Do your children wear their blazer done up?

Do your children wear their blazer done up? If so, do they wear one or two buttons done up?

I know this sounds a silly question, but on trying my daugther's blazer on her the buttons are clearly not lined up. Have phoned the school shop who say they only wear the top button done up, the other button and hole are just for show. I'm not overly happy with it, but I know they won't have time to order another one in before she starts school. I could alter the button myself but finding a matching thread will be a nightmare - I have two shades of dark blue and both are clearly different.

The only time our children at school wear their blazers done up is if they are trying for a laugh to look nerdy! Accompanied by socks pulled up over their trousers!

we struggle to get students to fasten their shirt buttons never mind blazers!

Never! And they go to a school very strict on uniform, I've never seen kids from the local privates do them up either.
I would try for a partial refund from the shop though.

Hmmm - think I made a boo boo on the blazer size then :( I have a tall 12 year old who is not teenage shape yet but needed an a 36 chest blazer so that it would do up......it's a bit too big across the shoulders. I am sure he will grow into it, but the 35 chest was a better fit but wouldn't have fastened over his jumper.....looks like that wouldn't have mattered - never mind, too late now, he starts tomorrow!

Even in my day (which was by no means yesterday) it was very uncool to wear your buttons done up.

I left school 30 years ago.......and never wore a blazer.

Well, dd's school don't have blazers, but at ds's I've NEVER seen any pupil with a done up blazer, and he's been there 5 years. Twas the same back in the dark ages when I was at school, only one girl I can think of ever did her blazer up, and she really was the geekiest of geeky girls, with little social awareness.

never, I teach at a blazered school, have dcs at 2 others and drive past a 4th. I have never seen a kid with a blazer fastened.

Well my son had his first day today......there were loads of buttoned blazers when I dropped him off. Also velcro shoes etc.

Obv our school is not the style capital of the UK!

amck Give it 48 hours and there will be nary a done-up blazer in sight, I promise you Grin (unless they have some weird rule that they have to be done up or something...)

Primary school children, yes. Secondary, no never. I don't actually think DS1 has any buttons on his blazer tbh (still trying to figure out how he constantly loses them when he never does them up though...) His school is very strict on uniform, tie crest must be an inch below the knot level of strictness, and even they don't make them do them up.

DD is in primary and her blazer is just for wearing to/from school as part of summer uniform. She fastens it if it is a bit chilly but tbh very rarely is it fastened.

Ah, I remember the tie rules Grin They usually bring them in to counter a craze for wearing your tie in some rebellious way. In my year it was to wear them really short so that they stuck out over the girls' boobs like Britney Spears. Except the boys would wear them short, too.

We also used to go around rolling up the bottoms of our shirts so that they looked tucked in, utterly pointless! You spent more time rolling them up every five seconds as they unrolled in order to avoid detention, than it would have taken to just tuck them in.

But hey, gives them something to rebel about Grin

At my Childs school it seems that buttoning up your blazer is in fashion, Even my 12 year old boy buttons both his up. I noticed this when i picked him up and all the Year 7s and 8s had there blazers fastened. I asked a teacher about it and they say the students prefer to look formal and have not been told to fasten them.

My daughters school is very strict on uniform and they have to wear there blouses outside of their shirts with their blazers undone - so it probably depends on the school

No that was one of the first thing my 11yo was told when starting his secondary school! never button up your blazer and never wear your lanyard around your neck. It's apparently very uncool Hmm

Keep telling my son not to do it up as that looks look nerdy. I think he wants to look nerdy. Still, what do I know? - went to a College Ball once and they had a tent playing what used to be on Radio 2. I laughed hysterically and was told Easy Listening was cool. LOL.
