Waiting for DS1's Gcses results on 22nd of August. He did really well last year but, all the talk of moving grade boundaries has got me worried. Fingers are very tightly crossed for maths as this is the subject he struggles with most.

My DS got 9 A*s, 1 A, 1 B - the A was for English language too

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 22/08/2013 12:52

DS said he missed two As by less than 7 points. It's pretty shit really. But it is what it is. He's perked up a bit and is relieved that he doesn't have to study half the subjects ever again! He knows that he fucked up on a few papers, and, bar retaking his maths, he's actually looking forward to getting stuck into to his A level choices.

If anything I think this is a kick up the bum for him and he will rise to the challenge.

DD got 2 As,5As and 4 Bs. Delighted with the A in History as she thought she'd messed it up big time, and now got the confidence to do History at A level.

I'm welling up a bit now - she was really downbeat about how they went, so I am so pleased to see her happy! She's off to Leeds festival with her mates this weekend; they will have a fab time!

All over for another year!

Shanghaidiva · 22/08/2013 13:03

DS got a B in iGCSE mandarin with 84 marks out of 100 (marks are on website). Can't imagine what the grade boundaries are for A and A. Perhaps 99 out of 100 for an A
DS disappointed at first, but has cheered up since.

Your poor DS Hepsibah, sounds like he's overcome adversity and done really well.

Shanghaidiva · 22/08/2013 13:12

Agree coconutty
I was saying on the other GCSE thread that 84 would probably been an A back when I took my O levels 30 years ago. Grade boundaries today are bonkers!

Abysmal! And she has been refused entry to sixth form at her school :( no idea what will happen now, all local colleges require 5+ gcses and she won't consider doing anything but the courses she wanted (of course), gah!!!

mumslife
my dd got A in Eng Lang, she got mark equiv 251, points 52
she is also diasppointed as her friend got 56 marks & an A*

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2013 13:50

DD2's Art was the only real surprise too. She got a B, but was predicted A or A* - I suspect she didn't do enough work on her scrapbook tbh.

my son is starting Art for his GCSE's - I am beginning to regret this choice on his behalf :(

celticclan · 22/08/2013 14:15

mumslife how can 4A, 6B and 1C not be good enough for 6th form? Your dd has achieved good results.

NigellasGuest · 22/08/2013 14:19

Is the points for 6th form thing the same across all schools?

muddymarvellousdarling · 22/08/2013 14:29

Ds2 has done very well for him. A/Bs + 2 C

He's got into the sixth form he wanted to go to, so all happy here. Smile

Now I can get him to sort the rest of his bedroom out, without feeling i'm piling on the pressure. Wink

GredandForge · 22/08/2013 14:31

The points come from the grades - to work out predicted A level grades etc. So they get 46 points for each B, 52 for an A and 56 for an A*.

What is significant is the UMS score - the adjusted marks. You should be able to find out where the boundaries lie for each module they were submitted for and how each 'raw' score is converted to UMS points by googling.

My class got lots of As but fewer As than j would have expected, particularly in English Lang. I've noticed a signiicant number of them have come out with 269 UMS points; they needed 270 for an A. Coincidence?

magentadreamer · 22/08/2013 14:35

DD has done bl*dy fantastic. DD has always struggled with English and has had some "interesting" results in previous English Exams. Today she managed to pull off a B in English Language and amazed us all by getting an A in English Lit. Her first words to me when she rang was " Mum I got an A in an English exam" She had thought about doing foundation English Lit as she didn't think she'd get a C grade on the higher papers. Given DD's history with English exams I can not thank her Teacher enough for getting her throw it all.

Her other results were at or above target, so very proud and relieved here.

Sparklegeek · 22/08/2013 14:40

DS1 (Year 10) got 359 UMS in his Science. Needed 360 for A* Angry Currently undecided whether to apply for a re-mark.

Advice needed here please?
My DD is 2 marks off an A for Eng lit - is it worth a re-mark?
