Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

Does anyone know what fee we have to pay for UCAS? I have just looked on their website and it says £12 for one course or £23 if you are applying for multiple courses. Dd will be applying for English at 5 universities - does that count as multiple courses? Sorry if I am being dim but I am very very tired and can't think straight!

circular · 17/09/2014 20:52

mumslife Say here you can apply for finance from Feb 2015 but should apply by May 2015 to get money through for start of course. deadline is 9 months after start of academic year.

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 20:54

Crikey, I'd forgotten about the finance! That'll be the next thing...

circular · 17/09/2014 20:55

MrsB Its per choice says here so £23

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 20:57

MrsB - it's 23 for 2-5 courses.

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 20:58

MrsBartlet · 17/09/2014 20:59

Thank you circular - I told dh that mumsnet would come up with the answer! We need to pay our fee by Tuesday so that school can then do their bit. It all seems a bit real now.

MrsBartlet · 17/09/2014 21:01

And thank you horsemad! I started a new job a couple of months ago and my feet have hardly touched the ground since. I am struggling keeping on top of all this UCAS stuff as well as learning how to do a new job and managing working full time for the first time since I went on maternity leave with dd.

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 21:05

You are right about it all seeming a bit real now, MrsB. They sort of hit the ground running in U6, don't they?!

They really do. Dh had to go and collect dd this morning as she was feeling ill. I think she is just exhausted already. It does worry me as she was ill with labyrinthitis (sp?) in Y11 which caused her to miss about 25% of the year.

On the positive side, she is starting to see things on facebook from friends in the year above who have just started at university and she is realising that it looks like a lot of fun. She has had an ambivalent attitude to leaving home up until now. She is keen to do the course but not that bothered about student life etc Hopefully that will change over the next year.

boys3 · 17/09/2014 21:24

fairenuff just the UMS on the UCAS form. Seems slightly unfair as is a DC who is just one mark of an A grade really that different from another who just made the A grade boundary? Hopefully however predicted grades from the school / sixth form can give the proper context. Cambridge ask for specific UMS scores by module for those who apply there, not sure anyone else, apart from Oxford (?), does though.

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 21:34

From what I've read, I don't think Oxford ask for UMS. I may be wrong though!

horse you are quite correct, they don't (having just educated myself on this :) )

boys3 · 17/09/2014 22:13

but, having now read beyond the first line on their website Blush, will give them consideration if provided.

MrsBartlet · 18/09/2014 06:35

Ah mumslife - I didn't think of the reverse, that they might start posting about being homesick!! Let's hope not.

circular · 18/09/2014 07:24

DD has a few yr13 friends, but said none have started Uni yet. Seems to be 27:9 for most of them. Do sone start much earlier then (or have 2 week freshers) ?

Horsemad DD also being incredibly fussy, but with her it is reluctance to leave home.

hellsbells99 · 18/09/2014 07:55

A couple of DD's friends started at Manchester last weekend. I think Birmingham and Sheffield are this weekend.

Littleham · 18/09/2014 09:02

I know Exeter was last weekend. My dd1 goes to Bristol this weekend. We cannot walk across her bedroom as there is so much stuff.

Thankfully she has her room until July, so we don't have to move it again at Christmas and Easter. She is looking forward to it - only worry is the drinking culture that seems to be rife (but hopefully it doesn't unclude everyone).

Littleham · 18/09/2014 09:02

include !

Have friends with freshers who have gone back to Leeds and Swansea this week.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 18/09/2014 11:59

The Freshers are certainly back at Exeter :(
