Peter Murrell is in court in Edinburgh today. This is for the preliminary hearing which was postponed from before the election. It will be interesting to see how the criminal proceedings proceed.

I think the problem with comprehension on this thread is that most of the people posting aren't members of any political party, so they mix up "tax payers" money with "party members" money.

They also appear to be confused about "Government" roles as opposed to "Party" roles.

Two different things in both instances.

Also the the stuff about three people resigning from the finance committee? There is a very long back story to this.

99% of members were glad to see the back of them and the 1% went with them - to the very "successful" Alba Party.

I can understand the interest around this. What I don't understand is the outrage from people who have never donated, never fund raised, never been a member and paid their monthly fee, never used their free time to canvas and would never vote for them anyway!

The money that was stolen isn't tax payers money, it's SNP members' money.

And most members have donated money over this period and we're the ones that should be aggrieved.

I don't get what you're all outraged about when it wasn't your money that was stolen.

The money stolen from the referendum money wasn’t from SNP supporters though, it was from Indy supporters, not all of whom are SNP party members. If the SNP are prepared to appropriate money meant for other causes, what’s to say that the Scottish government Covid recovery fund wasn’t appropriated for day to day things, or the £119m cladding fund. Where is this Scottish public money? Where did it go?

Zebrah · 03/06/2026 16:01

Why would the SNP be glad to see the back of Jo Cherry? She’s one of the very few SNP politicians of above average IQ. Would you rather have the shamefully unintelligent Emma Harper as an MSP than Jo Cherry for instance? Was Jo Cherry disliked cause she asked too many awkward questions? Do the SNP prefer their MSPs to stay quiet, follow orders and not ask awkward questions per chance?

Ok. I agree. But that doesn’t figure into the stolen money.

I‘m just so glad that she has finally left of her own accord. She was never an MSP btw.

I think boredom and / or stress likely comes into it given 2020 was his highest spending year but since that was also the year of the motorhome it's difficult to judge as that somewhat skews things!

Covid.

Just so you all know, as if you didn’t already as I have been bullied for my opinions, Peter Murrell is one of the nicest people I have ever had dealings with. He is a really nice man who, before all this shite, was someone I really liked.

Can’t help still liking him. He’s obviously unwell. Were his actions despicable? Yes. But the people he let down were SNP members. No one else. Except Nicola. His wife. And she did actually love him.

And I believe he loved her.

Try to remember that the first person to hide Peter’s propensity to steal was Alex Salmond.

And he obviously didn’t share that with Nicola.

PhaedraTwo · 03/06/2026 17:02

so they mix up "tax payers" money with "party members" money.

Swinney has admitted that public money has gone missing too. Political parties get public money to assist running costs -, that is tax payers' money.

The £2million investigation in to his dishonesty and criminality doesn't bother you then? That is paid by tax payers. I'm glad it was spent but don't try to pretend it is just SNP members who are affected.

Political parties get some public funding.

Peter Murrell was allowed by the SNP to pay himself expenses without providing any evidence, it has emerged, as John Swinney conceded that public money may have been abused in the 12-year embezzlement spree.

It's par for the course with the SNP - anyone who asks difficult questions or shows an ounce of intelligence is quickly shown the door. Cherry has come out of this looking very good - Sturgeon and Murrell, not so much. How the mighty have fallen.

Because @Differentforgirls the SNP have always positioned themselves in a po faced, self righteous moral high ground, a “we’re not like those terrible English UK parties, we are honest Scots” playbook.

They have repeatedly demonstrated that they are not exceptional, and better than. They are incompetent at best, and at times, bent AF.

Differentforgirls · 03/06/2026 18:29

WearyAuldWumman · 03/06/2026 15:45

Many of us left the SNP precisely because we were angry at what we were seeing (or not seeing, it turns out).

For “many”, read a few, who all joined Alba, which is now defunct with outstanding allegations about their finances which are currently being investigated by Police Scotland. All this without even a single councillor being elected. You could call it the party “for the few”.

Plus, no harm to you, but that scoring out English reminds me of the early forums about 25 years ago when people thought it was clever. Can’t believe it still exists tbh. Cringy.

What are you on about? By "not from you though" do you mean I didn't personally donate. No I didn't.

But do you not understand what "public money" is? It's money distributed by central and local government from taxes. I pay tax.

As for the shit show that is the SNP Government, that is everyone's problem.

Well…let’s just see…as more emerges I’d put money on this not being the case.
