Sunnnyday · 25/05/2026 10:28

Peter Murrell is in court in Edinburgh today. This is for the preliminary hearing which was postponed from before the election. It will be interesting to see how the criminal proceedings proceed.

The biggest problem imo with the voting system is that individuals get elected by being party loyalists whose loyalties are to the party, who put them top of the list, rather than to voters, who may not have voted for them if they understood the personal views of the individuals involved.

When you vote for a party on the list, you're voting for that party's general ethos. I agree with you partly. However, Murdo Fraser has never won an election but is there year after year. BUT, he always comes quite a close second. Can't stand the man, but people do vote for him, on the list.

Third. Reform and Labour got the same number of seats. So they were joint second.

I know you misunderstand PR in particular D'Hondt, a lot of people do.

It's actually a very fair system as the results are that parties get the % of seats = to the % of votes. Unlike FPTP where winner takes it all even if the winner is only voted by a third of the electorate.

But you aren't 4th when two other parties are joint second. You are third.

Edited

This isn’t true. The SNP got a clear seat bonus in comparison to all of the other parties except the greens .

The SNP got 38% constituency / ~27% list votes giving them 58 seats so 45% of 129 total seats.

Its fairer than FPTP but still not completely proportional.

Agree, voters can’t get rid of particular candidates if they are popular within their party.

I stand corrected - the Green idiots were 3rd (with far fewer votes than the Tories, Lib Dems, Labour and Reform - showing exactly what the country thinks of them).

I understand PR, so you can rest easy. I also understand that it gives us a Govt which doesn't represent the majority of the votes from Scottish people. What FPTP would do is irrelevant.

Edited

It does you no favours when you describe people with a different opinion "idiots". All that shows is that you have a very narrow mind. I really dislike the tories eg, but I will never call a person that votes for them an "idiot" because they are as entitled to their view as I am. I will never agree with their view, but I won't call them "idiots" for holding it.

However, let me know about that clear seat bonus as we got ONE list seat.

@Differentforgirls Whether you think it does me any favours or what you think it says about the width of my mind is completely irrelevant to me - I don't care one jot about your opinion of me. Happy to debate the topic of the thread with you though if you think you can manage that?

Yes that’s D’Hondt working as it should. I thought you said you understood how it works?

Yet every time I post, there you are, making me relevant. If you want to prove my irrelevance, you should try ignoring me. You even posted the other day to one of my posts " no comment" which was clearly a comment but I could be bothered replying.

Every time you reply to me, mostly when you're not even a part of the conversation, you are caring.

You're like that Wes guy.

Just ignore me FGS!

Sorry, missed your last sentence. No. Not interested. Sorry.

I do. I am happy with that one list seat. BUT, if we had FPTP, SNP would have had majority Govts for years.

I don't want that. I think every single person in Scotland should have representation in their own parliament. Even Reform voters.

I would rather have a minority govt where people have to work together to benefit every single person in Scotland.

I remember Nicola on a BBC election debate, thanking Anas, then wee Willie Rennie, then Lorna Slater and when it came to Douglas Ross and she ended it. She was thanking them for working together.

All Douglas did was cause chaos, which did not, in any way, shape or form, represent his voters.

And I think he let them them down. Even Murdo can say things I agree with sometimes. Not very often. Maybe about once every 4 years. That's being very generous.

BUT, I like our voting system. Everyone deserves a voice, whether I agree with them or not.

And I think they get it.

It’s not a case of just FPTP or D’Hondt though. There are other proportional methods available including different variants of D’Hondt. It very clear though that the SNP potentially have picked up 9 more seats than if it was strictly proportional.

I very rarely respond to you. I did on this occasion because you were very clearly wrong. But, you can’t police my replies. So, if I feel like responding to you, I will. If you want to ignore my responses, then I will be grateful because you always make me feel awful. I think you do it deliberately. Which says more about you than it does about me. So, basically, no. I will respond to posts I disagree with. Even if they’re yours. 👍

Jesus. Who introduced this system? I’ll give you a clue. It wasn’t the SNP!

TipsyLaird · 04/06/2026 15:57

I'm not seeing the relevance of the voting system to criminality within the SNP management, tbh. Let's not be distracted with whataboutery. We're discussing the fact that the CEO of the SNP had his hand in the cookie jar for years and apparently nobody noticed. And lots of other stuff around Sloggi knickers, fancy clicky pens, motorhomes and coffee machines.

If you're not prepared to do anything constructive to help yourself feel less awful then that is completely on you. My suggestion to not reply to each other's posts was a reasonable one, given your feelings.

surely if Nicola was completely innocent then there’d be no need to remove items clearly for her from the list? 🤔

Peter Murrell's plea deal was 'designed to protect' Nicola Sturgeon

As questions grow over the £60k amendment to the indictment, Russell Findlay says: 'This appears to be more evidence of Nicola Sturgeon benefiting from her husband's heist'

TipsyLaird · 04/06/2026 16:36

Let's play devil's advocate here. Let's assume that the plea deal was for another reason - maybe they didn't have as strong evidence for the remaining £60k, or it was at a different time, spent on a different card - whatever.

But Murrell and his legal team MUST have realised the implications, that discounting goods such as £886 worth of fancy make-up (wouldn't imagine that was all bought at the same time), GHD hair stylers and Nike women's clothing were going to cast more shade on Sturgeon. But then perhaps preferable to going to trial and having to wash the dirty (Sloggi knicker) laundry in public with the press salivating over every word.

I am far from a Sturgeon fan but even I don't believe she's stupid enough to knowingly post selfies of herself enjoying some gin in glasses she knew were bought with stolen cash.

Was she stupid - or was it arrogance perpetuated by a party structure which allowed the senior players in the SNP to behave with impunity?
