Do your children wear their blazer done up?

Do your children wear their blazer done up? If so, do they wear one or two buttons done up?

I know this sounds a silly question, but on trying my daugther's blazer on her the buttons are clearly not lined up. Have phoned the school shop who say they only wear the top button done up, the other button and hole are just for show. I'm not overly happy with it, but I know they won't have time to order another one in before she starts school. I could alter the button myself but finding a matching thread will be a nightmare - I have two shades of dark blue and both are clearly different.

Pupils at all three Whitgift Foundation schools in Croydon do, yes

They certainly don't all the time.

Talkinpeece · 09/11/2018 20:13

Only if it was pissing sideways with rain as they walked from the bus
otherwise NEVER

greencatbluecat · 09/11/2018 20:39

No. My DCs never do blazers up.

Cachailleacha · 10/11/2018 19:50

They don't button them at my child's school. You are only meant to fasten the top button on a two button jacket, never the bottom anyway.

Abetes · 10/11/2018 22:33

Never

School680 · 12/07/2019 17:20

It is advisable at my nephew's school that pupils must ensure they have both blazer buttons done up when on, as it looks professional and smart. My nephew was once ridiculed for leaving them undone!

RedSkyLastNight · 12/07/2019 19:04

And here I was thinking the buttons were purely decorative!

Interesting how it varies at different schools.
The only time my DC do up buttons is for school photos.

DD2 is 9 and they wear blazers in yr1 to yr6 which HAVE to be fastened with both buttons. DD1 is 13 and went to the same school so has always fastened her blazer. Just recently, almost at the end of yr8, she's started wearing them undone as that's how everyone else wear them. Old habits die hard though, and she automatically fastens both buttons every morning when she puts her blazer on!

Rosiesandposies1 · 13/07/2019 16:18

People 😂at buttons done up, seriously!

Ds14 has never once buttoned his blazer and neither did ds19 at school.

When I was in high school, I never done mine up and never in my whole time there ever saw anyone with it done it.

Rosiesandposies1 · 13/07/2019 16:19

Just seen- Zombie 🧟‍♀️

My DS has his buttons done up, and it is purely the Children's choice to do them up(majority do)in our school.

My son said that he felt smarter and more eager to learn, ready for the day to tackle Physchological Debates, Maths Problems and Quantum Mechanics, by doing his uniform 'smartly and properly'.

A bold statement for a 16 year old, who struggles to play cricket or make his bed!

Oh well Grin

MrHsFunMathsLessons · 16/07/2019 16:02

My son has both of his blazer buttons done up all the time, and it is in fashion at his school. Almost all students have both buttons done up, andd my son said that it tends to be the unintelligent who only do one button up.
It's not a question of IF you do them up at my DS's school, but how many.
When I went to school, it was out of fashion, but times clearly change!

In fact I heard that my son doesn't even undo them when seated, which causes the buttons to fall off, but everyone prefers to have them done up at his school; he is so desperate to do them up! It apparently improves his concentration, especially for Maths.

I can't count how many times he has touched the green bind of his blazer after doing them up So tightly too.

TheDestroyer9 · 16/07/2019 16:13

The older comments are outdated.
It is now fashionable to do one's blazer done up.

At my DS school, my son used to not do up his buttons due to social pressures. However, he knew he wanted to inside. He persuaded his friends to do the same and do both their buttons, and it worked!

Now people have accepted it in the school and it is now normality. Most, if not all pupils wear a blazer with all buttons done up.

RedSkyLastNight · 16/07/2019 16:38

The Destroyer my DC must go to an unfashionable school. No one does their blazer up!

WhyAmIPayingFees · 20/07/2019 20:29

TheDestroyer9: you’re making that up right? Is this like telling people a party is fancy dress when it isn’t?

Tej1 · 25/07/2019 05:31

Some do it up as it's quite fashionable.

GreatestMum551 · 13/12/2019 20:21

My son goes to Trinity and a lot of the boys do both buttons up

My son used to not but has been persuaded by his friends to do both buttons up. He loves it and refuses to wear them undone. He does say that it's the intellectual ones who do them up, and thinks that it should be a rule that they should both be done up

elliejjtiny · 18/12/2019 12:58

Year 7 ds does both buttons up. Year 9 ds leaves both buttons undone.

MillicentMartha · 18/12/2019 17:53

This is 7 years old! They will be at university by now!

elliejjtiny · 18/12/2019 18:16

Oops, didn't realise

Darbs76 · 18/12/2019 20:14

Nope mine don’t ever fasten the buttons.

ManiacalLapwing · 20/12/2019 19:24

DS doesn't fasten the buttons and I haven't seen any other students with them fastened either. I thought the rule for a two button suit jacket was just the top button fastened though, never the bottom?
