 and two Further Maths papers should keep him busy. He's only had 3 exams this week; it's felt like a bit of a rest. There seemed to have been some mess up with controlled assessments though as he had to do one on Tuesday after C2, following a panicked phone call from the exam board. Physics tomorrow. Hopefully there won't be any nasty surprises after that.

Mellifera · 11/06/2015 23:05

We'll have two Further Maths exams next week too.

I just realised that my youngest DC will be doing GCSE in 2025 Shock

DD is still laid back and happy, especially about a Philosophy question that came up today in the science and religion bit about do we still need religion.
She's a profound scientist atheist

motherstongue · 11/06/2015 23:39

Sugarplum and Torres, I'll be joining you in 5 years with one finishing Uni and the other doing GCSEs. Had a bit of a taster this week as DD was doing form 6 exams as well as DS doing GCSEs. He is laid back to horizontal and takes everything in his stride whilst the wee one is a worrier. I think I'll have a much harder time with her during GCSEs when the time comes than I've had with her brother. Something to look forward to!!! I suddenly feel the need for a glass of wine whilst I contemplate this!

TorresTourist · 12/06/2015 05:46

I'll have a much more 'interesting' time with ds than dd I think, he's got quite a complex personality and is one of life's worriers.

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 06:10

I woke up stupidly early again. Last night DS said I should have a lie-in today, as Physics is this afternoon. I woke up at 5.30... Grin

This weekend will be dominated by Further Maths. The school entered a very small number of pupils for it, then kind of forgot to teach them any. DS claims he's going to watch some YouTube tutorials. Bonkers.

Sparklingbrook · 12/06/2015 06:14

Morning Line. I am awake too. Going out early for prom suit shopping after dropping DS2 at school. Weird first day of nothingness for DS1.

HSMMaCM · 12/06/2015 06:19

We'll definitely be staying here. Once the exams are over, we can look at prom photos and holiday photos. Then we can commiserate/celebrate exam results (and I'm expecting unashamed boasting from those who do well). Then we can compare notes on what happens next ...

Anyway ... DD is looking forward to physics today, because it's common sense apparently ??
