THREAD FOR THE 'GUTTED' ON GCSE RESULTS DAY.

Champneys · 23/08/2012 06:48

Right, this is the second bloody thread of this nature I have had to start in a week!!

Last week with DD's A levels and today with DS's GCSE's.

I know the results are not with us yet, but am anticipating disaster, so all welcome, as before to come into this quiet sanctuary and rock in the corner, whilst eating lashings of cake, of course!!

Oh, god- I've been awake since 5!

Have absolutely no idea how it's going to go.

I have cake for breakfast?

Champneys · 23/08/2012 06:54

Cake all day in here! Have you seen the headlines about the english? What a disaster. Also read they are scrapping the modular gcse's from this sept. If only we were doing them now. DS does much better on just final exams rather than all these constant bits and pieces!

I've been awake since 5.15. Only had 3 hrs sleep. I'm knackered - too old for this sleep deprivation malarky!

Yes please to cake....

MarjorieAntrobus · 23/08/2012 06:58

Hi! I've been awake since 6 and am itching to wake DD up. Might have coffee first. Oh dear.

curlywurlycremeegg · 23/08/2012 07:00

DS just up, I am off to work as I have a clinic on Thrsdays, he is going to give me a call as soon as he knows. Haven't seen anything about English results......off to google now!

CakeistheAnswer · 23/08/2012 07:09

Just checked school website and the overall figures look very good. Fingers crossed!

DS has ADHD, and coincidentally has a psych appointment at midday today. Good timing.

Champneys · 23/08/2012 07:18

oh cake, that sounds promising. Just looked at our website and nothing on there!

This is like waiting for the hangman to take me to the gallows Grin

OP posts:
seeker · 23/08/2012 07:20

Wish I had a psych appointment at mid day.............!Grin

happilyconfused · 23/08/2012 07:22

Marking my place for later - well done Champneys. Lets make it clear that this is not a thread for A/A* students - those people can make their own thread. Off to potter around garden - will use my tears to water the plants later Grin but shall be joining Marjorie for a Brew. Shall dash out for cake later x

CakeistheAnswer · 23/08/2012 07:24

I've got butterflies and no fingernails.

I've been resisting the urge to go and poke DS (like Christmas!) but think he's stirring now.

Not long now!

MarjorieAntrobus · 23/08/2012 07:29

DD has just got hers online. Better than we feared. Phew.

Best of luck to you and yours.... Thanks

Champneys · 23/08/2012 07:38

oh excellent news Marjorie! Well done to your DD.

Was the english as expected ?

OP posts:
lentilweavinghippy · 23/08/2012 07:39

Is it very pessimistic to mark my place now? If I had any cake I'd be eating it, maybe i'll make a 'never mind there's always re-takes' cake for later. Do you think Clintons do a 'See, I told you, you lazy sod' cards??

MarjorieAntrobus · 23/08/2012 07:46

Champneys, English was better than expected. That might not be the national trend though! More that for my DD, who only started getting support for dyslexia in Year 10, English is an uphill struggle. Anyway, great teacher and lots of support, so all good.

VoldemortsNipple · 23/08/2012 07:50

I've made banoffe cupcakes for DD later but will happily pass them round.

I was never nervous when I got my results. In fact I went to Camelot with the playscheme and sent my sister to pick up the disasterous results.

shhhgobacktosleep · 23/08/2012 07:54

I'll take 2 of those cards please lentil. DTs got their results at 7.30 and whilst they've got Cs and above in everything they haven't done as well as predicted (particularly DT1 who really should have been getting all As & A*). I'm hoping it's the kick they both needed to realise a bit more effort is needed, as clearly DH & I telling them so til we were blue in the face wasn't (as we knew) enough to get through to them. Feel a bit deflated here tbh. So far have congratulated them on their passes through gritted teeth but cannot muster up any more enthusiasm right now.

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/08/2012 07:55

DD took English lit , Science and Dance this year (year 10 ) she took dance out of school .
Also , 1 module in History
Sadly , she's a bit lazy , and I'm not expecting much .
Will be very happy with C in anything !
PS , I was also on the gutted for AS levels thread !

happilyconfused · 23/08/2012 08:07

like the Clinton card idea - can I order one please? Got to go to work now but will back on line at lunchtime with the disappointing news. I am so glad that I did not get the lazy sod a Reading ticket because that would have pissed me right off - him gallavanting and me fretting about his rubbish results

Champneys · 23/08/2012 08:19

8 cards please - one for each subject, thanks Grin

OP posts:
MarjorieAntrobus · 23/08/2012 08:39

When will you hear, Champneys?

TheOneWithTheHair · 23/08/2012 08:45

I need one of those cards too please!

Can I have some cake too please? or a large wine

dottyaboutstripes · 23/08/2012 08:49

Good luck to everyone. I was on the A level thread but my dd's story seemed to turn into a fairy tale as she got in somewhere she really wanted to do the exact degree she had wanted through clearing (nightmarishly stressful but worth it!)
Dd2 getting GCSE results today and she has 3 so far which she could access online but has to wait until 10am to get the others. So far it's a day of slight disappointment so that's good (ie that it's slight!)

Champneys · 23/08/2012 08:53

Well, am not sure what time we get the results. DS still asleep, so will wake him later with a slap around the face with a wet fish with a gentle nudge and see where we go from there. Expect I will know by lunchtime.

OP posts:
bucksmum · 23/08/2012 08:53

All dd needs is a c in English as she took a lot early but have a bad feeling she's not going to do it, has spent the last year doing bugger all work! feel sick time for another coffee Whilst she has a lovely lie in!!

DiscoDaisy · 23/08/2012 09:01

I've just sat down and written a list of which grades in which subjects DD needs to do the Alevels she wants.
English is figuring quite heavily and she said last night that she had a disaster with one of the English papers.
With what she's said and the news reports I'm starting to worry!
Oh well 10 o'clock will be here soon enough!
