Peter Murrell is in court in Edinburgh today. This is for the preliminary hearing which was postponed from before the election. It will be interesting to see how the criminal proceedings proceed.

Swinney himself said

Peter Murrell was allowed by the SNP to pay himself expenses without providing any evidence, it has emerged, as John Swinney conceded that public money may have been abused in the 12-year embezzlement spree.

I think the problem with comprehension on this thread is that most of the people posting aren't members of any political party, so they mix up "tax payers" money with "party members" money.

They also appear to be confused about "Government" roles as opposed to "Party" roles.

Two different things in both instances.

Also the the stuff about three people resigning from the finance committee? There is a very long back story to this.

99% of members were glad to see the back of them and the 1% went with them - to the very "successful" Alba Party.

I can understand the interest around this. What I don't understand is the outrage from people who have never donated, never fund raised, never been a member and paid their monthly fee, never used their free time to canvas and would never vote for them anyway!

The money that was stolen isn't tax payers money, it's SNP members' money.

And most members have donated money over this period and we're the ones that should be aggrieved.

I don't get what you're all outraged about when it wasn't your money that was stolen.

I don’t get why you’re not outraged 🤷🏼‍♀️

Honestly, hats off to anyone who continues to engage 🫠.

Helpmaboa · 03/06/2026 19:46

In other news, I see there are allegations today that Colin Beattie effectively bribed the local party to ensure he was selected to stand for Parliament again, with a £20,000 donation to party funds

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 03/06/2026 19:50

There are some absolutely brilliant pro-SNP comments on this thread.

It is totally not a cult.

Anyway…

Perhaps those of us who are outraged can think of better things to spend £2 million on than a police investigation. Especially when the type of checks and balances common in the local bowling club or toddler group would have prevented Mr Murrell doing what he did rendering police involvement unnecessary.

Stillreadingalot · 03/06/2026 19:58

Also it is possible to be outraged by matters not directly affecting one. For example I am not starving in a 3rd world country but the fact that others are does (and should) cause outrage.
Or do you only care about things which directly impact you ?

Is that how they were recorded by Murrell on his list of 'expenses'?

It's par for the course and has earned them several deletions in the past. Surprised they're still doing it.

For “many”, read a few, who all joined Alba, which is now defunct with outstanding allegations about their finances which are currently being investigated by Police Scotland. All this without even a single councillor being elected. You could call it the party “for the few”.

Edited

You are having a laugh!!! The SNP has lost more than 50% of its members since 2020. And they tried to cover that up too which resulted in Murray Foote's resignation.

The party is rotten to the core. Anyone with any sense will have left the party by now.

I already posted a link with the figures which confirm what you say - but it was possibly on the other thread.

For those who missed it:

"Membership has fallen to 56,011 as of 1 June 2025, down from 64,525 the same time last year and less than half of its peak of around 125,000 in 2019."

How stupid are these people???

The actual Scottish Pravda is saying the fund has been spent and the faithful are still saying they donate?
