Oh no Dingit Sad That length of time really intense in a foreign language.

It is DD on the dress, she is really pleased with it thank goodness.

Littleham · 01/04/2015 21:42

Love the dress SugarPlum.

Wine to everyone finding it hard to motivate their dc's into revising. Not sure that dd3 achieved a lot today. The cold bug has arrived.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2015 21:52

I suppose if they've got to get a cold, better now than later.

HSMMaCM · 01/04/2015 21:53

DD climbing the walls about maths mock in the morning.

Wine HSM. The advice on here about Rescue Remedy, deep breaths and reading the Q's three times helped DD.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2015 22:56

Oh dear - hope she calms down and gets some rest.

auntpetunia · 02/04/2015 07:34

Ds up again at 6 physics bite size today no more mocks today thank god. He's just waiting on an easter plan from school which is due today. Then I am letting him have a few days off over the bank holiday weekend. Good luck everyone else.

TheWordFactory · 02/04/2015 07:52

HSM thoughts with your DD. Mine also worries about maths; definitely her worst subject.

Teacher's advice is go through the paper skipping any that look difficult, then go back later when you've nailed some questions, that way panic doesn't rise and you don't end up spending too much time stuck.

DD has French speaking as her big job today. She's prepared about forty answers to probable questions and her teacher emailed revisions last night. So today she wants to learn them.

I'll be testing her methinks.

HSMMaCM · 02/04/2015 08:27

Thanks. She's gone now. I've told her to read the questions 3 times and not to get stuck on questions she's not sure about. Failed to buy the rescue remedy in time, but never mind.

Fingers crossed for her HSM. I keep forgetting some of them haven't broken up yet.

TheWordFactory · 02/04/2015 11:20

Me too.

DD broke up last Thursday.

For those still in school, how long do they get off?

swazza · 02/04/2015 11:28

Hello. Can I join in please.

Am doing this for the first time with eldest DD.

She broke up from school last Friday but was away until Monday. She has 3 weeks off, which is lovely as since we moved house in January she has been boarding and we miss her terribly (not sure she misses us as much)!

She has been told she should be revising at least 5 hours per day. She came home with her own revision timetable. It starts at 8am every day and allows one hour for each subject with half hour breaks between and 2 hours for lunch - to help allow a bit of leeway - in case she sleeps in etc.

She is allowing herself weekends off revision completely. So far she has stuck to it. This morning she has tackled Latin, Biology and is now on To Kill A Mocking Bird notes for Eng Lit.

I feel a bit peeved our holidays and precious time together is very limited due to her revision but am not complaining as I am just so so so so relieved and glad she is actually knuckling down. I have to say though, we live so far from her school and as we are new here she has no real social distractions, although she is very close to her younger 13yo sister. Who has so far not even glanced at her very minimal holiday homework!

No prom for DD. All the prom stuff is done in sixth form, so no clothes shopping needed here.

TeenAndTween · 02/04/2015 11:29

Ours get 2 weeks off, so not back until 20th (or for DD 21st as Inset). That leaves only 3 weeks until first exam.
DD had last French speaking CA this morning, she texted it went fine apart from wandering into Spanish at one point!

Hope the maths goes OK

TheWordFactory · 02/04/2015 11:36

teen I expect it's quite common to mix up two languages.

TeenAndTween · 02/04/2015 11:50

Word I think so too, especially has she has the same teacher!

Fairenuff · 02/04/2015 12:12

Hope dd's mock goes ok today HSM, will she be able to text you at lunchtime or something?

HSMMaCM · 02/04/2015 12:17

Should get a text sometime soon. She went straight into a drama assessment after the exam and then she has french this afternoon. You'd never guess it's an inset day today Grin.

It was a calculator paper and apparently they're easy !!!

TheWordFactory · 02/04/2015 12:40

swazza I must admit to being a bit peeved that we are missing an Easter holiday ( we always go away). And I made it pretty clear to DC that I would not be happy if, having made that sacrifice, they pissed around!

HSMMaCM · 02/04/2015 14:09

Got a text:

'Maths was ok. Drama was fab'

bonkersLFDT20 · 02/04/2015 14:18

My son is doing about 2hrs revision a day and insists this is enough.
He got a bunch of A*s, As and a couple of Bs in his mocks so I think I just have to trust him that he's on track.

MummiUni · 02/04/2015 14:40

Well I am in the same club as Bananas and Draylon. today DS has agreed to 2 x 30 mins of revision so he sets the timer for 30min, then goes to the loo then starts to 'revise'. His 30 minute session includes coming down twice to see how much time he has left to do! Not exactly a quality session!
He is predicted all As and A*s, but he is going to be disappointed in August.

bigTillyMint · 02/04/2015 15:42

HSM, that's great!

Welcome to newcomers - there seems to be a whole range of revision strategies/times. I agree, I am trying to trust DD and be encouraging and supportive. And am crossing my fingers!

spudmasher · 02/04/2015 15:57

Can I join in? Been lurking for a while and empathising with many!
Shhh.......dd is ACTUALLY revising and has just asked for flash cards and some new pens.....a breakthrough!
In addition, prom dress was decided upon and ordered last night, and it was in the sale, half price. Bonus.

SugarPlumTree · 02/04/2015 15:59

Good news HSM Smile

Welcome to all newcomers. I am a bit gutted about no Easter holiday as would have liked to visit Family abroad. But this is more important. Thing is though we'll be knee deep on AS revision next year and A2 year I guess.

With the revision I am doing the same as BTM. DD is now talking more sense about revision strategies so fingers crossed. She has just gone round to see friend's DD for a Maths lesson.

We need a new printer, ours is rubbish and struggling with printing past papers.
