THREAD FOR THE 'GUTTED' ON GCSE RESULTS DAY.

Champneys · 23/08/2012 06:48

Right, this is the second bloody thread of this nature I have had to start in a week!!

Last week with DD's A levels and today with DS's GCSE's.

I know the results are not with us yet, but am anticipating disaster, so all welcome, as before to come into this quiet sanctuary and rock in the corner, whilst eating lashings of cake, of course!!

OP posts:
blinkedandmissedit · 23/08/2012 10:07

Year 10 results here, all pretty hideous except the B in ICT. E in one english, d in maths. AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH. DS not bothered. Although managed to drag his core science final result up to a C after a G in one module.

DS now gone out.

VoldemortsNipple · 23/08/2012 10:11

DD has just informed me her friend passes music :)

Followed with... I forgot all about stupid music with stupid Miss teacher! she really hasn't thorght this results day through!

bucksmum · 23/08/2012 10:14

Waiting outside school now dd doesn't seem fazed at all Angry

DiscoDaisy · 23/08/2012 11:03

Just got back!
Feeling very happy and proud!
Got B's in Eng Lit and Eng Lang so all A levels back on after this mornings wobble!
Felt far more nervous getting DD's results than I ever did my own!
Rest of results were good as well!

TheOneWithTheHair · 23/08/2012 11:07

Well I can truly join this thread now. Ds got what he needed for college just. His results are not what we expected. :( He's very gutted.

When colleges say they need maths and English do they mean lit or lang? Does anyone know? If it's Lang he's ok but if it's lit he'll need to resit along side his college course. :(

magentadreamer · 23/08/2012 11:09

TOWH - English language I would have thought.

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/08/2012 11:12

DD had C in eng lit
C in 2 science and D in the other
E in history
D in dance ( very disappointed )
Luckily she's only year 10 , and knows she has to work much harder and revise a lot more for next summer .

almapudden · 23/08/2012 11:16

TOWTH - it's Language. Some schools don't even offer Lit!

TheOneWithTheHair · 23/08/2012 11:21

That's great news thanks. I think that makes sense. I'm relieved I don't have to tell him he has to carry on with English next year. I don't think I could cope with the melt-down. :)

creamteas · 23/08/2012 11:54

Module results only here, some OK, but too many Es & Fs .

Also just been told a BTEC sport result, of 'Grade 1 pass 80'. Is that good or bad, I have no idea as I wasn't even expecting this one Hmm

boschy · 23/08/2012 12:34

another Y10 here - think the worst so far? D in English, and - wait for it - G in maths!! oh well, she is quite resigned to it...

Vickiplum79 · 23/08/2012 12:50

Went and got DD's results earlier, she got a C for Chemistry and a D for Physics ( have looked up grade boundaries and she missed a C by one point) so overall ok.

However she's really disappointed as she got a U for English and so am I. She's in year 10 so can resit but I was hoping she wouldn't need to, all her controlled assessments are B's or high C's. Confused

magentadreamer · 23/08/2012 14:05

A mixed bag for my yr10 DD. Her yr10 GCSE option -that she can't resit she was a mark of a bloody C grade she compared her scores with her friend who did get a C grade I will check grade boundaries later on. She bombed the two English Lang papers with E grades in both but since they didn't do all the CA's they will stand as not cashed in - DD was getting B's and C's in those. She won't be able to resit English Language till June next year. The English was expected.

On the plus side DD got another B grade for Maths unit 2, a C grade for the English lit Unit 1r and a B grade in Physics unit 1.

bucksmum · 23/08/2012 14:28

Just scraped into college - c's all round let's hope she starts working now!

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 15:06

Mixed bag here, too - but (as said on the other thread) just delighted that DD passed maths with a C.

The fact that she won't have to re-take Bloody Maths is fantastic. Smile

lentilweavinghippy · 23/08/2012 15:18

Does anyone know what grade a pass in ICT & btec are equivalent to?

Other than that, D, D, E, E, G & U! Ah well... I left school with 2 Ds & now I have a degree.

He needs 4 Ds to get into college.

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 15:23

lentil, my DD has a pass in ICT (OCR Level 2 National First Award) and I believe that's the equivalent of one GCSE at grade C.

(BTech Pass should also be a C, shouldn't it?)

And good on you for pointing out that plenty of people get degrees who didn't do well on the O levels/GCSEs first time round.

alistron1 · 23/08/2012 15:26

DD1 had a bit of a shock. In Easter mocks her predicted grades were A/A*. She got As in maths and history, B's in ICT and Art and a C in product design.

The big shock was art. She got 98 for the coursework and 55 for the exam. The school is asking for all candidates to be remarked. Apparently no one got an A/A* grade. She was upset, art is her 'thing'

Luckily she's just finished Y10 so this doesn't have a bearing on college places etc.

lentilweavinghippy · 23/08/2012 15:36

Thanks LineRunner, that's what I thought but wasn't sure. So that's him into college then, yay! He can retake maths & English while he's there.

A lot of 16 yr olds just aren't at a stage where exams are important to them, or they just hate school! Not the end of the world, education is free until they're 19.Wink

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 15:39

lentil I hope so - I only got DD's ICT certificate today and I had to google it to see what it was 'worth'!

Is the BTech a Level 2 as well?

gettingeasier · 23/08/2012 15:45

DS Year 10 mixed bag here too but not the As in additional maths he expected

Hes saying I will retake XYZ and I feel sad at the thought of all the pressure that will mean

I think the accelerated learning thing is crap and it should be like in our day 2 years work and exams at 16 not 15 years old

Actually feeling down at how I would have been thrilled with his results but he isnt and how given the harsh , competitive world we live in I cant just say forget it Sad

lentilweavinghippy · 23/08/2012 17:43

LineRunner, I just Googled the btec & as far as I can tell it's worth D-G. Meh. Hopefully that will still be enough!

happilyconfused · 23/08/2012 17:46

Its official - he will be a roadsweeper. DS has got enough for college but I top uni will be out of the questions Sad blow the cake now onto alcohol Wine

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 17:48

lentil well good luck with the College enrollement. Are you getting onto it today/tomorrow? It does sound hopeful.

lentilweavinghippy · 23/08/2012 17:49

Nothing wrong with roadsweepers, roads will always need sweeping! Have a Wine
