Anyone's DS doing Hampton 11+ on 5 Jan?

Just trying not to get anxious as I know the children pick up on it. Not doing much work for it now, as we did the Tiffin test in October and he worked very hard for that, so most of the work has been done already. The school just seems such a good match for him. I really want him to get in. Gah!

FWIW DS did this - was ill all over Xmas and not even able to speak on 'the day' to tell us how it had gone (a boy who talked non-stop since he could speak). He got a scholarship, and we still don't know how.
Just let him get on with it, and all will be as it should be. Good Luck!

Thank you Dontgo. Just feeling jittery about it all tonight. I want it all to be over. He's going up for Latymer Upper the following week, then I will relax.

Just out of curiosity, would you prefer Latymer or Hampton? We are also trying for those 2 (and a few more) but they are our favourites.

Bazelle originally I thought DS would better suit a mixed gender school as I thought he is so sweet and immature that the girls would mother him Blush. I went to a single sex school and somehow learnt that boys were exotic creatures from another universe. I wanted DS to know that actually the opposite sex are just human beings! But on visiting both schools instinct just took over. Not wanting to use him to right the wrongs in my life, I just went with what felt right for him, and this is a sporty school and a boy who is not at all sporty! I liked the chat I had with the sports teacher in the gym on the tour who said that they work with whatever level they're presented with and take it from there. Of course any good school would do this, but I was reassured by his attitude. I can see my boy fitting into the F team very well! Also the school seems to have a great maths department, and DS is really enjoying his maths just now.

With Latymer I am less certain about the overall atmosphere of the school. More urban, more savvy, I think my boy might not manage to keep his head above water socially. Not a huge negative though. I will certainly take up the place if he gets in there but not Hampton.

Yes difficult. I think I prefer Hampton slightly. I am more worried about the interviews now than the written exams per se. This is all very stressful. I can't believe we will see the end of this marathon soon. Good luck

Hi folks - wondered how your ds found it? We are in same position and now just have to wait .... Cross fingers, toes and everything else!

Pop1ns · 07/01/2015 06:34

Heard on the grapevine that the maths was full of puzzles and quite difficult.
Any ideas on numbers?

Contessa28 · 07/01/2015 06:52

Did your ds sit it? My ds didn't manage to answer 3 of the maths questions (but who knows!!!) ... Found vr ok and enjoyed the comprehension and writing, although he might have enjoyed writing the story a bit much ... He was telling me about it on the way home in great detail and if they are after something sensible then I don't think that's what he wrote! Sounded a bit crazy, but then it's too late now...Will at least show his creative side I'm hoping!!! What do you mean by any idea of numbers? Were a lot of people there.. Would guess around or over 500

Gummibaer · 08/01/2015 14:24

My ds also sat Hampton on Monday and found the maths quite tricky. Wonder when we'll hear about interviews? Good luck to everyone!

amidaiwish · 08/01/2015 16:48

word in the playground is that the maths was very hard this year.

oliviaaah · 08/01/2015 16:51

My DS didn't get near finishing the maths. I'm hoping that it was designed that way.... At least the wait is quite short now.

Would completely make sense to have maths that it not possible to finish - when my DS did entrance exams a few years ago, we were (later - when he was offered place) told that it was impossible to finish - they wanted to see how resilient DC plug on and get as far as they can...

Contessa28 · 08/01/2015 21:04

that's good to know! Anyone had a call back? I know its early, but just wondered if calls for the early interviews had started yet. I'm just not very good at waiting! Keep us posted and good luck to all!!! Out of interest where else have your DS been sitting exams?

Contessa28 · 08/01/2015 21:28

agh! Just realised DH has 'misplaced' Hampton letter so I now have no idea for when things are supposed to happen... if anyone could enlighten me would be MUCH appreciated! can't remember when the calls/letters are due to be made? thanks x

Gummibaer · 09/01/2015 09:21

Contessa, the booklet says that interviews start today and continue until 27th January, with results posted on 12th Feb. To our surprise ds is invited to interview next week! Not sure what to expect but fingers crossed... Good luck to everyone else!

Contessa28 · 09/01/2015 11:03

Congrats gummibaer well done to your ds! Great news! Good luck x

butterfly308 · 12/01/2015 19:54

Gummibaer, congratulations for receiving a call for an interview.
My also said that the Math paper was challenging but he tried his best and finish it.
Still waiting for the call....could you share your son's interview experience please?
All the best and good luck for your son and all the boys going through the 11+ process
:-)

Contessa28 · 12/01/2015 20:03

Yes good luck all! Any idea how many sat it this year? X

Waitingandhoping2015 · 12/01/2015 21:07

About 600 sat Hampton.

oliviaaah · 12/01/2015 22:01

Anyone off to Latymer Upper tomorrow? We're hoping for an interview at Hampton but nothing yet.... Good luck one and all. I'll be so glad when all this is over.

how did your DS interview go gummibaer? Best of luck! Anyone else heard anything?

minoula · 13/01/2015 22:04

Hi I shudder at the mere memory of it all! My son was offered both these schools last Feb. Now at Latymer. Good luck to all and happy to impart anything I can remember about interviews etc if any help?

Contessa28 · 13/01/2015 22:23

Thanks Minoula! So good to get views of those who have been there!! It's the waiting... Don't suppose you can remember about when the letter or call for the interview took place? DS (and me, but mainly him! Really!!) desperate to know if he has a chance! He found the exams ok and much better than the 10+ last year... But maybe competition so great that doesn't mean a thing! Also did your DS have a general or subject specific interview! Sorry for all the questions! I do have other things to do and think about... Honestly!!! Did you just try for Latymer and Hampton or any others? Keep telling myself will know for certain in only (!) a month!
