DS said chemistry was "Hard at the beginning, but after that it was OK"

No idea what that means. Confused

Is there a revision paper for foundation maths? My friends DD is on her third resit and seems to miss out on a C by a couple of marks each time. I would be grateful if someone could point me in the direction of some hints and tips for her.

In other news DD1 has just rung me after her exam which she said went well. I can't believe that's her finished at uni.

Thanks Gin - also MrM and Eve
These mock papers can be the basis of dd's Maths revision this weekend
That's my plan anyway - of course being 16 she may have other ideas!

Mock paper for maths calc: click below -

www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3380397

Scoot down to the bottom of Mr M's first post (contains all the answers to the first non-calc paper) and he's put a link to a newly created mock paper covering what he believes will be in the calc exam (he's a assistant Headteacher and pretty amazing guy!)

Gosh that does sound harsh about mobile phones ringing Errol
You'd think disqualifying from that subject would maybe getting the balance about right? Surely that's bad enough? And I hope schools do all they can to help students check - maybe check through pockets together systematically? May sound extreme but if it's that important? I do feel for him and hope he has plenty of support around taking the affected ones again

So glad Biology was an improvement on the Maths. Fingers crossed BTM will be on later saying her DD found it OK.

I suggested to DD she might like to do some Maths revision, she looked like I'd asked her to eat the cat and shortly after dramatically was taking Nurofen and saying how ill GCSE's make her. Thank goodness this time next week she will be finished and I have a 5 year break until DS. He is far more an exams person so just hope it will be a less stressful time,

DD won't take a phone with her on exam day as is very disorganised and terrified of takin it in with her to an exam by mistake.

Some good new from the SPT household. Text from DH earlier, his probationary period is over and he will be getting a permanent contract.

At DDs school her Biology paper didn't start until 1400 and was an hour long. Some schools seem to start the afternoon papers at 1300 but hers seem to start at 1400.

Apparently it was easy, unlike the maths yesterday.

switch, the AQA biol is just unit 1 so that was just an hour (its an hour per unit so 3 if they're doing triple science). DD is on the bus home, don't know how she found it yet.

She said that one of the lads at the boy's GS had a phone go off in an exam - she said that means he is disqualified from all exams from that board, not just that one! Shock TBH seems terribly harsh for what is most likely to be absentmindedness. She said that if a switched-on phone is found on you then same applies; a switched off one, or your phone goes off in the box they have in the room to put them in, then you're out of that exam. Not sure if that's accurate.

dingit DDs dress is red too! She looks stunning in it, she's having to practice walking in heels though as she normally lives in her Wonder Woman Converse Grin

Switchitoff, I collected him from school, his exam finished at 2pm. He never has his phone for exam days either, leaves it at home or in my car.

Littleham, DS also missed the thalidomide Q!

smoothieoo, hope get gets his grades, I really have no idea how bad/good DS has done, sometimes he's not good at giving detailed answers, even though he knows the stuff! Hmm

DS also said biology not horrendous but not great and was glad he'd revised plant hormones (taught in year 9). Usual gripes about never having been taught some of the topics (although he had a go at the q's). Those required 6 x A / A*s needed to stay on at 6th form are starting to look a little ... unlikely. It would be a shame but not the end of the world if he had to move

Goodness, your DCs are very speedy at getting feedback to you about the Biology exam! Didn't it only finish at 3pm? I always take DS' mobile away from him on the day of exams (due to a horrendous incident at the school a couple of years ago when a child's mobile bleeped in the exam room and he was disqualified) so will have no idea how he's done until he comes home.

Have a relaxing weekend, everyone! We're on the home straight now.

Same reaction to Biology here Horsemad. She attempted all the questions apart from the thalidomide one (she couldn't remember what it is used for now). But only counted for one mark so all is not lost.

Report
Horsemad · 05/06/2015 14:59

Biology: 'OK, not amazing but not horrendous either,' according to DS. Going through his book afterwards he thinks he's dropped a few marks here and there, so hopefully not done too badly.
