Peter Murrell is in court in Edinburgh today. This is for the preliminary hearing which was postponed from before the election. It will be interesting to see how the criminal proceedings proceed.

I think sentence is fair …I don’t even mind if he gets out early for good behaviour or if it is reduced on appeal. I agree with his lawyer that the real sentence has been the public humiliation and loss of dignity he has experienced ( and I am no Peter Murrell fan).

5 years and 3 months. Out in…..2??

I don't actually think that's a very long sentence considering the amount of money he's embezzled.

It is when you consider Michelle Mone's swindled £122 million and has so far got off scot free. Hasn't even been stripped of her peerage so in comparison this sentence is impressive.

No mitigation offered.

They just want it probing no further.

It’ll all come out in his book!

I can see their point about position of trust but…do I really think PM needs to be in jail for 5 plus years - everyone knows his name as a laughing stock. He’s hardly dangerous.

SirChenjins · Yesterday 12:21

That's a fair sentence - and more than I thought he'd get.

Of course, questions still need to be answered - there's no way NS (and others) didn't know about this.

Cismyfatarse · Yesterday 12:34

I think the sentence is fair. But, do I think he should be put in under 3 years. Not sure. I feel he is partly being punished by the process and public shame. But, has he been entirely honest? Has he fully shared who knew / what they knew / how he concealed it? I don’t think so. And I feel he should be required to do that - total public honesty, before he gets let out.

Cismyfatarse · Yesterday 12:47

*out in under three years.

Motheranddaughter · Yesterday 12:48

I thought it was important he was treated the same as anyone else and I think he has been

Long period of criminality/ gross breach of trust/large amount stolen
Against being a first offender/low risk of reoffending and money being paid back

Interesting there was no mitigation or explanation offered,he really has carried the can

Has Michelle Mone been convicted in a criminal court

He needs to be punished.

I believe he will have "carried the can" in exchange for a very favourable divorce settlement

And once again zero mention of how the court appearance was moved till after the election, the SNP have manipulated the courts and not one reporter in Scotland is asking how they did it.

Absolutely this
Disgraceful

Agree. The lines between the Scottish legal system, media and the SNP are far too blurred.
