Getting more and more nervous here.

Thinking especially about the Emanuel, KCS and Ibstock (well, have not done the exam for that yet so really just the first two...)

and PureQ, you are hardly the worst mum in the world when you are striving to give your DS the best education in the world....

if it's any consolation I felt like i was sending him off to the gallows when my DS sat 10+ last week at Kings.......

good luck with the last exam tomorrow, the end is in sight...... and am sure you will get good news soon.

Thanks tomtommum. I've heard from another source that they've only done scholarship calls this week so, yes, it may well apply to 11+. Whilst there's hope ...

PureQ, I know exactly how you feel. I was a total mess earlier for the same reasons and then felt like I'd failed DS even more because although he's a naturally clever boy, he's untutored and from a state school which from what I've heard and seen over the past few weeks doesn't give him a chance Sad. I have been feeding my babes pizza and icecream tonight and letting them OD on digital stuff. Good luck tomorrow. It feels good once they've finished.

Ds is just doing whatever he wants tonight. He has a massive pudding of blackberry and apple crumble and mascarpone ice cream. He has spent the evening in his PJ, sitting in his bed reading, or watching scooby doo on I player, or Fails videos on Youtube.

He is also from a state school background, and only been tutored because we were outside the uk curriculum between Y2 and Y5. He is also bright, but I fear disadvantaged due to not having lived here all the time, and read all the books his peers have read, and covered the same topics in school. Oh well.

DS has had his last exam - hurrah! We will know next week if he has any interviews (wibble).

Unfortunately he didn't get through for Radnor but is apparently on the waiting list which we will know about after March 4th - as DS found the maths horribly easy this confirms my prejudice that it is only if the maths is hard that he will shine.

Report
PureQuintessence · 27/01/2013 14:20

Ds also had his last exam yesterday, and he also came back saying the maths was extremely easy, but the literacy really hard. So, this mean he wont have shone either!

Fingers crossed for our ds the next couple of weeks!

I shall be so glad (or maybe not) when 1st of March has passed and we have some certainty!

Been lurking first post here, Anyone heard anything, or any idea how many KCS interview at 10+? I heard that the first calls for interviews went out last Tuesday. Ultra bright boy at DSs prep had an interview last Wed - we are still waiting!!

tomtommum · 30/01/2013 14:43

just heard a boy in my ds' class got call yesterday for interview today at KCS 10+...... but the school did tell me they were calling up to this Friday 1st, so whilst I am resigned to it not being good news, there is a very tiny insy winsy small glimmer of hope......

Oh dear, just found out there were 180 DSs sitting the 10+ for City. And there are only 40 places.

The odds are so high - and it's our only option (other than one more year at state primary).

Does anyone have a feeling of how many of those 180 would have sat other 10+ tests?

My sense is not many (since there aren't that many offering much of a 10+ entry). So unlike 11+ where you can console yourself that although there are five applicants for every place, each of themwill have applied for 5 schools. Not same at 10+. IYSWIM Sad

Report
tomtommum · 30/01/2013 16:33

i think you would be surprised how many do try out for other schools at 10+, i know a couple who have tried 3 or 4, of which most were deferred entry and thus the preferred choice. so you never know.

it's hard not to feel flat as a pancake, but I guess we just have to be philosophical about it all.......

looking forward to getting home from work to Wine !!!

Has anyone heard from Hampton re interviews for the 13 plus pre-test? Nobody around here seems to have heard a peep but someone must have as interviews were scheduled to start tomorrow!

OhDearConfused good luck with CLSB, letters to be posted today. I gulped hard at that 180 number for 10+. Oh well, what will be will be.

PureQuintessence · 31/01/2013 11:56

Think there are just 11 places for the 11+ or thereabouts... So not holding out much hope at all!

OhDearConfused that is not bad odds. I think there are maybe 300 that sit for 40 places at 13+ at CLSB?

KingscoteStaff I take it your DS got an interview as well? We are still waiting on CLSB and Hampton....

At our school I think all four that sat 13+ got an interview which is good predictive work by the parents/HM.

Report
OhDearConfused · 31/01/2013 13:57

Thanks, Shaded. Will know tomorrow or saturday.

stclemens - yes, but I think my point was that at 13+ (and 11+) the applicants are applying to many schools each. My DS - and I expect most of the 10+ applicants - have only CLSB on our radar! At least I thought so until tomtommum reassured me not.

But still, yikes 300 for 40 places. Grim odds indeed even if each are applying for 3 or 4 or 6 schools each!

10+ odds aren't great anywhere you go - 70 boys at KCS trying for 8 places ?! first time I have dipped my toe in to this pool and frankly I find the whole thing terrifying / demoralising..... Sad

Report
PureQuintessence · 31/01/2013 14:44

But like they said at KCS at open day "few children apply only to one school, most apply to 3-6 schools so there is always the possibility of a place"....

5 boys from DS's school had their KCS interviews today. Apparently they are 'jolly friendly' and it was all 'jolly quick'!
We have to wait until Monday....
