New thread for those of us starting the exams.

Keep calm everyone.

Ds cannot wait to be finished with English either. He is counting down to Friday.

TranquilityofSolitude · 20/05/2015 16:41

My DD was doing EdExcel Physics P1.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2015 16:41

Haven't heard from DD - it could mean that she's still in there, it looks like her phone's not on. Fingers crossed she's OK. I very much doubt she'll be saying it was OK!

Takeaway planned for Friday night - half-way through mark! Not sure what the celebration will be at the end, hopefully she can fit us in for a meal out.

Ginandtonictime · 20/05/2015 16:47

AQA IGCSE triple here - physics paper was tough - questions on refractive index which I know he didn't know ... but he gave it his best shot (we all knew today was going to be toughest of the three)

Exams finish on 17th June - he's having a 16th birthday party at home on the 19th! 80 teenagers was the last count ... that'll be quite enough celebrations thank you very much shudders at the thought can't wait!

Fairenuff · 20/05/2015 16:49

DS did Edexcel Physic P1 and said it was 'unusual'. He said the questions were not very clear but that probably just reflects his own revision Hmm

However, he also said he got the same answers as lots of others so maybe more went in than he thought.

LynetteScavo · 20/05/2015 16:54

I've only had a grunt from DS1, so no idea how Buisness Studies and Biology went. Confused

They're the only two subjects he did well in in his mocks, and he doesn't want to do either for A'level, so won't have been worried about them.

Off to buy food as he seems to be eating non-stop!

QOD · 20/05/2015 16:59

Business Studies and Physics were great apparently!
We're off shopping Saturday to buy a posh watch as a mid way we'll done for trying so hard gift

funambulist · 20/05/2015 17:04

Edexcel Physics P1 for my DS. He said it was odd and that there were some strange questions. He doesn't seem that happy about it so I didn't like to press him on it, especially as he has Maths tomorrow morning.

BobOmb · 20/05/2015 17:08

Just found this thread!

So far dd has had ICT, Geography, 1st English Lit and Biology (units 1,2,3)

The ones she was most worried about were Eng Lit and Biology, but she seems to have been very lucky with the questions and none of the stuff she didn't know came up and everything she did know did!

All in all she's been very laid back considering - she even seems to be enjoying herself. I think she's just glad it'll soon be over.

Next up is Eng Lit on Friday. Then a whole half term of learning all of Chemistry and Physics, they haven't finished the syllabus yet and they're not going to either...

My heart goes out to you and your daughter Woolly.

funambulist · 20/05/2015 17:09

Fairenuff those discussing Edexcel Physics P1 on The Student Room seem to be in agreement that it was a hard paper and are talking hopefully about lower grade boundaries as a result.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2015 17:13

DD didn't want to talk about it and went straight to her room, so I guess not as well as she would have liked/a complete disaster. It was AQA triple P2+P3.

At least no exams tomorrow, Eng Lit on Friday.

Fairenuff · 20/05/2015 17:18

Oh, thanks for that fun, hopefully they did enough to hold their own on a tricky paper then. Fingers crossed.

He said Business was easy and everyone had finished within half a hour, even though they had 45 minutes.

Is that good or bad? We really can't tell. Onwards up upwards. English Lit on Friday, the dreaded poetry paper and then that's it, study leave until the end of school.

Welcome to the thread Bob Smile

SoupDragon · 20/05/2015 17:18

DS said physics was "quite easy". I think he did iGCSE exexl 1P

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 17:19

Everybody's DC dreading this poetry paper then on Friday? My DS hates poetry. All poetry.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2015 17:21

DS muttered something about an odd question to do with a kitchen and hazards.

He just has maths tomorrow and that's it til after half term.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2015 17:24

Fairenuff, is your DS finished with everything?

DH told me all subjects on same day, regardless of exam boardConfused

TheWordFactory · 20/05/2015 17:28

DS said maths was 'fine' and physics 'pretty good'.

DD said physics was 'okay.'

So that's a detailed analysis from Casa Wordfactory.

LotusLight · 20/05/2015 17:31

My 2 found physics edex "okay", not that easy. That is the last of formal science for them today ever although I hope all their lives they remember what they know and apply it.

It sounds like WF and I both have twins doing GCSEs.

They are apparently "looking forward" to maths tomorrow morning ... although not doing the A level.

auntpetunia · 20/05/2015 17:31

Well ds text me to say." I thought physics was dead easy but everyone else said it was hard! What does that mean???" I told him to ask the teache ....bottles out of that one. He's just come in saying miss said it was easy if you remembered it was only core. That's physics Edexcel paper 1 out of the way. Nothing tomorrow and then English Lit 2 on Friday.

Woolley hope your dd is ok.

TheWordFactory · 20/05/2015 17:33

lotus yes twins.
But at differents chools so different exams and boards etc.

Fairenuff · 20/05/2015 17:39

No BTM he has 16 more to go yet!

But he will be on study leave so only going in for exams. I must ask him about revision sessions as I'm sure there will be some running but whether he will want to go to them or not is another matter.

The poor child has really outgrown his school tops and all of them have a little rip or fray somewhere that can't be patched up Blush

I've offered to buy him new but he says he'll cope for these last few weeks and save me some money. We'll be glad to see the back of uniforms forever but I have had to stop looking at photos of him in his first ever school uniform as it's making me feel sad.

What a numpty I am, how can I miss him when he's right here? Confused Grin

funambulist · 20/05/2015 17:43

Fairenuff I guess you miss the little boy you had. I was looking at my two teens and an almost teen yesterday and thinking that it seems such a short time since I had two toddlers and a new born.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2015 17:45

Ah!

Yes, I am a numpty too - often get a lump in my throat when I think of them as teeny, especially DD. There is a little girl (18months/2yrs?) that I often pass in the mornings on my way to work who reminds me of DD at that age and I have to take deep breathsBlushGrin

TranquilityofSolitude · 20/05/2015 17:45

DD said there was a "weird graph" in the 6 mark question at the end of P1. Discussion with others from school suggest that the questions were worded in an unusual way, so it seems as if experiences have been quite similar. DD loathes physics anyway - the main emotion here is relief that P1 is over!

titchy · 20/05/2015 18:06

Physics (AQA I think) was ok here too, although the 6 mark question was on stuff they'd done in chemistry rather than physics Hmm (what is an atom). Latin tomorrow then poetry - will remind her to write about sex if that's what she thinks the poem is about!
