Anyone's DS doing Hampton 11+ on 5 Jan?

Just trying not to get anxious as I know the children pick up on it. Not doing much work for it now, as we did the Tiffin test in October and he worked very hard for that, so most of the work has been done already. The school just seems such a good match for him. I really want him to get in. Gah!

Haven't heard anything, didn't really expect to by now, but will let you know if and when!
Reeds system is better imho, do it all on one day including interview then send out a letter on a certain date.

minoula · 13/01/2015 23:14

Hi yes the waiting is the worst for sure!

I remember last year we got the invite letter for Hampton interview while ds was at the Latymer exam. But they send the interview letters out in batches according to schools. In ds' school there were about 6 or 7 that were asked for interview at Hampton and we all had the same day and time.

By the way, ds did not finish the maths paper either, but as there is no separate scholarship paper, it has to be extended to identify potential scholarship candidates. Its the same with Latymer.

So I guess there is no worry that you haven't heard anything re- interviews yet. Only if there are any others at your school who have!

I think he had a general interview there. It was about his hobbies / interests, why he wanted to come to Hampton, fave subjects at school - nothing too off the wall. It was all very friendly as I seem to remember. While the boys were in their interviews, the head takes all the parents into his office and gives a whole spiel to sell the school to you! But we were very impressed with that head tbh.

Its a fantastic school but we always wanted Latymer as ds is a co-ed type! Sldo did Ibstock and KGS and he was offered places at those too.

Will ask him tomorrow if he can remember anything more specific from the interview!

Contessa -I think you will know either way about Hampton interview very soon - today or tomorrow.

When ds1 sat 4 years ago we too got the Hampton letter the same day he sat the latymer exam but there was one more day between them then (Tuesday and Thursday that year iirc whereas Monday and Tuesday this year).

Minoula, yes please! any feedback re interview at Hampton is very welcomed

Hellokitty71 · 14/01/2015 19:52

Hello, late to the discussion and my fingernails are now bitten to the quick! Any body else heard from Hamptons yet re interview? Thank you x

Contessa28 · 14/01/2015 20:47

Nothing here! Out all day tomorrow so will miss the post! Pls let me know if anything hits the mat!!!

minoula · 14/01/2015 21:22

Butterfly -it's all creeping back a bit.
At the Hampton interview they asked the following according to ds -

What do your parents do (!?!?)

Why do you want to come to this school. What other school have you applied to and is this your first choice? ( would advise saying YES to this, even if it's not)!

What are your favorite subjects at school and why?

What are your hobbies?

If you could travel somewhere, where would that be and why?

......and now for the "think on your feet question"......

What do you think makes a good lesson in a school?

I think that was pretty much it (he was only in there 15 mins or so). No maths or English questions which was good.

Hope this helps and good luck to all!

Post at last!

Invited to Hampton interview. Relief all round.

Contessa28 · 15/01/2015 09:55

Fantastic well done to your DS and you must be delighted!! Thanks for letting us know ... Good luck to all!! Ps waiting is it general or subject specific?

Waitingandhoping2015 · 15/01/2015 10:09

Just general according to the letter.

SonorousBip · 15/01/2015 11:25

Interesting re being asked a question about what your parent's do, which I frankly think is a bit out of order.

When my ds had an interview there a couple of years ago he was apparently asked where his parents went to school, which I was very Hmm about. As a question in isolation - there was no follow up about where we went to university, what jobs we did, etc - its hard to see what they were trying to elicit with that question.

Contessa28 · 15/01/2015 11:29

Thanks for the update waiting... I ended up popping home to check the post and delighted that DS also has a general interview! Very relieved and over the moon! Good luck to all and thank you for the hand holding!

Gummibaer · 16/01/2015 12:49

Good luck to everyone, for those of you waiting to hear and for the interviews. DS had his this week and it was quite challenging with quite a number of problem solving type questions and puzzles, but it was all very friendly and he seemed to come out pretty happy. Now waiting for the letter in February! Fingers crossed for all!!

Contessa28 · 20/01/2015 14:32

Hi gummibaer... I guess that was for scholarship? In which case huge congrats! Ds has his interview this week, we are doing no prep, he will be himself and they can then judge if school is right for him? Sounds sensible right? Hmm good luck to all

Gummibaer · 20/01/2015 22:07

Contessa, yes it was. I wouldn't worry about preparing too much for the interview - there aren't really right or wrong answers, and the interviewers are probably just looking for an interesting, interested and enthusiastic candidate. Wishing your ds best of luck!

Waitingandhoping2015 · 21/01/2015 09:56

Got an invite in the post to the all-rounder skol testing on the 30th which is good news! I don't think it is indicative of how well he did in the exam though, he may have only just passed or passed comfortably I guess.

Contessa28 · 21/01/2015 10:30

That's great waiting! If he has been called for scholarships that must mean he is in? They surely wouldn't interview for scholarships without him passing and coming top amongst the scholarship applicants? Congrats!

Waitingandhoping2015 · 21/01/2015 10:37

I don't think that's the case, I suspect that anyone who passed and who applied for the all rounder award would be invited but I don't know.
Worse case scenario means he's getting to show his all round ability in relevant areas - in this case cricket, football and music - in addition to just talking about them at the interview. So it's like an extra leg to the interview if you see what I mean.

So I'm making no assumptions just yet!

Waitingandhoping2015 · 22/01/2015 11:31

Best of luck with your interview contessa. Ours is not until Tuesday 27 and the assessments Friday 30 which should be fun.

Contessa28 · 23/01/2015 13:18

Thanks waiting and good luck! DS found interview very enjoyable (!?!) just a general chat about interests, hobbies, favourite subjects and no real curveball questions. HM was great and saw all parents collectively and answered questions... Then welcomed children in and congratulated them all for having done so well in the exam. Now just have to wait!! Worst thing is he doesn't get an offer now as he REALLY wants to go there!

Waitingandhoping2015 · 23/01/2015 14:09

Sounds good, hope it works out. It must be pretty harsh on a child not to get an offer at this stage, ie after interview when you have been told how well you have done and passed the exam etc. Roll on next Tues and Fri then the wait Smile

Contessa28 · 13/02/2015 11:33

Hi all good luck with the post today! Very proud and over moon as DS got his offer for 11 plus at hampton which we will definitely take up! All the best of luck to all x

Waitingandhoping2015 · 13/02/2015 11:56

Well done Contessa! We got the offer this morning too with and all rounder scholarship award so pretty pleased with that. He's still weighing up the choice between Hampton and Reeds but as far as I'm concerned (and I'm sure he will be to) it's Hampton all the way.

Gummibaer · 13/02/2015 12:45

Well done Contessa and Waiting and good luck to all others - we too got an offer this morning!

Unclebulariashat · 13/02/2015 13:00
