Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

There is an article about rogue marking today. Either this has happened to your dd, or something completely sent her off track in the exam (which happens) or the school didn't cover the syllabus (which also happens). The script should give you the answer & you can plan from there. If it possible, there are some good revision courses around.

tonguebiter that is awful, although your DC should still be within the timescales to re-mark / challenge. DS1 just competed A2, his school had a lot of surprising (not in the good sense) marks for AQA English Lit at both A2 and AS with a lot of remarks going in. In his case an additional 46 UMS marks added from the re-mark (just for context the paper offered a maximum 120 UMS), so taking the paper from one mark above an E to 1 mark below an A, and given he had 100% for the coursework element already, an A overall. It will be worth whatever effort is needed to get to the bottom of your DC's result.

AtiaoftheJulii · 14/09/2014 18:53

A friend's daughter got a U in an A2 paper, bringing her overall grade down to a C. They got a copy of the script back, teacher went through it and said he would have given it a B - sent it off for a remark, no change. HoD has also looked at it now and agreed with the B, and the teacher has convinced them to appeal.

It's unsettling.

From an examiners mouth....

Thank you for all your suggestions and info. Five papers were sent back with a view to sending them all back. I'll definitely ask for her script.

We have sent a history exam back too, Mumslife. Ours was AQA - which exam board was yours? DD got a C in the exam despite getting 100% in the mock so it seemed like it was worth a shot.

Oh God, DS has just text ME asking if he's doing any resits as they have to submit today. He is truly hopeless.

This is going to be a verrrry long year.

MissMillament · 17/09/2014 10:17

Oh dear Horsemad, I feel your pain. I struggled to get DD to talk to her teacher about getting a remark in History, and eventually just made her get the form and do it anyway. Getting her to focus on whether to resit or not is almost to painful to contemplate.
Mumslife we were AQA and she got a high B overall so is worth getting the remark I think. All her preferred universities will want very high grades so she needs to pull in every UMS she can. (Or think about other universities.)

Mumslife - no she wants to do joint honours English/German, but will need AAA for her top choice and AAB for two of the others. Finall two are ABB. All of them need an A in English but she is looking ok for that.

Gah! He got it wrong and meant Re-marks not Re-sits!! Hmm

What is he like?! I will be demented before long Grin

circular · 17/09/2014 18:18

At DDs school, RE-MARK deadline today - maybe thats the confusion.
RESIT deadline in January.
Though teachers have been asking, Physics running a lunchtime class for the AS paper that many are resitting.

Decided no re-marks worth it here. Have scripts back to see where she went wrong and will resit Physics mechanics and Maths S2.

circular · 17/09/2014 18:19

X-posted Horsemad Grin

circular · 17/09/2014 18:20

That was meant to be Maths C2 - not even taking S2. Bloody fat fingers.

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 18:38

Lol circular. He's not getting anything re-marked, despite only being 2points off a B, the Head of Chem said it's not worth it as she felt he'd been given the benefit of the doubt on a couple of Qs,
He's been predicted A in Maths, B/A in Chem & B in Physics.

Still got 5 more open days to do

circular · 17/09/2014 18:45

Horsemad that sounds like a lot of open days?

I think DD is becoming less fussy as her options are running out.
We have 2 more booked, but not sure we will do York.

Beginning to feel we are the only ones without a whiff of predictions.

Fairenuff · 17/09/2014 18:46

Dd was four marks off an A. Got it re-marked and picked up 3 more points so now only one mark off an A. Do they put the actual ums points on the UCAS form, or just the grade?

Fairenuff · 17/09/2014 18:49

No predictions here yet circular but we have parents evening in two weeks so dd thinks they will firm it up there, make sure teachers, parents and students are all in agreement.

They have asked her to predict her own results and she's gone for AAB.

(ABB on AS but, as I said above, now only one mark off an A so it seems realistic).

I'm not sure whether to ask if she could be predicted AAA as it might help with offers.

circular · 17/09/2014 18:49

Fairenuff I think its just the grade - you can check if you get her to log in.
I think school reference can mention it if you ask them to, especially if predictions need justifying.
At least she got extra points, so slightly less to make up next year. Smile

Horsemad · 17/09/2014 19:51

circular, yep a lot of open days. He is fussy! If you listened to him whingeing, you'd think he didn't want to go to Uni; in actual fact he says he can't wait!
Sometimes I think the more choice you have, the harder it is to decide.
