How much of each item will you be getting - DD starting secondary!

DD is due to start secondary school, this September and i'm going to order her uniform. Question is: How much of each item do you buy your DC?

I don't want to buy too much and definitely don't want her to be left short of things.

Dd1 has 2 jumpers, 2 pairs of trousers, 5 shirts. Plus one PE/games uniform. That seems to do fine.

Does your school have a blazer? We can have jumpers (but not compulsory) but they HAVE to wear their blazer all the time

I know this is probably a stupid question, but where do you get a 3 pack of shirts from?

We have Asda and M&S to choose from locally but they only do 2 packs (that I've seen). I was planning on 5 shirts for dd1 as well you see

I usually just get 3 packs of 2 and keep a spare - not sure who does 3

Tailored trousers is our next challenge - she has one skirt (for same thing at school) but has lived in jersey trousers since she started school but these are not allowed!

Oh and then there's the blazer, tie, PE kit blah blah blah...

This is the year we'll realise how easy buying a Junior school uniform really is

DD won't wear trousers and i'm glad now - i'd be having panic attacks trying to get some to fit her little legs!

One blazer is enough. Dd doesn't have a blazer but we do at my school and all the kids have one blazer that they wear every day. And 1 tie is enough too.

I was thinking one, but worried i'd seem 'tight' . . Good to hear it's the norm tho - this secondary school lark is stressful for us parents . . DD however, is oblivious

I'm 90% sure tesco do packs of 3 shirts.

And darn this secondary uniform lark...means I will have to get iron out...primary polo shirts just go through the tumble...

I'm planning on getting four shirts, two skirts, two sweaters. PE kit she needs one shirt, one skirt, one jogging bottoms, one PE sweater and one leotard. There are no blazers as part of the uniform. I do laundry twice a week so four shirts should work okay for us.

Oh do they Haunted . .

I don't iron secondary shirts either. By the time she's put her jumper over the top they would be crumpled anyway. It is possible to get 'non-iron' shirts too if you are that bothered. I can't tell by 9am which kids have had their shirts ironed and which kids haven't. I can tell the ones where nobody has washed them though :(

For those with blazer wearers. They do not have to be dry cleaned once a term, whatever the bloody label says. Inside out on a delicate wash once a week is fine and stops them stinking

If you get them big enough they last 2 years.

DS is going into Yr 11 with his 3rd ever blazer. He's grown at least 7 inches since Yr 7, but I only had the sleeves taken up with the first one.

Get the minimum you think you can get away with (just one of everything, except perhaps shirts). There is always a way to buy more during the school year (especially if there are second hand sales) and it's preferable to get what DD will actually be happy to wear, rather than the 'uncool' versions.

not just one! there's always an accident, a spill, the washer breaks down. minimum would be 3 shirts 2 skirts 2 jumpers and one p e kit - but go for more shirts if you can.

That's unlikely happen in the first week (unless you know your child is accident prone), and even a bit of emergency shopping is vastly preferable to 'No mum, it's got to be ". Unless the coveted version is silly money of course, when you stand firm.

I had to wear what my mum thought was sensible, rather than the (actually cheaper) versions that were the unofficial norm. It wasn't much fun.

Thats what i'm getting for DD who makes the big step up in September.

One tie should indeed be enough, but for the £3.50 outlay it involved I have found a spare tie which is kept in my drawer very useful

I was planning 5 polo shirts (logo'd), 2 jumpers, one lot of full PE kit.

Going to order online tomorrow, will tally it up as I go, may do 6 polo shirts so I can wash a full week's worth while he wears one.

One blazer, two long sleeve compulsory jumpers from school shop, one tank-top compulsory jumper from school shop, five blue blouses, three black trousers, one tie, one pe top, one pair of tracky bottoms and a partridge in a pear tree.

BadRoly, when dd was at primary i used to get her white blouses from BHS and they did packs of 2 and 3. Not sure if BHS is still around though. Now i get 3 packs of 2 from school shop. So for September i will only need to get 2 packs this time.

both ds's (Y10 and Y7) have 1 blazer, 3 shirts, 2 pairs of trousers, 1 tie

ds1 has separate games kit and PE kit and no jumper

ds2 has 1 jumper, 2 x PE kit

the jumpers are nasty acrylic so dry in about two seconds if they need to be washed in a hurry

What about games kit??

1 skort
1 shorts
and 2 Tops

Will that be OK do you think?

Have no idea how much or little sport they do.

I have two at secondary - one yr10 and one yr7.

They have one pe kit each

3 polo shirts (buy separately from the school uniform shop)
3 pairs of trousers

They can wear sweaters too but not compulsory. DS1 has never worn them and DS2 has lost both of his so I have not replaced them. He did find one of them but after two weeks it went missing again.
