New thread for those of us starting the exams.

Keep calm everyone.

I casually mentioned the question on last page issue after it first arose here (on a paper she didn't do) and she said that about it saying 'end of questions' too, but also she checks the page numbers - she had two pages stick together in one of her yr6 sats, fortunately noticed when checking through.

funambulist · 20/05/2015 13:09

tbtc my wave goodbye is a bit like that. DS stands with the car door open wearily resigned as I reel off the exam instructions.

Trouble is I know so many scare stories from other parents. I know a boy who didn't turn over the paper and didn't see the questions on the back, a boy who turned over two pages at once, a girl whose paper was missing pages and my own DS once misjudged timing so badly that he failed to complete the last 20% of a paper. I feel like I'm holding my breath for the duration of each exam. I don't know what my DS has planned but several parents I know are planning their own celebrations once the exams are finally done.

Littleham · 20/05/2015 13:16

My dd now gets in first and reels off my list of instructions perfectly, followed by 'have I missed anything?' Grin I still have this superstitious need to tell her even though I know it is getting on her nerves.

CoffeeBeanie · 20/05/2015 13:20

Littleham, interesting. DD said it was a real fire, somewhere in a science lab, which are right next to the hall.

She was a bit confused timewise after they went back in and couldn't finish her conclusion. I hope the exam board will take it into consideration.

If I reeled off exam instructions DD would blow a fuse Grin

We have planned a day out in London with a meal on the weekend after the last exam. Can't wait.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/05/2015 13:24

Have just dropped dd off for physics this afternoon.

On the way it started hailing and was very loud on the car bonnet and roof - dd said Oh no, it would be very annoying in the exam room - like being inside a giant bag of popping popcorn Grin

Good luck to all - I think dd's going to need it especially for Unit 3 or so she told me - I think some questions could be better than others so fingers crossed X

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 13:26

Horsemad It was Edexcel

Horsemad · 20/05/2015 13:27

Chinese takeaway here for end of GCSEs and a meal out for end of A levels, followed by a weekend away for DH & I !! (both DC having trips abroad shortly after the exams finish)

Horsemad · 20/05/2015 13:27

Thanks Amazing Smile

TranquilityofSolitude · 20/05/2015 14:48

Just back from Physics. Lots of calculations, apparently, which my DD does not enjoy, but otherwise OK. I think nearly everyone else on here is doing a different board, though.

LotusLight · 20/05/2015 14:50

Our 2 hour physics ends in an hour. If there are a lot of calculations the twins love that (best bit) although I think physics is second only to chemistry and even below the dreaded French in terms of their not being very good at it. It is their last science exam of their lives (as they are doing double not triple) today) unless they fail and have to redo.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2015 14:55

Which is she doing, tranq?

Not sure when DD started hers - U2&3 (AQA) so two hours, probably not quite done yet. Doubt we'll hear anything till she gets home anyway.

HSMMaCM · 20/05/2015 15:05

Dd finishes at 3:30, then she's off to maths revision.

Funambulist i like your approach, however, i think i am just going to face hus scorn and ask if he looks at the back of pages! I think our children are being very patient with usGrin

funambulist · 20/05/2015 15:08

My DS's Physics exam ends in 25 minutes but we are both so concerned that he might accidentally bring his phone into an exam (instant disqualification he's been told) that he leaves his phone at home whenever he has an exam. Unfortunately this means I have no idea how the exam has gone until he gets home.

Yesterday he said someone's phone did go off in an exam, but it only rang once, so I don't think that the invigilator could tell whose it was.

Doobydoo · 20/05/2015 15:16

Ds leaves his in his bag i think. His dad has gone to collect him for 3.15.Even though it is only 30 mins earlier than usual,He does have a longish bus journey though.I feel nervous for him for Physics as he isn't confident in a particular area and suddenly he decided he does want to do it for A level....as he wants to study Astro Physics. He said he would not let one area put him off....I think thaat very mature....I am still not that mature Grin

bebumba · 20/05/2015 15:18

Ds doing Physics as well today, hope it has gone well for everybody. He will be late back tonight as he is staying behind for extra English Lit revision in prep for Fridays poetry exam which he is not looking forward to.
Friday is his last full day at school as after half term he will only go in for exams and those lessons where here he is still to take exams.
Really proud of how he coping with exams at the moment and his attitude to revision. My ds is definitely becoming more mature. :)

bebumba · 20/05/2015 15:19

Like you Doodydoo ds will soon be more grown up than me :)

Doobydoo · 20/05/2015 15:20
Grin
ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2015 15:36

'soon be more grown up than me'
Grin Ain't that the truth. Though DD still has a few sweet moments when she reverts to being my little girl. Not during physics exams though!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2015 15:46

She just rang to say she's on the normal bus. Apparently it was 'brilliant - well, it was physics'. I guess it's a marmite subject.

Littleham · 20/05/2015 16:01

Just got a text from dd to say Physics exam was 'Great!!!' (she likes Physics). She did the paper with lots of calculations.

Needless to say I won't get the same reaction about English on Friday. Grin

tbtc · 20/05/2015 16:04

DS said Physics was easy. It's his best subject so that's all OK.
He missed the bus but thankfully he's getting a lift home with a teacher who passes through our village.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2015 16:26

littleham - forget who's doing which board, mine has the AQA poetry - 'relationships' I think. So hopefully a day of revising the anthology tomorrow and then she'll gladly be shot of Eng Lit (in her view the one pointless subject) on Friday.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/05/2015 16:28

I think we were lucky with Physics - dd says the longer question was on the only subject she knew from Unit 3. Hmm, that's a bit worrying ... but glad you're happy and feel it worked out OK! Smile

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 16:35

Physics went well here for DS too. Phew!
