Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

DD1 has been doing past papers for maths over the last few days as they have finished C3 and the first 'mock' is tomorrow. Although she is currently playing the piano whilst the rest of us are trying to sleep!

fairycakes333 · 20/10/2014 23:52

hellsbellsmy dd had her C3 mock exam last Thursday gets her results tomorrow??. This maths they are doing looks like a different language to me arabic springs to mind??

MrsBartlet · 21/10/2014 06:40

Great news Miss Millament!

The talk of ds starting revision already has me worrying as I am struggling to get dd in school at the moment. She missed a lot of school in Y11 (27% of the year!) due to an illness which led to psychological issues. She had labyrinthitis which kept her off for over 3 weeks. When she went back she was ok for a week and then we thought it had returned. However, it turned out that being back in school was causing her to have panic attacks that she was going to be dizzy and nauseous again and she felt claustrophobic being in the classroom or school hall as she felt trapped. Having just been ill for a few weeks at the start of this term (just with cold/flu type thing) seems to have set her back so she is having a lot of anxiety about being ill in school.

Going to wake her up now - fingers-crossed that I can get her to school Sad

cathyandclaire · 21/10/2014 07:28

Brilliant, well done •MrsM• and her DD! I went to the English talk at Warwick and it was so fantastic I wanted to sign up myself there and then! Dd has applied for the joint English and Theatre but I think they interview so will be a loooong wait!

cathyandclaire · 21/10/2014 07:30

Hope your dd is okay Mrs B, it's such a stressful time and with illness too it's even more difficult... Not long to half term, time for a few lie ins Grin

MrsBartlet · 21/10/2014 07:32

Thanks, cathyandclaire. Dd has applied for English at Warwick but we haven't been. Just going on reputation and we will visit if she gets an offer.

webwiz · 21/10/2014 07:48

Hope she feels better soon MrsBartlet DS certainly isn't revising I would be happy if he just got on top of what he is supposed to be doing. Looking forward to half term for a bit of a break.

Horsemad · 21/10/2014 08:35

Hope your DD is ok MrsB. It's that time of year when the bugs are most prevalent and it is so mild!

We have a D&V bug in a local school (not ours, so hoping it doesn't travel!)

I keep wishing it was next Oct and this school year was over and done with. I know I shouldn't wish my life away, but with one doing A levels and the other doing GCSEs, I am feeling the pressure!!

Bad family planning there! Smile

Thanks all. She has gone to school but I have had a lot of texts saying how ill she feels as she hasn't eaten much for days. I think this could be IBS brought on by stress. She did look thin this morning and her school skirt was very big on her. Anyway, her lesson this afternoon has been cancelled so she can come home at lunchtime.

mumslife - head of sixth form and I have been trying to have a phone conversation since the start of last week and we keep missing one another. I will try him again now.

Littleham · 21/10/2014 10:37

Hope she gets better soon Mrs Bartlet.

I'm slightly worried by all this revision / preparation! My dd hardly has any lessons this week (only two afternoons) and every time she turns up for the EPQ lesson, it has been cancelled. No revision sessions or mocks. She has the whole day at home today & it is hard to self motivate this early.

Still waiting for other universities to reply. I noticed that York and Exeter are starting to give out offers.

hellsbells99 · 21/10/2014 10:37

Half term break will hopefully help MrsBartlet.
Horsemad - I don't want it to be this time next year as DD2 is currently in year 12 so I will be going through the whole thing again!

circular · 21/10/2014 13:09

Well done to your DD MrsM and hope your DD OK MrsB.

DD also recently finished maths C3, had mock last week. Not sure what past paper it was, but majority of
her set got 40 to 50%. That's set 2, mainly B grade predicted.

MissMillament · 21/10/2014 13:35

Your poor DD, Mrs B. Hope she is fully recovered soon.
The English talk at Warwick was excellent. DD is very lucky to have her offer already as it seems the joint honours applicants don't have to be interviewed as the English/Theatre/CW applicants do.

fairycakes333 · 21/10/2014 14:57

mrs bartlet labyrinthitis sounds such a deblitatiing illness I had to google it as I've never heard of it. But can only imagine how it must effect your dd day to day life must be hard for her to concentrate. Hopefully half term will bring some relief for her and that school has been understanding.

MrsBartlet · 21/10/2014 16:47

I had never heard of it before dd got it fairycakes333 - I thought it sounded like a made-up illness! I don't think she has it this time though - I think this is just a bug or IBS. She has made it through this morning at school but I have to say she doesn't look great.

MissMillament · 23/10/2014 10:29

Hi Mumslife
DD has been to Cardiff. She went with DH so I haven't seen it myself, but she didn't like it because it is not a campus-style university like Nottingham or Warwick, which is what she prefers. I have friends who went there who loved it though - it sounds very lively and social and brilliant for the outgoing types which DD is not!

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 23/10/2014 11:50

DD1 isn't doing any revision at all so far as I can see. :( She has a music thing next week, and also grade 8 singing coming up, and she is spending all her time practising (not for the singing, to be honest, apart from learning the German words for her german song and the french words for her french song - languages are so not her thing and she has attacked the issue by doing it all phonetically - all the practising is going on the Thing and I think she peaked a while ago and is now heading down the far side of the mountain. At speed.). I think she might be coming to the conclusion that if she gets into a conservatoire then her grades just won't matter so much - which is all very well but it's just so insanely competitive, so she does really NEED decent grades to get into a decent fallback university should the conservatoire thing not work out. At her school, they are supposed to have long lead times for all homework to enable extra curricular stuff (most of the kids have long school journeys) but it's a bit hazy whether that applies in the 6th form. When she was given a quite hefty 'tomorrow' task on a day when she has her first study lesson and doesn't get home till nearly 8pm, she asked for extra time and was told she should be thinking about cutting back on the music at this stage!! Sigh. Still, at least she hash't had 1 day off sick this half term, and when you compare that to last year that's just amazing.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 23/10/2014 11:53

mumslife DD1 will likely apply to both the cardiff conservatoire and cardiff uni. It's good for her instrument, it's in a lovely place, and it's comparatively accessible to us (which isn't true of most of the other likely places). There are also other reasons why Cardiff is the de facto mecca de nos jours for such as we, and I do suspect that this has influenced her too. so many happy memories of visiting the rift and taking photos of the Ianto/Torchwood memorial!

hellsbells99 · 23/10/2014 19:11

Hi mumslife. DD went to cardiff earlier in the year. She really liked it and has put it in her final 5. They appear to guarantee accommodation for firm and insurance which is a bonus.

hellsbells99 · 23/10/2014 19:28

DD has had her ucas form returned a couple of times by school for changes. Looks like she can't put her actual grades on for 2 of her AS exams as she is retaking a module in each so she has put them as pending. This is a bit of a pity as she got an A and a B in them but is retaking a module to try and boost the final marks.
