Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

My DN has had two offers so far, Manchester and Bristol. AAB from Bristol for psychology, not sure of Manchester. She's also looking at Newcastle and Southampton.

Bristol is her fav so far.

Roisin · 26/10/2014 19:02

We've never heard of the Philip Allan magazines hellsbells.

Roisin · 26/10/2014 19:07

Sorry, that's rubbish. ds1 reads the Biological Sciences Review at school: he says it's v good. ( but expensive to buy an indiv subscription.)

hellsbells99 · 27/10/2014 06:38

Thanks Roisin!

hellsbells99 · 27/10/2014 06:40

Great news TeaAndALemonTart! My friend's DD did psychology at Manchester and rated it highly.

MissMillament · 28/10/2014 12:21

Well done to Littleham and Atia's DDs and LemonTart's DN.
DD has had her third offer now - ABB from Nottingham, which is the one she really wanted so she is over the moon. Still has the Oxford exams to do next week, but less stressful now as she likes Nottingham just as much.

Littleham · 28/10/2014 12:28

That's great MissMillament! It will take all the pressure away for your daughter.

MrsBartlet · 28/10/2014 13:12

Excellent news, MissMillament - well done to your dd.

Horsemad · 28/10/2014 13:22

Great news MissM!

cathyandclaire · 28/10/2014 13:32

Well done MissM, great news!

hellsbells99 · 28/10/2014 16:49

That's a great offer - excellent news MissM!

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/10/2014 17:12

Brilliant, Miss M's dd! Definitely nice to have some pressure off Smile

mumslife we went to Cardiff on Saturday and dd loved it. The accommodation was good, lots of choice and it's all near the uni and the town/shops. Does your dd know that the inventor of daleks comes from Cardiff? There absolutely must be a Dr Who society there!

MrsBartlet · 28/10/2014 18:00

Just posted this on the Oxbridge thread as well. Dd has just had an offer from Exeter for English but she is really disappointed as they are asking for AAA Shock Until last year the standard offer was AAA and on the website it says A*AA- AAB for this year. Very odd - no idea why they would give her such a high offer. Any idea, anyone?

Littleham · 28/10/2014 18:08

MrsBartlet - Does she have really high predicted grades? Perhaps that is why they have done this.... Seems a bit mean! Is it her favourite?

MissMillament · 28/10/2014 18:12

MrsB that is shocking! Worth posting on the Student Room to see if anyone else has had such a ridiculously high offer perhaps? Your poor DD.

MrsBartlet · 28/10/2014 18:12

She is predicted 3 As (although I am not sure that she will get that by any means). Cambridge is her top choice and Durham her second. I don't think she will get a Cambridge offer but hopefully she will get a Durham offer. Their offers would be AAA. We looked at Exeter as a likely insurance place (along with York) as until recently they both had standard offers of AAA.

Littleham · 28/10/2014 18:15

I reckon they are trying to force your dd into putting them as her Firm. Nasty!

MrsBartlet · 28/10/2014 18:28

Instead, I think she will be rejecting them!

boys3 · 28/10/2014 18:59

MrsB, what none of us know, but would all dearly love to know, is how Exeter select who gets what within their offer range. IMO to the difference between an A* and a B is pretty big. Speculation only, but is there a contextual element coming into play that consider type of school, or perhaps more correctly school performance that an applicant comes from. Slightly more out of left field they've slipped slightly in the league tables for English (although still well inside top ten) and seems to be due to quite a bit lower average achieved entry standards than those above them, so perhaps a strategy to boost that?
