Do you ever wonder which school your school head sent his/her children?

Recently, I got in an in-depth conversation with my DS's head of school ...and he mentioned where his children went to school. I always assumed that the head's children would go to some of the most academic schools ! I would love to know where your school heads tend to send their children?

We are a comprehensive area- they go to local comprehensives.

I have friends who are Heads, their children have all gone to comprehensive schools.

Ha! DD's headmaster send his DC to the local comp.
It just so happenedHmm that he lived on the other side of town so his DC were in catchment for the best school in the area and not in catchment for the underachieving, un-aspirational one that he ran.

They all go to their local catchment schools along with most of the other children. Most of the local schools are excellent so the people who send their children elsewhere do it for reasons other than education.

Forgot to mention, my DS is at an independent school. Given the 11+ competition for getting into top indies ...I asked the head who was keen on boarding schools (as he and his wife were boarders) where his kids went. Surprisingly their children did not follow their boarding footsteps....G&L being one of the selected schools. I often wonder if their inside knowledge and network gives them the upper hand in certain schools !!!

My dd's head sent his dcs to the school I teach at, because that's the catchment they lived in. They moved there when he was the deputy at my school, and it seemed stupid to move them just because he was moving jobs.

The head of the school I teach at sends his dcs to our school, along with the dcs of the 2 deputies. Parents' evenings are fun when the head sits down opposite me for an update on one of his kids.

There are only 164 grammar schools left so most Heads are not in the right area. I don't know any Heads who like them anyway. The comprehensives in our area are very good.

Our HT, Deputy HT, county director of education and several of the ordinary teachers sent their DCs to my very ordinary comprehensive.

No real choice there weren't any other secondaries for 8 miles one way and 13 the other and ours was probably the best (just).

I had the director of education's and three class teachers DCs in my class. Never bothered us. I just felt sorry for the physic masters DS because his dad always told him off for doing nothing much. Mind you he tended to do the same to me, he was a bit grumpy.

HTs DCs were younger and I didn't know them. Deputy's DD resat her A'level science with us and she was lovely.

I am definitely more prepared for the head and the deputies when they sit down. It helps that their dcs are pretty well behaved and in "nice" classes.

DDs head teacher sent her kids to local RC school then at P6 (Scotland) sent her kids to private day school. DSs head teacher at prep sent his kids to boarding school, DSs secondary head teacher - I've no idea.

His child goes to the same primary as mine, and will be starting at the same secondary in September.

I have no idea, but I know ds's head of year sends all her children to the school (pretty ok comprehensive). Oh and ds has one of his other teacher's children in his tutor group.

There are no grammars here, thankfully. Lots of fee paying schools, though. I imagine some state school teachers send their children to them, but I don't know any personally.

Ours sends his son to his school, the local grammar. His son is in the same year as DS2, it's rather amusing watching him going round at parents evening. :)

DD's HT has 3 kids at a community primary school where he lives & has publicly stated that he intends them to come to the school (state) where he himself is HT when right age.

Not sure where his kids went, but 2 of the Head's grandkids are at DC's school. It is a comp in an area which has defined catchments as its first priority for admissions. The area includes some naice detached houses and quite a run-down social housing area.

The league-tables illustrate its demographic intake, all kids make progress but the results put it in the middle of the table.

When my husband got his headship we were advised by the LEA not to live in the same borough, so we lived in the neighbouring borough and our children went to the local comp.

for goodness sake they are normal people doing a normal job not some kind of hallowed figures with access to an exclusive network.

Not HT but they teachers I'm friendly with at DD and DS schools (we knew them before the kids went to the school, one is DS godfather!) both had kids at the school at which they taught at the same time as mine were there.

Its a SS grammar and the kids went into the 11+ exactly as everyone else and got in on merit with everyone else.

Indie wise it's different as they often have fee remissions for teachers kids, though the selective still require exams to be sat etc

wow are you really suggesting that parents have the same grasp and access to the info on schools that teachers & heads do?

I would expect people to have more in depth knowledge of the industry they are in than those not in it

the teachers send their kids to their catchment schools where they live, like all other parents

many heads do not live in their own catchment : if nothing else because they change jobs and their children go up through the school system
