Are you ready? What's everyone got planned for Thursday? I'm going to my school to check on results, then wait for DD to call me from her school, with her news.

It's going to be an emotional day! Possibly not personally with DD, not expecting any top results, but she does already has Maths and English in the bag. She had what she needs to move forward and that's all that matters.

I have another 120 kids at my school and one or two who I care very much about. Can't wait to be there for them.

That's a lot of exams to be doing in year 10, magenta. DS only sat two last year!

LineRunner · 22/08/2012 19:47

I've lost track of everything. Tbh my DD's state school has been a bit of a disappointment. They think changing the pupils' uniform makes the maths teachers perform better, or something.

Ah, well apple sauce next.

GnomeDePlume · 22/08/2012 20:42

I agree with you there LineRunner apparently down our way it is only the new blazers and clip on ties which stand between the school and an even lower ebacc score.

dd is getting her results by email as she's away. Not sure what time though, so I'm not sure whether to sit by the phone tomorrow morning or drive to the school to collect the paper copy, but then I might miss speaking to her. She may well be too busy to check her e-mails before lunchtime in any case.

Releasing grade boundaries just seems like a good way of raising the tension the day before - why on earth do they do it? If dd was here I'd be looking at them and asking her stupid questions like "How many marks do you think you dropped in biology?" and it would be a complete waste of time because she will almost certainly have forgotten every qusetion on the paper, let alone what answers she put. So I think I'm glad she's not here.

She's another one I'm a bit protective of too, but thankfully she's decided she doesn't want to be a doctor (after a brief dalliance with the idea), so a string of A*s isn't essential.

maddiemostmerry · 22/08/2012 21:31

Have just read thread. Fingers crossed for everyone and their dc.

Ds is collecting his at 9, then celebrating(hopefully) with friends.

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2012 21:33

There is no tension here. DD and friend are home. DD is of the opinion she's already got what she needs, so 'whatever'.

Her friend however, needs everything and she's just told me she didn't even do Maths! She forgot to go in for it! Shock She actually said, 'I didn't do the Maths test, I didn't know it was on'. Shock

DD has suggested that if she gets an A* it'll be for RE, because it's all about opinion and there is no doubt that she has one of those! Grin

Getting excited for my yr 11s now! Only 13 hours to go! Grin

aargh, a friend has just pointed me to This thread on the tes forums.

I really, really shouldn't have read it. English is dd's weakest subject.

TheOneWithTheHair · 22/08/2012 21:45

Oh no. Don't start an hourly countdown. I'll never sleep! Grin

Champneys · 22/08/2012 21:46

Maureen - are the results with the school now? Are they all sitting around knowing what sort of day we are all going to have tomorrow?
God I can hear it now, and am cringing.

cardibach · 22/08/2012 21:47

I have had a shed load of some wine to steady my nerves. DD has a (non GCSE) friend here to lower the tension and we are watching Gregory's Girl. I don't think I can stand the tension much longer.

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2012 21:48

I'm not sure! Hang on, I'll see if our exams officer is online on Facebook! Grin

Champneys · 22/08/2012 21:51

yes because i wondered how the results get to the school. emailed then printed off individually or what.

QuickLookUsainBolt · 22/08/2012 21:53

Just wanted to wish you all the best for tomorrow.

I've been there myself with 2dds so I know how you all feel!

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2012 21:55

Neither of them are online, but I've sent them a message. They've probably gone to bed early, because it's going to be a long day for them!

I am totally Shock at teachers posting about their bloody results. They are issued to schools a day in advance for checking - there are often discrepancies between what you get on the Wednesday and what the actuals are on the Thursday anyway. Bloody unprofessional. Only HT and DHT see ours now - I used to but not this year.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

BringBack1996 · 22/08/2012 21:56

I reckon that the admin staff at DS's school must know because the results are printed on the school headed paper and it must take a while to print them all!

We're just having a chilled out evening watching the IT Crowd box set as a distraction :o

LineRunner · 22/08/2012 22:03

I just watched Bad Education which made me laugh.

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2012 22:03

There's the answer then. Yes, schools already know the results.

It is very wrong of teaching staff to talk about it tonight though. It's bad enough for parents and children in Yr11 tonight, without knowing that those boarderline English students, may suffer. Sad

Governments need to stop messing with education. It really isn't fair on anyone. Losing will to live.

Champneys · 22/08/2012 22:13

well that has just finished me off. we are borderline english.

I am thinking of laughing hysterically in a high pitched manner

cardibach · 22/08/2012 22:17

GO for it Champneys. I'll join in. WIth the whiskey I'm about to pour.

mysteryfairy · 22/08/2012 22:22

DS2 is in y10 and finished 4 GCSEs this summer. He previously did one in Y9 but they weren't allowed to go in and get the result as they would get in the way of the y11s and we didnt get his grade til he went back in September. My mum rang to ask if he could go tomorrow as it says on school website collect results from 10.30 but doesnt say what years for. The person who answered said we need to ring back in the morning as they may not have the results. Can that actually be right?

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2012 22:23

Grin There is no point worrying about something you can do nothing about at this time of night and you don't know that it'll be a problem until tomorrow anyway!

Everything will be fine. It is NOT the end of the world. If we are to believe what is being written by teachers this evening, I'm sure schools will recognise this and take it into consideration when confirming 6th places.

Please try not to worry unnecessarily, you'll make yourself ill by tomorrow and you'll be no good to DS like that. Smile

Hi
Joining you with a large glass of wine
Dd is going to collect her results at 9.00am
I won't know until I can take a break at work at 10.45.
Feeling a bit sick. Dd is so stressed.
She needs a min of 5C's & A's or B's in her A level choices. That means she has to get 9 in total. She took 11, but is a bit borderline on a couple of subjects.
How are we going to sleep tonight? DH has already finished his second glass of wine!
Poor kids, I feel sorry for them, when I took my o'levels in the 80's it was far more relaxed & we didn't have sleepless nights over our grades.
Good luck to all your DC. Will let you know tomorrow what happens.
