American woman living in Bernera is suing the local community run cafe because it would not admit her "emotional support" dog. She is being supported by the Ethnic Minorities Law Centre because Americans are ethnic minorities, and is being funded by Legal Aid. She wants £10k, which would shut them down.

I mean. What the actual fuck. Move to a tiny island with 250 people on it, claim you're being ostracised and harrassed and try to solve that by suing a charity? That'll sort it. And LEGAL FUCKING AID???

So women fleeing DA cannot get legal aid for their divorce or help with custody unless they can prove years of physical wounds (so those fleeing coercive, sexual or financial abuse can never really access it) and yet this waste of space can??! Good grief.

I also agree that only deaf and blind people should be able to have a national register for their assistance dogs, emotional support animals should never have been allowed, I'm sure I've read of someone having an emotional support snake for a plane trip (probably in America).

I made a small donation to support the Celtic/ Norse cousins on Bernera. Correct that nobody north of the Alps was writing much before the mid 5th century so she sounds a bit bonkers. Still I expect she is a fully qualified Druid and just knows these things that lesser beings are not privy to.

Completely agree this nutcase shouldn’t be able to sue an island charity using public funds, but there’s zero evidence she’s trans and lots of evidence she isn’t with a cursory google. Find the blatant transphobia on this site pretty disgusting, and the ‘look at her, you can tell’ comments are beyond the pale. There’s enough to be indignant about in the actual story without making it into a playground for your favourite combo of prejudices. 🙄

Emotional support animals have no legal standing in the U.K. so she doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Assistance dogs have to be trained and certified by certain organisations

Anyone know how much has been raised in donations so far? I could only see the figure of around £20k from a few days ago, and there's nothing to tell you once you've donated either. I hope it's a significant amount that will enable them to remain open to benefit the whole community, unlike the useless waste of space who's raised the claim.

That's not really the point, winning or losing. The case has already cost the charity concerned in legal fees and had it not been for generous folks making donations, could have bankrupted a small community cafe. So the end effect is the same - no more cafe.

I still don't get the logic of feeling you are being ostracised by a very small community and rather than trying to solve that by getting stuck in and involved, you sue the arse off everyone instead.

Yes - I was understanding the use of Graham and Anderson in the name as surnames used as middle names which is common enough here. Bit odd though that you use different combos on different sites.
