DD seems to have been doing a lot of 'resting' this week and I've been out working so have left her to it. She not the type of gal who can be cajoled/threatened - she has to do it under her own steam, which she has done so far. Big exams coming up though, bit scared she's not as prepped as she could be. Did a maths test paper today and got a 'middle B'. Her target is A.

dingit · 29/05/2015 08:48

I never thought I would say it, but thank god half term is nearly over!
Dd did quite a bit yesterday, and will do some today, then going out about 4. Tomorrow she is at school for a history drop in. Sunday will be full steam revision.
Anyone else's dc doing History USA paper on Monday ( not sure which board)?

OddBoots · 29/05/2015 08:56

DS is doing Edexcel history, he has an 'International relations' paper on Monday - it is partly USA as it is Cold War related but probably not the one your dd is doing.

DS is in school today doing 4h of maths, he has a full day tomorrow with another 4h of maths and 3h of science. It does feel a bit of a waste of time with the maths as he is very good at it already but he enjoys the sessions and he intends to do what amounts to 4 maths based A levels next year (maths, FM, phys and comp sci).

He was in school for 4h of English yesterday which seems like time well spent, he isn't as good in English.

dingit · 29/05/2015 08:59

Wow 4 maths based A levels. Thud! Grin

tbtc · 29/05/2015 09:08

My DS is doing that edexcell history paper on Monday. Revision is going on as I speak. Hoorah!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/05/2015 09:29

We've got history on Monday too - I just looked on list and apparently it's OCR board and mainly WW1 under an International Relationships theme

So dd planning on history revision on Sunday but still looking at other subjects today and tomorrow as hoping to cover some of everything during this half-term week. Think she was doing some maths papers yesterday and maybe some geography.

Hoping ds and I can get out for a bit today but at least ds has plans to meet up with dh early evening for a spot of birdwatching in local country park, and we have managed a few meet ups with friends over the week. Wish I could have persuaded dd to do something sociable at some point too. Think she'll be glad to see some friends on Monday even if it is just going in and out of the exam room!

Fairenuff · 29/05/2015 09:32

Ds also has Edexcel history on Monday but his is Option B, Crime and Punishment and he says it just relates to the UK.

He's stuck to his school timetable all week, doing 5 hours a day but does intend to have the weekend off. I've said that's ok, he needs to rest and is desperate for a lie in Grin

He will have Saturday off completely and look over his history and biology on Sunday.

Am actually glad we're getting back into it now, this has dragged on for so long.

SodiumReindeer · 29/05/2015 09:47

We've gone from DD working too hard to a day out prom shoe shopping, a sleepover and now a planned day out at the cinema. Hmm, I can't help thinking that this not good timing - she did no revision last night either as she stayed downstairs and watched BGT with us until she went to sleep and that never happens

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2015 10:32

Fairenuff, crime and punishment sounds an excellent choice - would love to know Wat it covers! I'm not sure which board DD is doing but it's 3 papers and I think Mondays is Medicine? All of the History choices sound way more interesting than what I did - British and European Politics 1792 - 18 something. All delivered by teacher reading from banda'd notes. Yawn.

LotusLight · 29/05/2015 10:53

Mine have history coming up too and the international relations thing.
One has gone on a walk to his friend's house in the rain but thinks it would be really strange to take a rain coat or take an umbrella. The other is cooking bacon and eggs.

canny1234 · 29/05/2015 11:27

Mine's been sleeping 12 hours a night and still looks pale and heavy-eyed.She works steadily all day ( after a midmorning start) and the has been watching Britain's Got Talent with us in the evening. The level of impetus she started with has been impossible to sustain.I'm wondering whether she has peaked a little too early.Business Studies I think on Monday.

Prom dress has been altered but is still too big so my Mum has taken it to be realtered and is now on holiday for 2 weeks.Prom is in 3 weeks which probably means it won't be done on time and we will have to buy a new one.Mum organised the first alteration.<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Confused" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/confused-DVrVQwAF.png">
SodiumReindeer · 29/05/2015 11:34

canny what a nightmare about the prom dress. DD is trying hers on later on and I just hope it fits - she's suddenly got taller if the length of her school skirt is anything to go by and has bought 4 inch heels to wear with it so she won't be able to walk on prom night

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/05/2015 11:40

dd has a black dress she's planning on wearing for the prom and some nice but high looking black shoes to go with it. She found both in local charity shops which she has enjoyed browsing for a while now. So am glad she has something she's happy with and impressed by her independence and initiative. Can't help thinking something brighter might be nice though - she looks so lovely in bright colours! I couldn't help mentioning this - saying how lovely the dresses for her Irish dancing were. And she said yes those dresses were nice Mum. So I suppose that convo with teenage dd could have gone worse Grin Looks like dd will be making the dress choice though!

dingit · 29/05/2015 11:56

Juggling all dds friends seem to be wearing navy/ grey, so I hope she's not going to feel ridiculous in her bright red! It's also short, and most of the others are long. Starting to panic now that we need an alternative!

tbtc · 29/05/2015 12:00

We are still to get DS's prom suit. PANIC!

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2015 12:22

No prom dress here - she has her eye on getting a dress if mine altered (need to ring your recommendation spud!) but she wants to check the shops first. I fear it will be a last min job.
Juggling your DD sounds fab sourcing her outfit in charity shops.

spudmasher · 29/05/2015 12:26

She'll certainly have a look at it for nowt BigTillyMint!
Praise be, it's raining!!!

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2015 12:38

Yes, I need to ring her and get DD to come with me for her to give us an idea.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/05/2015 12:59

Thanks Tilly - thinking she can be rather fab Grin Where's the Mother's Pride emoticon when you need it - Hey HQ how about a loaf of bread?!

  • Though obviously we have our teenage moments here too.

Don't panic for the Prom anyone - it's all to enjoy and enough to panic about for the exams!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/05/2015 13:23

Oh and ds managed to arrange a swimming trip with his friend and has just been picked up by friend's grandpa. Result!
Might go and catch up with Loose Women on +1 Smile Brew

LotusLight · 29/05/2015 13:27

Mine without the coat came back wet but happy. His friend and he had an exciting time on the bus with a man doing a sit in (he only had cash which is not accepted), the driver refusing to continue, everyone turfed off, new bus came.... then some youths drawing obscene pictures on the bus windows and dropping litter, every other word a swear word apparently. Sounds as useful a learning exercise as GCSEs I suspect.

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2015 13:31

Lotus, sounds like a normal day in LondonGrin though I have never actually seen any youths grafitti'ing in 28 years!

SodiumReindeer · 29/05/2015 14:10

dingit DD's friend has a red prom dress.

Ashbeeee · 29/05/2015 16:13

DD has a bottle green duchesse satin 50s style, with sliver accessories, bought shrewdly from ASos in post Xmas sale. Cheap!! Have been looking at some of the other dresses, some are beautiful, some err a bit on the 'sex worker' side of things though and as liberal as I am I don't think I'd be happy with DD going out in it. There's plenty of time for slutty dresses when she's older Confused

LotusLight · 29/05/2015 16:25

They were drawing a penis on the window - to use my son's exact words.....
