Scottish Elections who do you think will take the majority of Seats?

Fundays12 · 12/04/2026 11:15

As a Scot I genuinely have no idea who to vote for.

I dont trust the SNP and find John Swinney completely incompetent. I wouldnt trust him to run my household budget let alone the countries so he is out for me. I cant stand labour, the tories well are not my cup of tea, lib dems and green would never get my vote.

However i dont seem to be alone in having no idea who to vote for which leaves me wondering who will take the majority of seats across Scotland. What do others think will happen?

Reform will probably get a few in from the list vote, to my immense disappointment. I never supported the SNP, but 5,10,15 years ago their dominance made being racist unacceptable and I’m sad the Scottish people have turned on that.

Well, I was called a "fucking foreign cunt" by one of them during the Indy Ref campaign so I'm not convinced that they are all such lovely welcoming people as some seem to think. He was xenophobic rather than racist but still, not great.

My child got pelters for being English then too, it was awful

weegielass · 20/04/2026 17:19

Not that I'd vote for either, but if they were my only two choices, I'd vote reform before I voted SNP.

PurpleThistle7 · 20/04/2026 18:08

Am still bewildered by my options. All terrible.

boobashka · 20/04/2026 18:13

I've voted how i advised my DD (a new voter). Decide on the 1 or 2 most important issues for you and vote accordingly. My 2 issues are pro-UK and pro women so I've voted both votes Conservative (SNP and Tory are neck and neck in my seat so I don't need to vote tactically here).

All of us did too. I had no idea there were so many ignorant arseholes in this country. The kids were born in Scotland, my partner is English and I’m Irish.

RaraRachael · 20/04/2026 18:45

We didn't dare admit we were NO voters as you got called a disgrace to your country, a traitor etc by the YES idiots.

A shop near us was threatened with firebombing and the owner received death threats because she was visited by Ruth Davidson.

Strangely I never heard any incidents of YES voters being threatened by NOs.

That is strange. There was plenty of it from morons of both sides of the argument.

The whole ‘both sides’ argument is laughable. It was the knuckle dragging bravehearts which were the aggressors!

boobashka · 21/04/2026 12:51

Definitely fewer SNP signs/posters around where I live than in previous elections....

museumum · 21/04/2026 13:00

I think I'm going to have to vote Labour, not because I think they can win but because I don't want reform as the main opposition party, and my local labour MSP is decent on local issues.

I am so fed up with the SNP, they are stale and stagnating, and even if you liked them previously, they have been in power far too long and have no new ideas and a terrible track record. BUT, I can't see how we can get rid of them without settling the independence question. We're just stuck.

Arrearing50 · 21/04/2026 13:04

It does look like we’re stuck aren’t we / it’s not great for the snp to win constituencies where 70 percent plus didn’t vote for them. My seat,
they’re projected to win on 26 percent…now they’ll get a majority most likely, but it doesn’t look like ideal conditions for another indyref to me, they could well lose it quite handily.

Fundays12 · 22/04/2026 13:03

Reading everyone's comments and literature coming throigh the door. All the main parties just dont seem to be really gauging the mood of voters and what matters to them. I know I wont vote SNP, Green party or Labour not much choice left then

It’s very depressing to try and vote the least bad choice. I won’t vote snp or greens, definitely no reform. My local vote will go to the person most likely to keep snp out and my list vote is undecided. Maybe I should look at the independents and see if any of them stand a chance.

YellingAway · 22/04/2026 19:05

I am likewise so disenchanted with the whole election and it appears that I’m not the only one. I really have no idea who to vote for as they all seem to be as bad as each other.

Helpmaboa · 22/04/2026 20:37

I’m thinking I just won’t vote

My thoughts exactly.

It's worth understanding how the list vote works - I didn't know about the weighting system which means that a party with fewer constituency MSPs gets more weighting on their list votes. So a party which is unlikely to get a lot of constituency MSPs benefits more your list vote. Personally I think the conservatives have been a better opposition in parliament than Labour so they get my list vote.

Freeme31 · 22/04/2026 22:05

@oldjohnwhich “specific” Westminster rules are you referring too ?

Erin1975 · 23/04/2026 13:52

So today we got a letter from Labour in the post.

Paragraph 1 lists several failings of the SNP, most of which are UK issues which the Scottish Parliament can’t do anything about.

Paragraph 2 “SNP bad”.

Paragraph 3 does actually have some policy. They’ll “fix the NHS”, provide 9000 apprenticeships, and spend £350m “fixing potholes” and “putting police back where they’re needed”.

Paragraph four: SNP bad.

Paragraph five: SNP bad

Paragraph six: yup, SNP bad.

Then the PS - “only Labour can stop Reform”.

No wonder people are switching off when the whole campaign is so negative. How about giving us some policy ideas they think will make things better rather than just criticising the others.

BBC Question Time. Mairi McAllan getting her arse handed to her was quite entertaining. She got no claps all night. One brave fool in the audience suggesting we move away from oil and gas. Not sure she will have made it out of the Aberdeen studio alive.

For goodness sake. This is just bribery now. We have a failing education system, an increase in violence, a huge housing crisis, poverty and this is his answer. The man is a walking liability.

Their vote buying bribery is getting ridiculous.

I can't remember a time in my 45 years of voting when he choices were so bleak.

Still waiting for our iPads and bikes 🤷🏼‍♀️

the irony too, with cultural establishments being forced to shut all over the place
