this is at a grammar school. English is three hours a week which I expected. How are the lessons distributed at your child's school?

Mine got two of each, after all there are only so many hours in the school week and in year 7 they are expected to be having a bash at everything on the curriculum.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 05/09/2012 23:36

3 periods each of Maths and English Language.

1 of each of the following

French
Drama
Art
Dance
IT
Geography
Textiles
PE
Design Tech

Textiles becomes Food Tech after Feb half term.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 05/09/2012 23:37

Oh, and science x2 Smile

EcoLady · 05/09/2012 23:40

DD has:

3 maths
3 English
3 science
3 French

2 history
2 PE
2 geography
2 design & enterprise

1 ethics (?!)
1 IT
1 art & design
1 music
1 drama

Goldidi · 05/09/2012 23:41

I would expect at least 3 lessons a week for each of English, Maths and Science. Then the other subjects have either 2 lessons (geography, history, technology, language) or 1 lesson (art, food tech, RE)

Having said that, it makes a difference how long the lessons are. Some schools have hour long lessons, others have 50 mins, some even have 2 hour lessons Shock. If you are in a school with a longer lesson time then you will get fewer lessons in each subject.

bizzey · 05/09/2012 23:50

My ds1 (pfb) has got 4x maths..4x eng....4x history which rotates with goeograpy ? 1/2 termly I think...4x science....3x drama(!!!) but in a roation with music, art and something else (forgotten!) 1/2 termly....3x french ....2xRE....2x PE and double games on Friday afternoon.

Oh and I think ICT is x1 and swimming is on a day after school ( I think)!!

My head is spinning with his time table so no wonder he is like a zombie today after his 2nd day !!

crazymum53 · 06/09/2012 08:43

dds school has a 2 week timetable so for Maths has 2 lessons (1 hour each) in week 1 and 3 lessons in week 2.

DeWe · 06/09/2012 11:48

Dd1's the same as crazymum. They have a whole day every fortnight for team building in year 7. Hmm

JustGettingByMum · 06/09/2012 12:39

DD has 5x 1 hr lessons each day. I have just checked her 2 week timetable and she has
3x English, 3x Maths, 4x Science, 2xFrench, & just 1 lesson pw of History, Geography, Art & Drama Sad

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2012 12:40

7 50 minute lessons a fortnight here. 2 a week does seem a bit short, unless the lessons are really long?

complexnumber · 06/09/2012 12:43

2 x 80 min lessons + 1 x 40 min lesson at DD's school for maths

sadie3 · 06/09/2012 12:43

Are you sure they?re not double lessons? 2 Double lessons would count as 4 single lessons

catwoo · 06/09/2012 12:51

each period 40 mins.8 periods a day
5 maths
4 english
4 French
6 science (2 of each science)
4 PE
3 history
3 geography
2 DT
2 Art
2 Music
2 RE
2 IT
1 PSCHE

catwoo · 06/09/2012 12:59

If my calcualtions are right we have a range between 120-200 mins per week on this thread.Quite a substantial variation!

Ouluckyduck · 06/09/2012 13:08

Each lesson is one hour long. Really interesting to see the differences!

TunaPastaBake · 06/09/2012 13:17

We have a two week timetable -

5 sessions of Maths over two weeks = 5 hours

KitKatGirl1 · 06/09/2012 14:10

Ds has 35 min single periods/1hr10 for a double lesson and has:

2 double and 2 single English
2 double and 1 single Maths and Science
1 double and 1 single French
1 triple and 1 double Games
Then 1 double each for : Spanish, Hist, Geog, Art, Music, Drama, Food Tech, ICT, RS
1 single PSE

Then 2 x single periods of enrichment or 'free choice' of subjects from a wide cross-year group range.

KitKatGirl1 · 06/09/2012 14:12

So I make that 2 hours 55 mins maths per week and 3 hours 30 of English

lljkk · 06/09/2012 17:41

Dunno, what's a timetable, why would we have one of them? Wink

The example timetable has 5 hours of maths over 2 weeks.
Where I went to school we had math daily for all but maybe last year of high school. Don't think much of English system.

hoodoo12345 · 06/09/2012 21:45
