19th here too for both DS (GCSEs) and DD (A2s) German and Biology for DS and World Development AS as an extra for DD.

Gin anyone?

LineRunner · 05/06/2015 13:21

Yes, what is this maths 'predicted paper'? We had a text last night about it and a revision thingy.

DS hates the revision workshops mind you.

LineRunner · 05/06/2015 13:22

Oh God yes Wine

mummytime · 05/06/2015 13:27

My DD thinks its sad that so many people have shown their dresses on facebook, so it won't be a surprise on the night. No alcohol at the prom itself, alcohol at the after prom parties, though... if DD goes - hopefully she'll go with her "sensible" friends. Fortunately she is popular enough to not be worried, but definitely not a "popular".
She's having a rest today, I gave her the list of predicted subjects, and need to ask if she wants to try to see her Maths tutor before Monday.

I don't suppose any kind soul could send the Maths predictions for Monday my way could they? just in case dd will listen to me

HSMMaCM · 05/06/2015 13:40

DD and her friends set up a special Facebook group for sharing prom outfits. I think she's quite enjoying the build up. She has chosen not to go to THE prom after party, but to have a smaller sleepover with her best friends. She doesn't generally drink, but tried a little Malibu at a cocktail party (!) during half term and said she quite liked it.

Sunny, hope you've had a better day today. If I were your DD I'd have probably felt the same re going to see my pony instead of doing Maths (note my name)Wink

How lucky is she to be be going to an equestrian centre? Very envious. My Dad discouraged me from working with horses as 'there's no money in it'. Would have loved to have a chance to do it. Sad

Horsemad · 05/06/2015 13:48

I know there's a Maths prediction thread on TSR, Littleham. Just waiting for school to email ours.

Eve · 05/06/2015 13:56

... see, there is a point to me knowing the email logon and password , other than for emailing forgotten homework .

If you let me know email address I will send,

tbtc · 05/06/2015 13:58

A follow up to my query (31st May - see upthread if interested) about DS's reluctance to go to weeklong induction at 3rd choice 6th form which starts the very day of his last exam.

I emailed the 6th form head and basically told her the truth about how DS was feeling and that he had other inductions, and asked for her advice.

She has sent a very reasonable response stating that it's important, that most students enjoy it and find it very useful, but that we should just let them know if he can't come to any of the days, which I read as "it's OK if he bunks off part of the week, but I am not going to explicitly state that". I have forwarded to DS and suggests he goes to a couple of days. That will give him a couple of days off after his last exam at least. If he's not willing to do that then I will tell him he needs to withdraw his place - it's a two way thing.

ono40 · 05/06/2015 14:04

If anyone could post a link to the maths predicted paper I'd be grateful as the school just let them get on with it (sorry, "encourage independence")!

LineRunner, I agree about our parents, my mum had no idea I was even taking O levels, there was certainly no cooked breakfast or any special concessions (although to be fair I was child no.4 so I expect all sympathy had run out by then). I do remember there being a bomb in the garage across the road the night before my physics O-level and me being cheesed off that we were evacuated until it had gone off (this was Northern Ireland in the 1980s!) and my mum told me to get over it.

Eve · 05/06/2015 14:10

ono40 , pm me your email address and I will send

ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2015 14:18

I told DD there were predicted questions for maths and she gave me a look and said that people should have learned everything before paper one anyway. Fortunately she generally manages to avoid saying things like that to her pals.

She did say that the cuboids of cheese q was probably the examiners little joke because it was Cheese Day yesterday, so we were wondering if there were any other special days in the next couple of weeks. Not that it actually affects the maths involved!Grin

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/06/2015 14:20

Could you send it to me too Eve?
I'd be very grateful Thanks

OMG This biology exam is only an hour long? Hope dd is racing through those questions. From her revision it seemed to cover so much. I hope she's doing herself justice. I did mention timing several times yesterday and this morning. Fingers X

TheWordFactory · 05/06/2015 14:41

Re Hannah's sweets. DD wondered why she just didn't eat then all!

LineRunner · 05/06/2015 14:46

Yes, biology is just an hour. DS will be home soon, unless he's been forced into maths revision workshop which he was planning to avoid - he prefers to revise alone.

Horsemad · 05/06/2015 14:59

Biology: 'OK, not amazing but not horrendous either,' according to DS. Going through his book afterwards he thinks he's dropped a few marks here and there, so hopefully not done too badly.

Littleham · 05/06/2015 15:02

Same reaction to Biology here Horsemad. She attempted all the questions apart from the thalidomide one (she couldn't remember what it is used for now). But only counted for one mark so all is not lost.

switchitoff · 05/06/2015 15:08

Goodness, your DCs are very speedy at getting feedback to you about the Biology exam! Didn't it only finish at 3pm? I always take DS' mobile away from him on the day of exams (due to a horrendous incident at the school a couple of years ago when a child's mobile bleeped in the exam room and he was disqualified) so will have no idea how he's done until he comes home.

Have a relaxing weekend, everyone! We're on the home straight now.

smoothieooo · 05/06/2015 15:08

DS also said biology not horrendous but not great and was glad he'd revised plant hormones (taught in year 9). Usual gripes about never having been taught some of the topics (although he had a go at the q's). Those required 6 x A / A*s needed to stay on at 6th form are starting to look a little ... unlikely. It would be a shame but not the end of the world if he had to move

Horsemad · 05/06/2015 15:20

Switchitoff, I collected him from school, his exam finished at 2pm. He never has his phone for exam days either, leaves it at home or in my car.

Littleham, DS also missed the thalidomide Q!

smoothieoo, hope get gets his grades, I really have no idea how bad/good DS has done, sometimes he's not good at giving detailed answers, even though he knows the stuff! Hmm

Sidge · 05/06/2015 15:24

dingit DDs dress is red too! She looks stunning in it, she's having to practice walking in heels though as she normally lives in her Wonder Woman Converse Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2015 15:28

switch, the AQA biol is just unit 1 so that was just an hour (its an hour per unit so 3 if they're doing triple science). DD is on the bus home, don't know how she found it yet.

She said that one of the lads at the boy's GS had a phone go off in an exam - she said that means he is disqualified from all exams from that board, not just that one! Shock TBH seems terribly harsh for what is most likely to be absentmindedness. She said that if a switched-on phone is found on you then same applies; a switched off one, or your phone goes off in the box they have in the room to put them in, then you're out of that exam. Not sure if that's accurate.

CandyCrushLoco · 05/06/2015 15:36

Apparently it was easy, unlike the maths yesterday.
