Scottish Elections who do you think will take the majority of Seats?

Fundays12 · 12/04/2026 11:15

As a Scot I genuinely have no idea who to vote for.

I dont trust the SNP and find John Swinney completely incompetent. I wouldnt trust him to run my household budget let alone the countries so he is out for me. I cant stand labour, the tories well are not my cup of tea, lib dems and green would never get my vote.

However i dont seem to be alone in having no idea who to vote for which leaves me wondering who will take the majority of seats across Scotland. What do others think will happen?

Lots of cultural events are already massively discounted for young people (and I'm all for that). dd just booked three classical concerts at Usher Hall (one of them almost booked out because Benedetti is the soloist) for £6 pounds each + a booking fee.
Not that these cheap tickets help kids away from the central belt.

ScoStud · 24/04/2026 08:22

How about bribing everyone one on the 2 year waiting list with a “free” hip replacement?

It’s a shame that the book festival now takes place entirely after the schools go back. But yes - loads of opportunity for great cultural events in edinburgh and Glasgow already.

I personally cannot see how I can vote for a woman who thinks children don’t need to know how to read. The Labour Party candidate fills me with despair. It’s all terribly depressing. Might let my 13 year old choose - she’ll have to next time around anyway.

RaraRachael · 24/04/2026 10:43

Don't know where they're going to find all these cultural establishments where I live.

As with the "Use public transport" stuff all fine if you live in the Central Belt

Just remember that this is the consequence of one of teh SNP's flagship policies. Men pretending to be women and then being accommodated in women's units in prisons, where they sexually assault other inmates.

This is exactly why as a woman I will never vote for them.

Also I am very uncomfortable with John Swinneys "migrants are welcome to come to Scotland" stance whilst admitting we have the biggest housing crisis Scotland has ever seen. I cannot get my head around our First Minister inviting migrants into our country whilst knowing there is not enough homes for Scottish people to live in and that we have large homeless problem already.

I didn't know it's during the school holidays now. dd went with her Higher English class, that must be five years now.
It's depressing, isn't it, that someone can be so utterly lacking in ambition for Scottish kids. She's standing for the Greens, not Labour unless I'm mistaken.

This is true. Glasgow cannot cope with the influx of immigrants by the council’s own metrics

I have been reading about the situation in Glasgow. Its appalling and every council in Scotland is heading the same way if John Swinney carries on inviting migrants into Scotland whom he knows we cannot house.

We also have thousands of young people leaving uni who can't get jobs.

Every time I open the news pages another business is shutting.

RaraRachael · 25/04/2026 07:48

Scotland is a very depressing place to live atm.

I hate the phrase "least worst" but that's the option I'm trying to find, but not succeeding.

I don't think I can stomach another bloody Indyref.

Me neither. It was a "once in a lifetime vote" and it was a no vote. The SNP need to stop going on about it and focus on the here and now.

Yes, and realise people aren’t voting for them for independence rather through despair with the alternatives

Everything is such a shambles now: roads, education, taxation, healthcare, homelessness. Yet they stay in power

im contemplating moving away for my retirement tbh

stargirl1701 · 25/04/2026 08:58

I’ve spoiled my ballot the last twice. This time I’m voting tactically to keep Reform out. SNP in my constituency (sigh) and either Labour or Lib Dem for the list. They are ALL bloody awful though.

They dont seem to be able to recognise that a vote for SNP is not always a vote from someone who wants independence. Its 2 separate things. I despair at the state of Scotland now.

That’s exactly the miscalculation though isn’t it, snp hoping to parlay the people sick of them into voting for Indy…which will ensure they don’t spend long out of power as they’ll be the oven ready deal chickens like Boris…’we can make this work’ etc etc.

weegielass · 25/04/2026 14:52

as a disabled person I'm very angry with labour for cutting disability benefits, fucking the employment market, cutting access to work which is meant to help us actually work and the stress is pretty bad atm
but tbf, my local mp has been really good at arguing the above.
also DC is a trainee teacher but there are more teachers than there are jobs available for them and the ASN situation is out of control and needs support.
in my constituency, as I said, its labour v snp so its going to have to be labour
don't know if I'll be able to stay up to watch the results come in or if I'll give up and go to bed, anyone know when first results tend to come through?

In Scotland there is no overnight vote count. It’s done the next day

Is anyone else voting Restore? I was reading their policies this morning and I have to say they sound so very sensible. They also haven't sugar coated it. They have acknowledged there is likely to be some unrest as the changes are made and how they will cope.
Like almost everything they say. There is too many things to mention so I will just attach their policies here. A few that I like though are police to have stronger powers to deal with criminals, a chance to bring back the death penalty with voting for worst offenders, apprenticeships for some youngsters at 14 because lets be honest they are not all academic. Changing benefits so people get food stamps rather than cash to ensure it is spent on food. They are going to make it a double lock rather than triple lock which seems fair on state pensions.

They just seem to be trying to bring some common sense policies in for youngsters and the elderly and are very much on the side of rewarding the worker, rather than the workshy. At the same time they will help genuine vunerable but stop the scroungers ie by food stamps rather than cash for food.

I was going to vote reform but I think these guys actually sound better.

They are also going to keep the NHS but address it so only UK citizens can use it etc

Do I think they will get the majority of votes - no I don't. However it's a start.

What do you all think. Is it just me or do they sound so sensible that it's a no brainer?

I haven't read each and every line in detail so I'll be doing that over the next few days but honestly why would you not vote for them (assuming you work for a living and are law abiding etc)

They seem to be getting cast as being 'far right' but are they really. To me their policies are just very traditional 'british' policies to take us back to a more 'british' way of life. I definately wouldn't call them far right. (I'm white, female, uni educated, middle age)

InconsequentialFerret · 26/04/2026 16:10

Part of the reason the death penalty was abolished was because juries weren't keen on finding people guilty, so they'd return not guilty verdicts, and offenders were getting off.

Call it a sensible policy if you like, but I doubt you'd get many juries, or even judges, who would want to bring in guilty verdicts and be complicit in the death of someone else.
