Aww, that's lovely word
Your boy looking very dapper too Horsemad
Boys and girls all looking set for a well-deserved party!

I hope everyone will take some opportunities for relaxation and celebration afterwards depending on what's on offer and their own personal style and preference Smile eg. DofE expedition has also been fab for dd Errol and wet suit sounds like fun too!

Horsemad · 24/05/2015 08:40

Word, I LOVE that dress! Smile

DS1 needs a wetsuit and I have no idea about buying one of those. Confused Any tips please Errol?

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2015 11:12

That dress is very pretty TWF - perfect for a garden party.

I don't know much about wetsuits other than they should fit snugly. The DC had shortie ones when they were younger. From Decathlon.

dingit · 24/05/2015 12:19

I haven't posted for a while ( but have been reading all your new, good and bad)
Could I ask if any of you have dcs that seem exhausted and lost the will to revise? I'm worried dd has run out of steam too soon!

Littleham · 24/05/2015 12:26

Yes - dd feels a bit like this dingit. It all drags on for far too long in my opinion.

We decided on a complete break from revision. None on Friday after the exam. Went into town for lunch / cake on Saturday. Eurovision with popcorn. Lie in until 10am today. She is lot more cheery and is working again.

If it is like this then best not to flog a dead horse. Go and do something fun.

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2015 12:42

DD was tired yesterday (went off to revise with mates but I don't think they got much done) got up 11.30 and has just gone to meet them at the library. I think they need a bit of a breather, but they do seem to be pacing themselves revising but not too full - on. Definitely agree with Littleham!

dingit · 24/05/2015 12:48

She went out after her exam on Friday with friends to the cinemas, then to her boyfriends. She tried revising yesterday, but ended up cuddled up to me watching a film/ Eurovision. Today she has been for a run, but still tired and struggling. I've told her to do as much as she feels like, if she's that tired, it's pointless, and nothing will go in.

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2015 12:50

That's right dingit. She has 7 more days before the next exams. Rest and fun mportant too.

BobOmb · 24/05/2015 12:50

Dd has gone off to comicon in London on her own. It's a bit nerve wracking letting her go alone, but exciting seeing her all grown up. No revision planned here until Tuesday. She's pretty confident about the exams in the first week back, so is having 3 days off!

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2015 13:10

What's comicon Bob?

SugarPlumTree · 24/05/2015 13:19

So sorry about your cat Lynette. We have the ashes of one of our buried at the top of our communal drive as the neighbours loved her too, under a beautiful Camellia.

Not a lot of revision happening here at the moment, figure DD needs a rest at the moment , we did Eurovision and pop corn too last night. Very smart suit Horsemad and WF, dress is perfect for a garden party.

OddBoots · 24/05/2015 13:32

Thank heavens for half term. I work in a pre-school so I am off too. DS's suit has been delayed so will only arrive a week before prom, I am so glad I ordered it earlier than I had intended, they said it took 3 weeks but it has been 5 so far and other 3 to go.

My previously independent 95yo Grandma has not been herself this week so we have been needing to keep a close eye on her, she seemed weaker yesterday so called 111 who sent an ambulance who couldn't find anything specifically wrong but took her in anyway. A call an hour ago from the hospital says she had a stroke this morning while there so she is off to CT and to have tests, my brother is on his way to pick me up for us to go to the hospital. I am doing my best swan impression, telling the children what is happening but keeping it low key for now.

BobOmb · 24/05/2015 13:33

Tilly - this is comicon

It's a place where overexcited teens gather in herds cosplaying - short for costume playing, basically fancy dress! Dd is very into it and has gone dressed up as a character in her favourite web-comic.

I went last year to see what it was all about and actually really enjoyed myself - there are some Q&As from people from obscure TV shows you can go to along with lots of stalls. Though it's mainly lots of people dressed up!

MEgirl · 24/05/2015 13:39

Maybe she'll bump in to my DTs Bob. They've gone off with a group of friends despite not going to bed until almost 1.30 this morning. DT1 has promised to do lots of Music revision this week. Not sure how well that will go without me sitting next to him all day long.

SugarPlumTree · 24/05/2015 13:43

DD would love to go to Comicon, it's on her bucket list apparently.

Oddboots, really sorry to hear this, can imagine how stressful this is for you. Please let us know how she is when you get back and offload here - important to get it all out if you feel you need to Flowers

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2015 13:51

Ok, looks fun - not on either of my DC's radar at all!

Sorry to hear about your Grandma, OddbootsFlowers

Littleham · 24/05/2015 13:56

Flowers Oddboots. Know how stressful that can be (having been through similar with PIL). Look after yourself.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 24/05/2015 14:16

One of dd's friends is into cosplay in that very serious yet trendy teenage way that makes you feel a bit old when you don't know what they're on about! dd went along to one of the meet-ups where she got to meet others who share her Night Vale obsession - don't ask me what that is either - some kind of radio station based thing? Grin

AutumnFades · 24/05/2015 14:18

Comicon is very popular here too :)

BobOmb · 24/05/2015 14:32

Yey - more cosplayers! Dd is into many animes. She's heard of Night Vale but isn't in to it. She would love to go to more met ups but as we're an hour away by train from London I've always thought it was a bit much to go on her own - I've tagged along to a few and then gone shopping when I've been satisfied she's safe. Now she's 16 she can go on her own (within reason)!

She was so fed up of the meet-ups only being London based and having no one at school to talk to about it that she started her own local group for the thing she likes. They now meet up regularly. She's a very quiet person but has really come into her own - it's lovely to watch.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2015 15:21

We all went to the Manchester comicom last year - I hadn't known what to expect but it was rather sweet and good natured, I think many rather gentle souls not quite at home in the brash reality of modern life. DD doesn't do cosplay but her 'calm you shall be and carry on you must ' yoda t-shirt fit the bill nicely. Grin this year it is going to be when we should have been on holiday but dh has a (probably minor) health issue which has forced us to cancel so maybe she can go either with friends or us.

Wetsuits- decathlon is quite good if you're average height but as DD and. I are both short we get ours online. There's quite a few companies and I've found that if you phone and tell them what you need it for and size they will give good advice - I think they tend to be actual specialist shops staffed by enthusiasts.

DD is plugging away, she revised U1 biology yesterday and a sixth of human geog today but is now doing a biology past paper. She'll probably call it a day after that.

LotusLight · 24/05/2015 20:08

Don't understand what any of those cos or com things are but it's good when teenagers have hobbies. I don't know what revision mine did today although one is asking to be woken at 9am each day presumably to revise so that's a good sign. Their worst exams - science (only doing double) and I think all of French are over so they've broken the back of them. They are both doing English lit and lang, maths, geog, history, 2 sciences (physics, biology chemistry), French and music. 9 which is almost identical to mine O level in 1977 except I did my music in lower sixth and I did German (but just physics/chemistry so one science). We found 2 months ago some of my old papers but I think it was mostly A level. Still it's interesting. May be when I next root them out I should put them online so people can compare then and now.

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2015 20:56

Phew Lotus - thought I was the only one who had never heard of them!

Yes it would be really interesting to compare then and now! It all seems much harder now to me, but that's probably because I have forgotten everything I learned the night before

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2015 22:19

Until last year I thought comicon was just a US thing which people like the Big Bang boys went to.
