I thought I would start this tradition once again while we all wait? DS only sat Trinity...

W had DS do some simple math questions (word questions) in his head. Multiplication and division- I think it was more about listening to the question rather being particularly difficult. Good luck everyone!

Trashpack · 22/01/2013 21:36

We are also still waiting for notification as to whether ds will be either having an interview or failed the exam.
I feel the same way as you fatal in that if he hasn't passed, couldn't W have told us last week?
I'll be very disappointed in the whole process if we get a rejection letter after all this time...12 very long days and counting. If its a NO, I can concentrate my interests on March 1st instead.

stresscity · 22/01/2013 23:44

Mum4school, did you say your ds sat trinity 12+?

stresscity · 22/01/2013 23:49

Thanks Soup. Yep, really enjoying this whole process again. Think I will top myself if its a no again (wink) I so sympathise with those who are yet to hear. Agree with previous, all those that have passed the exam will be assessed for scholarship of choice. So far we have has a call from sports master telling us date for ds sports scholarship. No letter or call from admissions so far.

Trashpack · 23/01/2013 06:36

stresscity I think your posting has finally made the penny drop for me. I've been in denial up to now. If the exam is passed, our ds's are assessed for scholarship of their choice-ds wanted sports scholarship and they are currently being carried out this week. Therefore, if not doing sports assessment = failed the exam... penny clicks into slot

Mum4School · 23/01/2013 08:25

stresscity - my ds sat 12+ for W.

kimalima · 23/01/2013 09:11

I'm not sure about sports scholarship. But my DS applied for a different kind. He has passed W exam and has had interview but has not been selected to be seen for his chosen scholarship. I hope this helps folks still worrying - it doesn't necessarily follow that your out if you haven't heard.

hardboiled · 23/01/2013 09:43

Everyone out there stressed about interviews...don't! It's really no big deal compared to the exam. DS was asked at T to do some maths in his head. They were so welcoming and nice throughout the whole process...His music audition was also very pleasant.

The 6th formers were sitting exams, there was a sign asking for silence during exams, everything was very quiet and every student we saw was behaving himself and respecting the need for silence.

Use the occasion to get a last "feel" for the school, just to be prepared if he has other offers...

Trashpack - I don't think it follows that no call for scholarship = no pass in exam. There could be several factors - maybe sport references not adequate or not playing the sport at the right level (not presuming your DS doesn't btw). Not sure also if actual exam pass mark matters either and there is a lower limit for scholarships.
I would have thought that there were far more applications for sports scholarships than the number of boys that actually get tested (maybe 60 or so at 10+).
Its a long anxious wait and an unfathomable process full of speculation, but keep positive until the letter actually lands telling you either way - 'its not over till the large boned lady sings' as they say. Smile

Ladymuck · 23/01/2013 10:08

Trashpack - it isn't quite as automatic as that. The supporting evidence generally determines whether you are called for a scholarship assessment. So it is possible to apply for a sports scholarship, pass the entrance exam, and not have strong enough sporting credentials to get called for a sports assessment. I know it is really frustrating if you don't hear, more so if you hear from one school and not the other. But I wouldn't try to analyse too much into it. Equally there are a number of scholars who didn't necessarily shine in the entrance exam...

Ladymuck · 23/01/2013 10:09

Lol - crosspost...

ankshous · 23/01/2013 10:54

Hi Have read your posts with interest. Has anyone received a rejection letter yet from Trinity? Or know anyone who has? Just need to know have they sent them yet!!!

Trashpack · 23/01/2013 13:31

Thankyou Ladymuck and burntoutdad for being the voices of reason. It's easy to lose all common sense at a time like this. I expect you're absolutely right about the Sports Scholarship...ds is nowhere near county level and I'm sure there is huge competition for those places.
DS (my only child) did the 11+ exam so it's unlikely we will get a second chance at this-not keen on moving him from his next school when he is 13+
I have become completely obsessed with it all. I'm usually a very sensible, rational person...! I will wait for the large boned lady to sing-I promise. Seriously, thank you both
Thanks

Somelikeithott · 23/01/2013 13:33

Hi everyone,

I've been somewhat distracted and just caught up with posts. DS has had W interview, and he did get asked a maths question, nothing difficult really, just simple sums. All the boys we saw came out of the interviews smilling and looked relaxed.

Trashpack, I was going to say the same as burntout dad & ladymuck re sports scholarship & exam results. Keep your chin up ( very difficult, I know).

Sorry ankshous, I havent heard about rejections from trinity, but i assume the letters would have gone out last friday as they said, so no news has got to be good news. Fingers crossed.

The waiting continues.

Has anyone had call backs for either the T or W sports scholarship assessments.

Gosh just realised, it's snowing again!

Somelikeithott · 23/01/2013 13:36

trashpack, our posts crossed. lol!

This is such a wonderful site for putting things into perspective for us isn't it. Bringing back a degreee of rationality, when we start to lose the plot! We are all in it together.

Trashpack · 23/01/2013 13:54

Thank you Somelikeithott, you're right-this is a great place to help put things in perspective.
But I think I'm beginning to replace my obsession with exams, letters, interviews etc by becoming addicted to this thread!

Good luck everyone who is waiting to hear anything...sit back and enjoy writing/reading these posts in the meantime. Grin

Inneedofwine · 23/01/2013 14:06

Ankshous - I know of one Trinity (10+) rejection letter which was received last Friday.

FatalFlowerGarden · 23/01/2013 14:21

The penny has also dropped for me Sad. If W haven't yet sent out their rejection letters, then that would explain why we've not heard anything yet! Am fed up tbh - I don't see why rejection letters couldn't go out sooner. After all, it's logistically easier, surely, to write and send a thanks but no thanks letter than to organise an interview or scholarship assessment...

Sorry to be so negative (and genuine, heartfelt congrats to those who have done well!) but I really didn't think I'd be so affected by it! I feel like a crap mother for even putting ds in for the exam and getting his hopes up.

LIZS · 23/01/2013 14:27

I would imagine they won't reject until they decide if any borderline candidates should be interviewed (ie they have enough after first round of interviews and scholarship assessments to offer to).

ankshous · 23/01/2013 14:40

I agree FatalFlowerGarden - it is not that difficult for the schools to organise a "no thanks" pile and get the letters out. The wait is very frustrating. Lizs - I suspect you are right but why hand us all a letter saying "rejections will be posted no later than 18th Jan" if the school has done this parents should have letters by now. Aargh! Inneedofwine - this gives me hope...perhaps there are mums out there with "no" letters...

kimalima · 23/01/2013 14:52

Please, please, please don't give up hope. Both schools are running so behind. Interviews are still being called well into next week.

Trashpack · 23/01/2013 15:53

Oh Fatal, you're not a crap mother in the least...you're a mother who wants the best for her child. You know our paths have been so similar since this thread started, I've often read your posts and nodded my head in agreement with you.

Did you see the other posts from Ladymuck and burntoutdad after my posts? They were so lovely and positive. It's not over until its over.

I telephoned Admissions at W again...they'll think I'm stalking them...if we (or anyone else who's heard nothing at all yet) don't hear by Saturday, sadly, we can take it that our ds hasn't been successful. They are posting the interviews for Monday's interviews today & tomorrow...my ds's name wasn't in her list of tomorrows letters.

Hang in there...

therugratref · 23/01/2013 16:43

I feel like a wrung out cloth. I have absolutely no clue if Ds is any closer to getting in after the interview. Maths very good and English not very good. I cant even get out of him the questions asked, Cannon Boswell was nice though

Kylep · 23/01/2013 17:35

@fatalflower please don give up hope I know of a boy taking an ECM tomorrow because they couldn't do the date so maybe they are just waiting to see what results the boys get and you are not a crap mother just the opposite praying u get some good news

Goldfish678mum · 23/01/2013 17:41

I agree with trashpack. Fatalflower u r certainly not a crap mother! And I also agree no news still maybe good news. Looked on the trinity website and it says they will be running interviews up until the 6 feb. not sure what age group this is for, but I'm sure it's because they are behind due to the snow!
My ds went for sports assessment yesterday at T but still no date for interview. Is anyone else in same boat? Really want to phone admissions but don't want to annoy them!!!
