Hi
Apologies if this has been done this year, but I found a similar thread very supportive when DD started the exam treadmill (not at Uni) and we are about to start again with DS.

Milliboy is 15, late Summer baby so cannot get a job until the end of the Summer hols, when they will have all gone. Good news is - this gives him more revision time Grin

He is at a boys selective Grammar school, so the pressure is on to achieve. He also wants to aim for a decent Uni so understands that good GCSE grades are vital.

Still doesn't make the whole process any easier for him or me :)

Who else has boarded the 2011 Exam Express?

OK. Am here again. Guess I'll go first.

6 As, 2 Bs and 2 Cs.

Think DS was disappointed not to get A*s in PE and Philosophy, but to be honest I think the results reflect the fact that he only did so much work and didn't go the extra mile. A lesson to him.

At least he got an 'A' for the notoriously difficult maths paper.

Good luck to everyone else and thank you Milliways for the journey!

Re-convene for A levels?!

Well done all your DC.

DS did very well with 5 A*, 5A's (inc. Add Maths!) and 2 B's.

He was very pleased with 1 B, and very upset with the other - English Lit, which is an A level choice. Out of 6 papers in Lit he get 5 A'a & A*s and a C with an overall B. Apparently loads od people expecting As got Bs though in his class.

Hi All
DS got
A in maths (excellent as he was in set 5)
A in food
B x2 in science
B eng lit
B music
B RE
C eng lang
C pe
c spanish

10 in total. This is very pleasing as it means he can do his A levels- but whether he can keep up is a different matter. But he is very committed to engineering as a career choice so hopefully he will prove right the phrase- "genius is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration" (Einstein) !!!

Well done to everyone else- and wow milliways.

DS and his friends all tried going to the cinema to watch The Inbetweeners, and were reused Admission (it's a 15). They had no ID and GCSE result letters were not allowed Grin His friends were collecting results in wellies straight from the muddy Festival field.

Slarty - glad you are proud - and Ds DO count! Enjoy the cider Grin

Hi Milliways, re the Inbetweeners, my DS went with friends to the Vue earlier this week, and one of them caught the bus home and back to get his passport whilst they all waited for him! Great film though.

Again, well done to all on this thread.

My DS got
2 As
4 Bs
3 Cs
1 D (Citizenship, no revision whatsoever!)

In addition, he had 2 Bs from last year.

So, all-in-all, very pleasing.

DD back from New Zealand safe and sound yesterday - results today were 10 A's and 2 B's, so with the two early ones she did that's 12 A's. Contrarily, she is really chuffed with the two B's - Science, her worst subject, and disappointed because she didn't get any stars (specially in art and Stats, her two best subjects). I am weak-kneed with relief. So her college place is secure and I think she is realising that even working as hard as you can, there is such a thing as spreading yourself too thin, so will now jettison the mad idea of doing 6 A-levels.

Congrats to all and thanks for the supportive thread.

DS got the following 1 A* 8 A and 3 Bs and now worried about whether he has blown his chances of applying to medical school. I think this may be a huge wake up call for him....

Congratulations Balia! Bet you're glad to have her home :)

Silver73 - they are fantastic results. It is so sad when kids are upset by "just getting A's" :( If he gets loads of work experience in and manages predicted A grade A levels then surely he should still have a good chance?

silver he has not blown his chances- honest, trust me.
Some amazing results there- all those A stars!!
Just remember that all people develop at different times, and may do less well at GCSE but really blossom at A levels or University or later in life- it all depends on motivation too.
I know a lad who got att A stars at GCSE, 5 A stars at A level and is doing medicine at Oxford. His Dad is a bus driver and his mum an administrator. Not sure my theory above applies to him- some people are just off the scale!!!

Miliways and Kangers - thanks for your kind words. I feel sorry for him but he has cheered up at bit since looking at the brilliant sticky on the student room website regarding GCSEs and med school. A few unis are out - Nottingham, Oxford and Cambridge but he was not planning to go to them. A lot say they like a broad range of subjects which I think he has.... He also has quite a bit of work experience already so fingers crossed as it is the only thing he has ever wanted to do...

Son didnt rock the academic world but was above all his target grades except for History where he bombed completely. Had an E. He passed Maths with a C but failed the rest with Ds and Es. Even had F in Welsh but not bothered about that. So going into 6th form to resit 5 GCSEs. I am just glad he did better than the school/teachers targets. Can`t ask for more really. He messed up History so going to recall his paper to see where he messed it up. Congrats to all those whose offspring did well :-))
